    Some volunteers working
    Alex J.

Great place to volunteer at. I went about 2 years ago and found I enjoyed the time I work there. They have volunteers come at 9-12 every Saturday & Wednesday. I go every chance I get. You also get to met the greatest people from people who work there to other volunteers. Their man produce that volunteers work on are food paks. They send out the food paks to places in the US and international locations. They have been named one of best (think #2) nonprofit organization on money and donation management. Currently they are working on expanding their warehouse to fit more donated food. Their biggest volunteer day is their annual toy-wrapping day, last year they had to go to another warehouse to fit all the people coming to work.

We've always supported this organization and for the first time were able to volunteer and pack food boxes.

Lots of dogs & cats available for adoption (ONLY $30!!! AND, they come already micro-chipped & spayed/neutered.) No admission or parking fees. We've been to a lot (check my "Dog Friendly Adventures" list) and for a spur-of-the-moment decision to attend, this was a really good experience for us & our little Ruxin. Venue's great at William S. Hart Park. Grassy & shady. Accessible restrooms. Parking wasn't a problem since we came early. Found a public lot 2 blocks away. Our Ruxin is apparently tired of his current dog food so we wanted to pick up some samples to see if he'd show interest in something new. Came home with all kinds of food & treats. The various vendors were great about explaining their products & letting us know where we can buy them locally or online. We pup-sit our son's Corgis often and these samples will be shared with them. One of them has a really fussy tummy & most of the samples are organic. Several veterinary offices also had booths there if you live locally & want to meet the staff. There was a shots clinics also which had a long line. Someone told us the various shots were low-cost or possibly free. There's also pet-themed art & crafts being sold. I bought some dog toys at very reasonable prices. We seriously considered adopting another JackChi, but Ruxin was being a weenie. He wasn't being nice to the other dog at all. Additional notes: Dogs must be well-behaved and on leash. Please bring poop bags. Small dogs should be carried or in a stroller. It got crowded very quickly. Our lil' guy got his tail stepped on, so the hubby carried him for the rest of our stay. There's donation boxes situated here and there. The donations help to keep this festival free for all of us. We had a great time and will definitely want to come back next year.

I was reading the notices and schedule posted on the outside window when Maurice held the front door open and invited me in. I got to speak with and be with a truly amazing, caring, " real", passionate and kindhearted lady, Judy Wolfe and I got her, I really got her purpose, her love, her drive and her genuine care. God Bless You Judy!! She shared with me how this center came about, their activities, their schedule, the set up and support and upcoming events. This Veteran Center provides avenues for counseling and support, legal and medical services, transportation, education, financial guidance, special services, media, employment and housing assistance and a " buddy" system. I mentioned that my wife is also an MSW and a social worker who did work at the VA assisting veterans. The Santa Clarita Veteran Services center is a non profit community service establishment located in a tiny shopping center( dry cleaner. print shop) on the south side of Lyons just past Orchard Village Rd heading towards Railroad Ave. Veterans Day is in about 9 weeks. It was an honor to serve my great country and an honor to serve and help any which way I can at the Santa Clarita Veteran Services Center!
