Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theater and Academy has been in Huntsville since 1961! That's quite a while! Their shows are all family friendly, too which is an added bonus! A little over a year ago, in August 2025 Fantasy Playhouse moved to the historic Merrimack Mill district in Huntsville featuring a 278 seat accessible theatre, new classrooms, upgraded backstage facilities, and a lower floor with dedicated classrooms, a loading dock, a shop, and an office wing. The Merrimack facility was renovated and is a nearly 25,000 square foot facility. We saw matinee plays such as "A Christmas Carol." These days their plays are in the Von Braun Center Playhouse, although I don't recall where they were held when we were children. It may be been the VBC. Since the talent is primarily, if not completely, local and includes countless volunteers (one of my Sisters and her Husband design and construct sets for Fantasy), the plays are inexpensive, especially for children at matinee performances. For that class, babies under 24 months can come, play with non-toxic finger paints, toys and other activities. At the end of the class, parents leave with a very cute footprint art. It's a great and affordable way for babies and adults to socialize. Classes are $10, and 100% worth it. They also offer open play classes, which is open to any age. There is an option for a membership pass for this class. Artnasium also offers homeschool classes, monthly date night babysitting event and waaaaay more. The owner is very sweet and friendly, and I adore her daughters. To sum it up, The Artnasium is a really great way to get out of the house, and get kids and parents socialized. We were not called when these things happened during the day but he needed wipes and they called like telemarketers! The last straw was when I picked my child up and he was crying, when I took a good look at him, he had a black eye forming and his face was swelling! When I asked what happened, not 1 of the 3 teachers in the classroom could tell me what happened. I call ahead the next Saturday bc I don't want to drive 45 minutes and they repeatedly don't answer the phone. I take my chances and they are open!! Now to get my cup, but wait it has black on it tracing half a name and then another kids name is fully traces in black...I didn't use black paint! what an expensive waste of our families time and complete disappointment.

Each time I visit, my experience has been consistently positive. The staff at this branch are very friendly and overall the facility is clean and well-maintained without signs of overcrowding.

When they called me regarding the situation they stated they just noticed he had environmental allergies (he has multiple environmental allergies stated) but did not tell me he played in the grass, till I later asked them. I had to leave work early to pick him up, and he had a severe allergic reaction, as he practically went into anaphylactic shock. I had to miss work the very next day to take him to the doctor to make sure his organs were still functioning appropriately. I paid $100 for two days with no refund. I emailed the director of the holiday camps about this situation, where she has yet to reply acknowledging the situation.
