When deciding what to eat for lunch, my companion described Chicken Kitchen as "a rip-off Oporto type of place." Be as it may, Chicken Kitchen shines in its own right. OK, shines is probably a bit much, but we did eat there two days in a row*
* Both of those days featured brutal hangovers.
You know the kind of shop Chicken Kitchen is; there's one in every suburb, typically at a small-ish shopping centre or train station type area. Chicken Kitchen serves up chicken (duh) in its many forms, plus a wide range of Portugese-style burgers, wraps and buns. There are also ample supplies of hot chips, wedges and surprisingly delicious salads. If your hangover doesn't like grease, try the mushroom and pumpkin number.
The people working there are very nice, and the queue to order is quite quick. Regrettably, the wait for your stupid stressful buzzer thing to go off is not so quick. It's not too bad, but on busy beach days the wait can be slightly ridiculous. The food is kind of expensive for what it is; not actually expensive, but $11 for a generic burger, small chips and a soft drink verges on outrageous in my books. However, the premises are sparkling clean, the food is tasty and the staff pleasant. It always draws a crowd. read more
