It was an easy little hike and the scenery was gorgeous. The lake surrounded by the mountains is incredibly peaceful and picturesque. You don't have to do a long hike to get beautiful views either, which makes this a great addition to the Königssee boat ride. Definitely recommend taking the boat all the way to Salet and making the walk over to Obersee. The views are worth it! Pet friendly: A great outdoor stop if you're traveling with a dog.

If you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of the Alpine cow. Amazing!

Our kids loved the swimming and water slides and the large grass area to play on. Wifey and I love that the kids are entertained, we can grab a bite to eat (washed down with a cold beer or radler), and we've enjoyed the water activities, too. I've even done the waterskiing a time or two. It was a bit choppier than the glass I get on Lake Havasu, but still lots of fun. There are bathrooms and changing stalls, too, so its easy to spend the whole day here.

We took the boat across the lake as part of our visit, which is such a great way to experience the scenery and get to the different stops around the lake. The whole area is peaceful and beautiful and was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Berchtesgaden. I would absolutely recommend making time for Königssee if you're visiting the area! Pet friendly: Dogs are allowed on the Königssee boats, although the boat operator has specific rules/fees, so check those before visiting.

The Boat rides leave from the tip of the Konigsee, and can be taken to One or Two spots for a different affordable price. Its a beautiful ride through the lake in the mountains. The entire tour is in German so if you don't speak the language you won't really know what's going on, but no need to as the ride is a reward in itself. Be sure to get to the Docking stations early so that you have time to head out to St. Bartholomew etc. and Hike around. There is also a hofbrau haus directly next to the church to have a nice meal while you wait to return to Berchtesgaden. It's a must do while in this beautiful area of Germany. Take the ride, and listen to the amazing echo's of the trumpets off the mountain side. Highly recommended, and well worth the price.

Moon Lake! This is one of the largest privately owned lakes…read morein all of Austria! This is such a beautiful place - an alpine lake out in the middle of the Alps. I didn't go in, but the water looks cold. Since it's owned privately, Nicolette Wächter owns it, she decided that it shall be open to the public, but off limits to people with motorized vessels. So this makes it a quiet mountain lake, where you gotta go slowly. I'm sure all the fish appreciate the quiet too! There's some excellent views of and around this lake. It makes me wanna yodel. There's some sort of legend behind this lake that involves people wading out in to the lake on horseback and almost drowning if it weren't for the moon. So since it's also somewhat shaped like a crescent moon, they named it Moon Lake. I don't think Moon River flows into Moon Lake. According to Wikipedia, this lake is also mentioned in a James Bond novel!

There is something special and fun about holiday/tourist towns that mostly have domestic tourists. If Tegernsee had a U.S. counterpart, it would be Lake Tahoe: Sure, folks come from all over the country and world to Lake Tahoe, but the majority come from all over California and Nevada. This is a town where people have second homes and spend the whole summer there -- that sort of thing. As an international visitor, I loved seeing Germans from all over the country on vacation and hanging out.
