The Broccoli With Garlic Sauce
Steve A.

Basic Chinese place in Steger that's about par for the course. China Garden is a little place most people get carryout from. It doesn't get any better than here. For certain it's nothing that great but it's also not that bad. The worst thing is they often run out of things. After placing an order they said they were out of tofu so we had to change it. It would have been nice to know that before ordering. The item we were going to get was the Buddha's Delight, which was mixed vegetables and tofu. Couldn't get it without tofu, because that was the best part. Instead we got the Broccoli With Garlic Sauce. This item was a very basic thing. It's about $8 at lunch. That's when you have to go, because this isn't worth the dinner prices. Get here at lunch. It's cheaper prices. The other thing is have a backup order in mind because they run out of things like tofu or whatever.

General Tao chicken

General Tao chicken taste like orange chicken with sweet baby rays bbq sauce the worse. $40 and the main dish was trash I wish I could post a picture

This is the 2nd time I noticed a "Rounding" charge on my receipt. So, I just called and the lady said that the computer is not working properly, and apologized. I then told her that this was the second time this has happened, and she apologized again and advised me to let her know the next time I ordered food. You'll be wise to check your receipt before leaving the restaurant.

I still stand by what I said in my earlier review about this place. This is one of my favorite Chinese places in the area. They are always consistent with what I get and quick about it too. An open kitchen is pretty cool too, that way you can see what they are doing. Earlier in the afternoon I went ahead and got their shrimp fried rice, beef chop suey (first time actually trying it!), BBQ pork appetizer, jumbo shrimp lo mein w/ Xtra shrimp. I want to say everything was delicious except for the beef chop suey. When I order out, I tend to try out foods I've never had before first. I usually stray away from foods that most everyone knows about, i.e chop suey. But I decided to add it to my order out list. One thing I noticed right away was that it was way too salty for me and there's not enough texture. All it was was just indiscernible slop, with the exception of a few sliced, crunchy carrots thrown in there. Nope. This one gets the cut big time. But in no way was it a deal breaker. The jumbo shrimp lo mein w/extra shrimp is my absolute favorite. I just love it. The noodles are not too drenched in sauce and the extra shrimp is a must have when ordering out this dish. The fleshy shrimp in between one's teeth really does wonders to the senses, let me tell you. You can never have too much shrimp. The shrimp fried rice was good. Just simply your standard fried rice fare in cheap Chinese takeout. The BBQ pork appetizer was very good. It was a slightly sweet and succulent tender pork. Wasn't tough to chew at all. Again, they are easy on the sauce; so you can actually taste and enjoy your food without worrying about the pool of sauce drowning your food. This one gets my vote. This may be a hole in the wall joint but never let looks fool you. My only wish is that they deliver.

We go to Suns quite often. The food is great!!! We love the peking fried rice the chicken wings and…read morethe egg foo young. The only thing is when eating in the room gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Also, the atmosphere needs improving. But GREAT FOOD!!! I just wanted to add this to my original comment about suns. Last night I had the worst experience there. We did a call in order. After we picked up the order we drove home and realized the order was wrong. This is the second time we got the wrong order. So I called them and was expecting, a apology...well I got just the opposite. The lady was very rude and tried to tell me I ordered the wrong thing. Well, I was just going to settle for the food we did not want but I decided to take it back for either the correct food or a refund. When I walked threw the doors she started to explain to me loudly in front of customers how I made a mistake, I told her I was charged for what I asked for but this is not my order. She still continued...She was very rude and made me feel terrible. So after I tried to be nice I told her that they have a communication problem when they are taking orders over the phone. I stood there and watched them make the correct order for me. She was up front taking money then went back to fix food without washing her hands or putting on gloves. If this is the way they treat customers...I will NEVER EVER GO BACK TO SUN'S!!!!!

The young man who answers the phone is consistently rude and unprofessional. On multiple occasions, he has hung up before confirming my order or even allowing the conversation to finish properly. His tone and overall disposition toward customers come across as dismissive and unpleasant every time I call. I understand restaurants get busy, and I always try to give grace, but repeated disrespectful interactions make customers not want to spend their money there. Good food should come with basic professionalism and courtesy. I truly hope management addresses this because the restaurant has potential, but customer service matters just as much as the food.

Hong's Chop Suey - Almond Cookies

Hong's Chop Suey

Date: October 29, 2025 at 2 PM…read more TL;DR: Good food, kind staff, but a few mix-ups along the way. The shrimp fried rice and broccoli in oyster sauce were delicious, and the almond cookies were a nice surprise. However, the cashew shrimp missed the mark with literally, no cashews; and the automatic 10% gratuity caught me off guard. Still, I'd go back for the fried rice and broccoli, just with a bit more attention to detail next time. Food: 4/5 The food overall was great, though not quite what I expected. The shrimp fried rice was made extra spicy with chili oil, a flavorful twist I didn't see coming but really enjoyed. The broccoli in oyster sauce was fresh, aromatic, and perfectly cooked. The almond cookies and fortune were a sweet highlight. However, the cashew shrimp was a miss. There were no cashews at all, and the dish itself wasn't prepared in the style I've had before. Because of that, I wouldn't order it again, but I'd absolutely come back for the fried rice and broccoli. Customer Service: 3/5 The staff was kind and polite over the phone when I placed my order and answered all my questions clearly. Pickup was quick and easy, which I appreciated. However, when I got home and realized the cashews were missing, I had to call back. They apologized but didn't offer a solution beyond suggesting I still try the dish. While they were friendly, it would've been nice to see a bit more accountability or an offer to make it right. Ambiance: 3/5 This is a classic takeout spot: simple, straightforward, and designed for efficiency rather than atmosphere. There's nothing fancy about it, but they're quick with orders, especially if you call ahead. For what it is, it serves its purpose well. Special Note: After checking my receipt, I noticed an automatic 10% gratuity was already added to my total which was something I didn't realize until after I had also tipped another 10% at pickup. So I ended up tipping 20%, which isn't typical for takeout. Just a heads-up for anyone ordering, double-check your receipt before adding an extra tip. Also, there were no utensils included in the bag, so make sure you grab some if you need them. Overall: Hong's Chop Suey has solid food, kind people, and quick service, just a few small misses that, with some extra care, could easily be improved. I'd return for the fried rice and broccoli any day, and hopefully next time, the cashew shrimp comes with, well... cashews.
