I ran down the sidewalk on Little River Turnpike and made it to the bus stop just in time for the 11:00 scheduled stop. However, as I stood there panting in the sun like a rabid animal and the minutes ticked by, the bus had apparently already came and went. With an entire hour to spare, I convinced myself that I really needed some rotisserie chicken, as I could see the "Chicken Pollo" sign just across Annandale Rd. I'm always hesitant of walking into Latin cuisine places, because I don't speak Spanish well, and I have this feeling that the workers won't be able to take my order. It's a ridiculous notion, of course. I'm not in Peru, I'm in Annandale, VA, and of course these restaurateurs are deft enough business people to serve to non-Spanish speakers. So, I was very pleased when the woman at the counter adroitly took my order. A 1/4 chicken with fries and rice (that's right folks, two starches) and a Diet Coke. I sat in the dining room, and waited patiently for my meal. A diverse clientele was eating their lunches already, so I knew that was a good sign. A woman brought my meal it out to me on a real plate with metal silverware. This was a nice touch, because other Peruvian chicken places I've been to use plastic silverware and paper plates. Of course, besides being a waste as you have to throw them away, I would find myself struggling to tear meat from bone while the tines of the fork bent all helter skelter and the plate soaked up the grease, becoming stuck to the table. I usually just give up and eat the chicken with my hands, which I also did this time, once I got the majority of the meaty goodness off the bone. The chicken was crazy tender, and the spices on the outside were just right. The white and green sauces were standard (meaning, awesome), especially on the fries. I've eaten here several times and I thought it would be okay but last week I got stomach infection after eating here... The chicken I had wasn't cooked all the way through, when I got to my last bite of one piece their was still blood there so I stopped and threw it away. That night I woke up and vomited twice, and spent the next two days out of work. Today is day 6 since the day I had chicken and I am still having diarrhea. 1/2 Chicken w/ Yucca. Rice and Beans. Plaintains. Mix White Sauce and Green Sauce together. I'm happy...very happy. Place is an absolute dumphole. And despite any A/C they may have going in the dining area, it's sickeningly hot in the kitchen/counter area. 3.5 stars I visited Chicken Pollo on a Friday around 5 P.M. to pick up 2 whole chicken's for dinner. 1 Whole chicken w/out sides is $13.99. Parking here is pretty limited so I would not recommend coming at a peak hour, you probably would have to wait awhile for a parking spot to become available. At 5 P.M. the line was not too long and I was able to place my order pretty quickly. I believe I waited around 5 minutes for my order to come out. I don't usually eat Peruvian Chicken too often so I am amazed at how juicy the meat is. I usually eat Rotisserie chicken which is dry most of the time. Besides the juiciness the chicken is also very flavorful, dipping it in the sauces provided for you (green and yellow salsa) ensures a salivating experience. Having only ordered the chicken next time I want to try out their sides due to the variety and authenticity. Since I have only had Peruvian chicken at this one establishment I am not sure if this is the cream de la creme of pervuian chickens in NoVA. My girlfriend has had other places and she claims this place is the best she has had, however I want to be the judge of that. I've gone to this place several times over the past few years and have never really been amazed by them. However, last night will be the last time ever going there. 1. Customer Service - SUCKS 2. WAY Overpriced for mediocre chicken 3. Messed up my order So, my friends and I had a get together and I was to pick up 2 chickens with sides. First sign I should have listened to was the guy taking my order couldn't care less - but hey, it's 5pm... everyone wants to go home. When I arrive to pick up my food, the cashier rang me up. Of course we know we want extra sauces so I check with the cashier and ask her how many sauces come with the chicken. She said 2 yellow and 2 green for each whole chicken. UUUhhhhhmmmm.... WHAT?! If I order 1/4 chicken I get 1 yellow and 1 green. WHY would I only get 2 of each for a WHOLE chicken? Which I asked her. And she just gave me a blank look and said that's what comes with it. Each additional sauce is $.25 each. Fine... I just want to get to my friends. I order 5 of each... what a rip of $2.50! Then she gives me the total $38 and some change. WHAT?! My quick math tells me something is wrong and ask for the print out of the charges. 2 Chickens $33. I asked the cashier why is she charging me so much for the chicken. She said the price for each is $16.99. I said no, I checked the website before placing the order and even showed it to her. She said, "Oh really? Hmmm. Well that's not the right price." and continued on with the next customer. So now, I just got jipped $2.00 for each chicken? So I just spent $6.50 more! Now to put that in perspective - that's almost 1 hr pay for minimum wage workers, another chicken meal or 2 tanks of gas! I asked to speak to the owner. One of the guys said he's "over there" and pointed towards the closet door marked "office". However, when knocked no one opened. By this time, I'm done. No one gave a crap and just gave me a shoulder shrug. I leave but just don't think it's right. I call and ask who the owner is . The worker said Walter White. --- Ehhh.. Ok. Then I get the Assistant Manager which I believe is Gustavo. Nice enough and said he would have the owner call me. He's sorry that the customer service was so poor and that the website wasn't updated but he'll be sure to get the owner to call. It's been 17 hours and no one has bothered. To top is off - when I get to my friends - I don't have plantains but a side of french fries! =( Way to go Chicken Pollo. You officially suck. It's tough writing an accurate review after letting a week go by and then spending the weekend puking up things you don't remember eating. Note: If you are driving east on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, don't eat at the first rest stop when you enter Pennsylvania. You will more likely than not be bowing before the porcelain gods. Anyway, on to the review. The chicken here is ok. The main problem I have with it is the lack of flavor. The chicken didn't seem to be marinated long enough and there wasn't enough seepage of flavor into the rest of the chicken. Compared to the other chicken places on the Peruvian chicken circuit, this chicken is incredibly mild bordering on bland. The yucca was really good and tasted sweet. The crispiness didn't hold up on the drive home. The salad was not remarkable. The yellow sauce wasn't as flavorful as you get at other places, and seemed to be a little watered down. The green sauce had a nice kick to it. The place is basically a hole in the wall. Don't expect any frills. You stand in line, if you can find where it begins, you order, you wait. Done and done. This place is in the heart of Annandale, so I'd basically come back if I were too lazy to drive outside of Annandale. read more

If I had the option I would give this place 0 stars. This is the second time my order has been incorrect. This evening I placed an order for take out which was a total of $45. For a place that is reasonable in price this was a large order and and I should have been treated as a valued customer as I am spending a good amount of money. I pick up my order and when I get home I realize I am missing an order that is $11. I call back to request a refund as it was their mistake to not complete the order correctly. I politely ask for a refund and instead of being treated with respect I'm told it is my fault and I should have checked my order before leaving. I request a manager and I am told the manager is not there. After being told rudely that the reason my order is missing is because I didn't double check my bag I ask for the persons name on the phone, she refuses to give me her name. It is their responsibility to fully attend to their customers and after today I am very disappointed in how this place runs their business. Please see the picture of the receipt. I was missing the 'pancita' order. The person who checked me out was Karina.. I am inclined to believe that's who I spoke to on the phone but they refused to give me their name + the person on the phone said Karina had left for the day. I called the restaurant around 6:20ish if they helps you determine who I spoke to. I will be calling tomorrow as today my only option was to call the manager Monica per the person on the phone.If you eat/order from here please be sure to check your order even though we shouldn't have to. Right in Korea town Virginia this place has some really good Peruvian style rotisserie chicken. I love how juicy and tender the meat is cooked as well as their excellent seasoning. The yuka fries and sauce is also incredible and if you have room for more try their fried banana's (cooked with honey...I can't remember the name) This isn't a place where you have a waiter. So expect to order like you would at a Pop eyes then have a seat at a table and they will bring you your food. No waiter service unless you grab an employee for something. Peruvian chicken here has good taste. Your choice of rice or yuccas with your quarter, half or whole chicken. The secret is the green sauce they give you. I would assume its green habenero sauce. Don't try it if you don't have a knack for spicy sauce. I can't get enough of the green sauces at these Peruvian chicken places. The chicken can be a little dry at times. Price wise, its very cheap. Ordered a whole chicken for two with drinks came out to only $16. When you're at these Latin American places, you must have an Inca Cola, tastes just like bubble gum you had when you were little. (the other place just got more sides... way more sides...) Green spicy sauce (jalapeño?) is awesome for the white meat. Dark meat is just as good on its own. Cons Best to carry out since dinning in won't really help your dinning experience. Order / Take out counter is poorly design and sometimes is a mess, hope they will improve. The chicken is delicious, fries are good, and the rice is good. The only thing is the portions of the sides are kinda small for the price. I love this place, I come here at least once a week sometimes twice. The girl cashier is incredibly nice and friendly and it's an overall good environment. Besides a little bit of confusion on the sit-down vs. take-out process (whether to sit and wait for food to be brought to you at the table... or you standing and waiting for a # to be called...) and a menu that does NOT show the meal or "combos"... it was good! Food was similar to other Peruvian chicken places I've been to in MD. They give a lot of rice + beans together for their side item. Also, a helpful tip is that a "side salad" is already included as one of the two side choices when combo-ing it with the 1/4 or 1/2 chicken. Yucca tasted great! Nothing bad to say about the food! I was on my daily limousine drive, laughing at all the peasants with a champagne glass in each hand when I decided to check out chicken Pollo. It seemed like any other Peruvian chicken place when I stepped inside but the food surpassed my expectations. I ordered a chicken, fried pork, and the rice and beans, all of which were delicious. The best part was a few days later when I took the leftovers out of a diamond encrusted Tupperware to find that even when refrigerated for two days it was still as delicious as when it was fresh. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I used to enjoy the rest of the menu too but unfortunately last time I went I ordered "tallarin verde " pesto pasta and steak and I was really disappointed. Seeing the bad reviews I can understand why some people have had a poor experience here. I've had my fair share of them as well but we always come here for their lomo saltados and other popular dishes because the chef is amazing at making them. There have been times where I call to order for pickup and their phone is down or they're busy and the call doesn't go through, those have been my most frustrating days. But I do overall enjoy their food even if the staff here might not care much about customer service like other places. I do agree it is too pricey especially for their lomo saltados which is $15 almost $16 with tax. I do wish it were cheaper or else we'd come here everyday. I know another Peruvian place off Franconia that offers more food for that same price. But this is how they make their business. My advice for them, up the customer service and leave the phone available! Hopefully they get better at this. read more
