I thought I must have gone mad because c'mon, I was in Madrid and this was only the third day! However, my stomach ruled over my head, so I went out searching for a good burger place. My search led me to Home Burger Bar. This is a chain, and this joint is located on a quiet little street off of the Gran Via and was very easy to find. I walked in and immediately felt relaxed because there wasn't the crazy tapas bar crowd with loud noises and people pushing you around the bar trying to order some food. They had a nice ambiance with jazz music on (I love jazz music). The servers were very attentive, even a little curious, perhaps because I was the lone non-Spaniard in the entire restaurant. They have menu both in English and Spanish. I tried one of the gourmet burgers with blue cheese, pear, and nuts. They turned out delicious. The meat was cooked just right, and the condiment pairings were yummy. I even loved the fries. The entire meal hit the spot and relieved my burger craving for the rest of the trip. I know it's unusual for me to review an American restaurant in another country because I try not to eat American food when I travel, but I definitely recommend Home Burger Bar if your stomach becomes homesick when you are in Madrid.

A good hunk of delicately cooked meat, and all the fixings on the burger were fine. The slaw wasn't as creamy as I like it, and the fries were a bit blah, but not greasy. The paper-bag menus are really cute and fit the place's eco-orientation well. All in all it is, as advertised, a good place to go if you're in the mood for an American burger. Came across this place on Yelp and saw it had good reviews so I wanted to check it out for myself. Just the sight of people's pictures of the burgers made me really hungry and it was practically the only thing on my mind all day. Decided to make it a night out, and reserved a table relatively late into the evening. Finding the place was more than alright. It's hardly hard to miss. In the middle of Spain something America styled sticks out like a saw thumb. As I don't speak much Spain, I was worried that communicating was going to be a little tough but turned out to be more than alright. There was a tone of options on the menu to choose from but had to stick with what I saw on the website which was Pulled Pork Burger, Chicken Stripes and Chips with bacon on. When the food came I was pretty overwhelmed if I'm honest. I got my money's worth. I thought I'd get three or four Chicken Stripes but turns out it was a basket. The burger was really big and chock full as well. It was really yummy and didn't even touch the sides. I couldn't manage it all so some of it had to be taken back in a bag which I'll eat at home.
