First off, I want to say that the previous reviews are a very accurate mixed back of what this places is like. I guess I'm here leaving a review to throw in my two cents.
I've had so many different places and have developed a sense of specificity in my newer ventures to trying new ones. So 1 thing I do is try to find out if they have potato chicken, because it's rare and it's my favorite entree. The 2nd thing I do is basically read all the reviews and try to see if it's worth my time. This place did not pass the first test. There is no potato chicken, BUT there are several options. What convinced me was reading the reviews and seeing the loyalty to this spot and the raves about their orange chicken. So here's my first lil rant. Orange chicken: you would think it's pretty obvious how to rate it thinking there are only two components that really matter; the orange flavor, and the chicken within. WRONG! There is a third component that some forget and it seems that Chinese Express gives a damn about. It's the crispy and crunchy of the breading not listed in the name! WHALE, some might like some soft chicken and others might like crispy. This place is for crispy enjoyers. The chicken is very crispy and fresh and it adds an additional separation to the mix. Now to the other two components. The orange flavor vs the chicken: I think this orange chicken is more chickeny than orangey. It's not as sweet as other places, but closer to like Panda Express, but saltier. The flavor of the salty chicken powers past any real hint of orange. It was not ideal for me. The good thing is there's other options that I would be willing to replace it with. Overall during my visit there I also was interested in eating here because it's close to my job. Due to that, I feel like I'd return for the convenience. That was my feel for the majority of my thought while ordering the food, but then I saw the chow fun! And I got half and half so I didn't have room to get it, but it looked so good, I had to get back out of my car and take the risk and order a small side of it while rewaiting in the line. I was that curious! Well, I am here to tell you it was totally worth it. I think after eating that side of chow fun I will most likely return for that chow fun alone. It was a great snack and I can see myself eating a larger order solo and really enjoying it. Lastly, I read of the stinginess of the employees giving out hot sauce so I decided to say yes when they asked if I wanted some. They did put only one. BUT I ASKED FOR MORE! And they gave me plenty with no hesitation! 2nd rant: stop being a lil baby and just ask for more, they will give it to you. It's really not the end of the world.
Also yeah, it was kinda the watered down sriracha or off brand or whatever so that kinda sucked. But like idk why people complain about that. You don't pay for it! We already kinda Americanized Chinese cuisine which technically is a crime already of Americans, I think we can stop trying to alter their cuisine like we know what Chinese food should really taste like. If they wanna give you your spicy watery ketchup whatever way FOR FREE, stop complaining. Maybe buy a bottle at home and keep it for yourself for these situations. Stop acting like you know what Chinese food should taste like if you're not Chinese
OKAY. I think my rants are over and I covered the minor problems I might have had. Lastly, my overall thoughts and reminders of pros listed in other reviews: YES, they give a more than generous amount of food. If you're like me and you like having leftovers, and you don't go to panda because they are so stingy you will love this. It's a lot. Secondly, I noticed the entrees with veggies all looked delicious. They have a variety of veggies per entree, which I appreciate. It's not just a meat and one veggie. My second entree was mushroom chicken and it has a great sauce that was consistent amongst the entree and each veggie added to the mix in an equal fashion. The chow mein was meh though, but the fried rice was ideal imo. I'd personally say to get chow fun instead. If I did that I'd probably get the same plate with the alteration. Also yes, it's cheap and greasy. I know some people like that! I don't mind it to the level they have it at. This is all positive, but I think I feel the same way as some other reviewers have expressed. There's pros and cons so I wouldn't like rave about this. I'd give it a solid 3, because it holds up amongst other great fast food Chinese places. I don't think I'd worry about recommending it to others. I don't think many would be disappointed. For the price you pay and the quality you get, it's pretty balanced. read more
