A great place to volunteer for those who are interested. I've been coming avidly for the past year. The location is open for those that would like to come alone or with a group or organization. Sign ups to volunteer can be found on their website. They are open every week on Wednesday's and Thursdays from 9-11am and Saturday's from 8-10am. Every week there are different opportunities given to participate in whether it involves bagging rice, beans or fruit or packing care packages which are sent to local churches or out to different countries for those in need. If you want to have the chance to help hungry children and learn about in-depth stories describing impoverished kids in different countries, you need to come here. And you can do this and get volunteer hours at the same time. I had an amazing experience learning about the terrible conditions of so many unprivileged kids across the world. It was truly heartbreaking to hear all of their interactive stories, and I felt so bad for how they were living. But it really inspired me to invite some of my friends to come and do the same thing so they can become more aware of the problem of hunger around the world too. For how great of a job they did to educate us and give us a chance to pack food for the hunger, I recommend that everyone comes to check this place out. Great place to volunteer at. I went about 2 years ago and found I enjoyed the time I work there. They have volunteers come at 9-12 every Saturday & Wednesday. I go every chance I get. You also get to met the greatest people from people who work there to other volunteers. Their man produce that volunteers work on are food paks. They send out the food paks to places in the US and international locations. They have been named one of best (think #2) nonprofit organization on money and donation management. Currently they are working on expanding their warehouse to fit more donated food. Their biggest volunteer day is their annual toy-wrapping day, last year they had to go to another warehouse to fit all the people coming to work. read more

A good organization helping families in need locally--from Baja California to many other communities on the West coast. They are also currently meeting the needs of victims of Hurricane Sandy on the east coast. They also are impacting the lives of families globally (Guatemala, Haiti, India, etc). They have a huge annual toy wrapping (1,500 folks helping out!), held in early December. If volunteering, it's important to sign up EARLY, as in early October. Do it online! Other ways to help out, every Wednesday and Saturday you can help out assembling care boxes with food and stuff. Their motto "Delivering Hope". It is a Christian organization, but you don't have to be a Christian to help out. It's still a worthy organization that is making a difference in the world, locally and globally. read more

This place was awesome! We had an amazing time! They are well organized and you truly feel like you are part of something big. The CHF is now on of my top places to volunteer. The leads are so courteous and take the time to explain the importance of every task, as small as it may seem, every task has a very important part in the entire system. We found that out in a very constructive way. If volunteering has ever crossed your mind and you just don't know where to start, I recommend you give them a quick call and check what volunteering opportunities they might have. Saturdays get filled up fast. This is a great place to meet new people, spend time with your family or friends, or in my case with my coworkers. If you're looking for an easy way to help others on a global level, volunteer at the Children's Hunger Fund! You're sure to get a few warm fuzzies for just a few hours of work. My friends and I decided to join the food pack assembly line on a Saturday morning, and within hours we (along with several other local volunteers) packed hundreds of boxes of food for those in need. It was a very tangible way to help others, without much commitment on our end. During our water and snack break, the lead staff member explained exactly how we were helping the organization on a larger level by showing us a video and letting us know where our particular boxes would be shipped. Since developing a relationship in person with CHF we feel the Lord leading us to serve and give here. In January we will begin supporting CHF monthly financially. What's so nice about CHF it is local and very hands on - we pack the food to be delivered and see where it goes. We actually see where the money is going. It's amazing. My son and I regularly spend time volunteering at this organization. They do wonderful work and have a constant stream of food and goods coming through. Volunteering here is easy. My son and I do a lot of community service and many of the places we work for are a bit disorganized. Sometimes it's hard to know where to go, the people who are organizing don't know what to do, and so on. But Children's Hunger Fund is like a well-oiled machine. You show up, they know what they're doing, they've planned out the day, and people get right to their job. No standing about wondering what to do. I did a lot of volunteer work here back in high school, and carried on the tradition to my sorority and brother fraternity in college, and every visit there has been great experience. The majority of the work there consists of putting together care packages, which usually contains food items, toiletries, and other useful items they receive from donations. It's refreshing to be around people of all ages from all walks of life who share a passion for helping out others. One of the best times to volunteer is for their annual holiday toy wrap. Children's Hunger Fund is a long-standing and trustworthy Christian charity. They mostly provide food paks, and also toiletries, some toys (toy wrap!), and similar items, which are delivered to needy families in the U.S. and other areas throughout the world. In addition to the "normal" way of donating, they have a rather neat catalog on their website that enables you to provide for something as small as cans of tuna to a live goat.
