READ this Review in FULL. Respectfully, thank you. Violations of patients civil rights; disregard ADA reasonable accommodation requests. If your loved one is here, the nursing staff WILL put their physical health at risk, waiving away all physical symptoms and depicting them entirely as mental illness. The only good staff there are Andrea, and the Patient Advocate, Albert. Some of the doctors and social workers are good, but find a different facility entirely. Especially if you have any Autism Spectrum Disorders, they are NOT educated in patients care with autism conditions. They will violate your civil rights if you are not informed about your needs and legally protected rights. The rest of the staff are nearly mediocre to outright DANGEROUS to patient's health. Especially Alex who communicated to staff that a Reasonable Accommodation request and High Blood Pressure should be deemed Violence and Non compliance. Before the automatic response from CBH is posted with platitudes of how this isn't commiserate with their standard of care and tells me to contact wecare@chicagobh.com as a sacrine acknowledgement for my concerns, know too that I intend to file grievances with the State and the Joint Commission for the sheer level of disregard for patients rights and the lack of corrective actions demonstrated by the repeated complaints listed on this Google review site. CBH is very obviously NOT taking these and others concerns seriously. UPDATE: I have submitted a complaint to wecare@chicagobh.com. If you are at all committed to making changes you will institute the suggestions I placed in that email which include providing ALL further patients with a copy of the ADA and Rehabilitation Act and posting this on ALL inpatient FLOORS so everyone is well aware of their legally protected rights. And your staff doesn't disregard Verbal reasonable accommodation requests in violation of the ADA. Especially considering that you refuse patients pens and pencils. Probably so they cannot express themselves in a professional manner that is acknowledged by your facility and you can dismiss their Verbal self advocacy efforts. Also, they DISCHARGE you with OTHER patients records in violation of HIPAA.. yeah, you just earned my state department complaint. Update 2: The nurses will chart other patients medical information, names, and patient histories in your medical chart leading to improper diagnostic accuracy and administration of dangerous medical treatments. After spending 6 days in their behavioral health facility, I came out feeling better only because I was able to get sober. Nursing staff was great but Dr Chimata was able to diagnose my new ADHD diagnosis simply by looking at me haha ! She's a tiny ego maniac who loves to hear herself speak and over prescribe medicine ! Came in on Tuesday and by Friday was on 7 meds! 2 for blood pressure and 5 for my brain, felt like a zombie all day friday- sunday. In a more perfect world any behavior health facility would require at least 30 minutes of cardio upon waking. All you can do is pace up and down the 40 yard hallway or sit in the day room ! They serve unhealthy fattening/ sodium filled meals and offer junk food for snacks. No wonder this country has such an obesity and mental health crisis!! read more

Zero stars is the appropriate rating. There is gross incompetence, lack of concern for patients and overcrowding. My wife's condition became much worse after being admitted - stopped eating and drinking and refused to take her meds. Even though she could walk to the bathroom, she was given a catheter. When transferred to a good hospital, it was hard to tell what was done because the notes from CBH were so minimal. My wife was so out of it that she was clearly drugged. The social worker wasn't reachable until I said I would complain to the state. The voice mailbox for the patient advocate was always full. My wife said that there were more beds than capacity allowed and that she wasn't given the CPAP machine that I provided. Visiting was only allowed one hour per week and only in the cafeteria to hide the deplorable conditions. Avoid this hospital at all cost. The state needs to close it. read more

She begged me every night to get her out. She has health problems and can't eat everything. They were supposed to have her on her diet but gave her plate away every night. She lost a lot of weight and came out very unhealthy. She said the floor she stayed on was filthy and her room had bed bugs. They will not help your loved one. The quality of care was poor. The type of care seriously lacking. I told them do not just let her out because she had no where to go and she would be homeless. They assured me she would have a social worker help her find a place. I felt our interaction with Dr. Chimata looked beyond the hospital stay and was invaluable in recommending a treatment plan for the days following. It was reassuring to talk to her. As with everyone else, my experience was so negative I was tempted to sue, as my sister, who is a lawyer, said that there were human rights violations. However, because I am Christian - I did not - primarily because I was told there is already a lawyer who entirely subsists off of suing the facility, with no resultant change, and as the enterprise operates so poorly because the staff are already underpaid and living in spiritual and physical poverty themselves. Empty cups cannot fill. That said, I wanted to provide some encouragement for those who are trapped there and their families, the same information I was only aware of because my sister is a lawyer. First and foremost - drugs of every imaginable type will be nearly forced upon you 24/7 in a very intimidating way (extreme drugs like antipsychotics for poor night's sleep, etc.) It is very important to know that since your stay is technically voluntary, you are under no legal obligation to take the drugs, so, politely, simply refuse. You are also not under a legal obligation to participate in the liberal classes or any other aspect, and it might be conducive to your mental health to just try to rest in your room and wait for the experience to end. From what I noticed, most people did get out after 5-10 business days, so as unbearable as the experience is, try to remind yourself that their primary motive is to collect on insurance / self interest, and try not to catastrophize. Forgive their deficit of empathy and remember that their poor treatment of you is not a reflection of your worth, but of their distance from God. Where they dishonor, you can honor Him. There's a Bible at the counter and ear plugs; these tools can help protect sanity. What helped me most is my family coming to the once a week visitation, and helping affirm that "you're not crazy, they're crazy". This was very good to hear from my Harvard doctor sister. This sort of validation is absolutely vital for a person being basically dehumanized and criminalized on a daily basis, because the entire staff is geared to make the person feel insane. Also try to alleviate the situation for your family member on the calls and speak loudly because the phones are intentionally kept at a sub-human volume. They will lie about discharge dates and behave with a culture of ingrained dishonesty, so its important to help your friend remain honest and hopeful when it seems like the entire microcosm of that world operates differently. Keep the encouragement up, and also make sure to hug the person trapped in there because they most likely have no physical contact or positive interactions going on in there, and they might be living for this next interaction with you. Make sure to validate the victim of the facility by helping them to understand that they did not deserve to be treated in the manner they are being treated, and that God will get them out. That's what was most helpful for me. As far as improving the actual experience in the place, I am not really sure what would help from a legal or financial aspect. I got a meeting with the medical director who actually seemed like a person of integrity, which was astonishing. He informed me that the place is so financially strapped and afraid of legal liabilities that they cannot create basic human rights like outdoor time, adequate exercise, or even prevent the precautionary overprescribing of medication. For this, they blame the laws pertaining to mental health - when everything is potentially a legal liability, even, I guess, providing normal phones (because these could be ripped off the walls and people could hurt others with them), then what is ultimately created is a living chaos for those least likely to be able to defend themselves. This situation is why they cannot effectively coordinate social workers to discharge people in a timely manner, because the social workers cannot deal with the volume of patients to ensure zero liability upon discharge. Given these realities I was sad to admit that probably, if I had zero budget to work with and constant lawsuits, I probably would not be able to create anything better than the horribly chaotic experience I endured. Jesus strengthened me to endure even this, but, I do pity those who are already on their last leg (70% of the residents I was told were shipped up here from our poorest communities) - who do not have a solid knowledge of God's power, and who are basically going into the worst possible environment without any spiritual support whatsoever. I do feel that collectively, especially for the poor, we bear the responsibility. I invite you to stand in the gap with me in prayer for these victims. I believe institutions such as this should be shut down, and replaced with Christian care facilities. I don't think anyone benefits from pharmaceuticals, incarceration, and corresponding dehumanization, along with hefty medical bills. What is instead need is investment, love, care, and prayer. Horribly run state mental institution, more like an insane asylum from the 1920s. Was forcibly taken there when I went to Lutheran General for extreme insomnia. they violated by body by an stripping m nakede and a cavity search (one of the most humiliating moments of my life! and when I would not sign the voluntary forms, they drugged me and forced me to sign them. I woke up two day later and the only thing they were interested in is "upgrading" me to their vile 30 days womens program because I had "wonderful" insurance" before they even evaluated me !!. They should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people in such a vulnerable state. Please if you are seeking help for you or someone you love, be VERY cautious of this place, zero healing qualities about it, bar a few good nurses and therapist I was forced to interact with. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. i was here in 2023-2024 and as an adult. i was freshly 18 which meant i had to go to an adult unit. i was on the female adult unit and there were a lot of fighting and racism. i was the only asian and apparently the other patients had a problem with that. they would harass me and threaten me. the staff didn't defend or quiet the other patients. i felt isolated and scared. there is a very large age range on the unit from 18-70. i was 18 being sexually commented on by older patients. the groups were unhelpful and basically a joke. the staff wouldn't intervene when patients were threatening each other or me. they only cared when physical alterations happened. the room are 2 people and i have trauma with roommates. they forced me into a room with another person that was twice my age. they do not accommodate to people with trauma or bad past experiences. they are not well trained with deescalation and calming people down. they yell at patients and do not provide a healthy healing environment. there were a lot of people with pending charges and criminal backgrounds there as patients. most were aggressive or threatening to others. there is no separation between severity of patients. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I can't urge you enough to find another facility if you or a loved one is suffering from a mental health issue. My husband was transferred from our local hospital (who sadly had no beds to keep him in their inpatient program) I saw him off from the local ER, and sent a bag of clothing (3 pairs of pants, 3 sweatshirts, 3 shirts, 3 underwear, 3 socks, one pair of slippers - all were string-free, no hoodies) Upon pickup, only half of his belongings were given back. If that was the worst of our problems, I wouldn't even care. Upon his arrival, his meds were drastically altered with no explanation or medication management plan. He suffered greatly from this gross neglect, and lost nearly 15 pounds in his 10-day stay (he went in at about 155#) On our first visit, he came to he lunch room with a black eye, that along with the drastic weight loss was frightening. He left there far worse than when he arrived. They continued to alter his meds for no reason, and the social workers had no clue what the nurses or doctors were doing. Zero communication between staff. I URGE YOU TO FIND ANOTHER FACILITY! My husband ended up at Glenn Oaks, and it made a WORLD of difference. It's small and difficult to get in, but it's the only thing that saved my husband and our family. read more

This place is like a prison and don't know what they're doing with medicine even when shown a list of the medication how much is taken and when it's taken, they overdosed me on a serious seizure medication, when I got home my grandmother said I looked worse than when I went in. I am sorry after reading some of the reviews that other patients had terrible experiences. I received excellent mental health care during a crisis. For 30 years I was drugged by other doctors and hospitals and told me I had Bipolar and ADHD. The care team at CBH observed me for 10 days and came to the conclusion I don't have Bipolar. I am mildly autistic. They stopped the multiple medications I was prescribed for Bipolar including mood stabilizers, tranquilizers, and antipsychotics. Their new treatment protocol included an antidepressent for Anxiety and a nonstimulant ADHD/ Autism medication. I am still in their IOP program, for another week where I am learning essential coping skills to stay healthy. I have never felt better because of the staff, doctors, and therapists. My future is hopeful after suffering for so long with the wrong care and diagnosis from others in the psychiatric community. While I am being truthful there is a lot of violence in this facility. But that occurs in any mental health hospital as people are struggling. I felt safe and was protected from the violent patients. Another thing is cleanliness was an issue but I have seen that in other facilities as well. And the food needs improvement too. Robert and slyversters!!!!! Rebecca and the nurses Ann Asian lady black hair and (soshia)nurse from Europe and my doctors are rock stars!!!! They took me as I was and nursed me back to life. I have lived in every state in America and almost all Asian countries. And not my first rodeo. I had the hugest opioid problem and using a once or 2 of coke a day!!! So you can imagine how dope sick I was and meth habit also. I did not trust my life with medical field in denver so I had to get back to Chicago DC or Baltimore as I know the most compassionate first responders to the opioid epidemic are there and lead the way. And that's what I did. Never been here and only read bad reviews. Without the bad reviews I would have stayed away,... What I can say is detox painless and then decided to take maintenance doses. My doctor get me from a pile of sheets on floor back to day trading and aircraft programing..Robert helped me to make the changes to be a dad and Rebecca did everything and anything 100%selfless and 100% love for humanity. I have mixed feelings about this place but I am giving it a one star because overall it just misses the biggest point; helping people in need. I was here for 4 full days and spoke with my doctor for a total of 15-20 minuets-two of my meetings took place in the hallway and the one helpful doctor wasn't my primary and was only there on the weekends. My doctor didn't look at every case on an individual basis and relied on procedure instead. I was clearly misplaced here and if my doctor had talked to any of the nurses, techs, or counselors he would have seen this and granted my release. I am the sole provider for my family and if I don't work, I don't get paid. My anxiety about my livelihood exacerbated my mental state. I was clearly not a harm to myself or anyone else and if the doctor had communicated with other staff he would have seen my participation in groups, my good social habits, and my overall good mental state(besides my anxiety about paying my bills). Doctors should see nuance and treat individual patients, not just talk to them for three minuets and move on. This place was also run like a prison. I was asked to strip and cough like some sort of criminal. All the doors and elevators were locked and no one was allowed outside (fresh air would have done wonders, I think). Morning groups were pointless, staff went over rules of the unit everyday and called that "group" time. It was followed by crafts and music, patients were asked how they were feeling and to provide a coping skill to deal with anger or anxiety, everyone gave textbook canned answers and nothing was pressed or gone into more deeply. The whole experience was very patronizing and residents were treated like children not adults. Why not allow patients to exercise for an hour a day? Why not provide community desktops/chrome books for daily internet access? People should be allowed email access to maintain schedules in their real lives. Instead patients sit around coloring, watching tv, and badmouthing the facility and care. Talk therapy is not a priority here, instead staff wants to pump people full of drugs. My fellow inmates..er residents were given Librium and Adevan and then chastised because they were abusing drugs even though the nurses kept giving them drugs with no intervention. This seemed like a ploy to keep people longer and milk more insurance money from the state/insurance companies. I was looked at as strange for not taking any medication...hello! I wasn't there to get high, I was there to get sober and stop drinking. On the other hand, the second shift counselors were stellar and the only reason I have mixed feelings about this place. Anthony B on the fourth floor was spectacular, he's really good at his job and his messages were poignant, entertaining, and really invoked self inspection. James I. was also really good at his job, he was very passionate and helpful but also didn't take any BS, he seemed very genuine and likable. The nurses and techs were also friendly even though they didn't offer much in form of treatment. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place, poor communication with staff and loved ones of patients, paired with the prison like atmosphere make me not recommend this place. There are good employees here if some new leadership could focus on care and comfort of their patients this could be an above average facility, sadly I don't see that happening. read more

Social worker Suki in the geriatric unit was very unprofessional. My husband was very weak after a tough medical detox. He was and is confused and cannot take care of himself. Suki REFUSED to look into a nursing home for him to recover or even to set up home health visits. When the family complained she wrote in a referral to an agency that doesn't cover my town. The agency talked with Suki and made it clear to her that the referral was inappropriate, yet she still had the foolishness to write it on his discharge. Lazy, sloppy and unprofessional. Dr Khan just never returned my call the entire stay. My husband was going into liver failure when they transferred him out of Edwards hospital in the middle of the night. He should never have been accepted in the first place. They never checked labs even though his platelets had beed critically low and he has esophageal varices. I know my husband is a fool drinking this much and making himself so sick. But no one deserves to be treated in such an irresponsible manner! read more

Please, avoid sending your loved ones to Chicago Behavioral Hospital. This is my review, which is also posted on Google for greater visibility. (Update: Google takes down reviews that are cross posted on Yelp ‍) I was discharged from inpatient today from Chicago Behavioral Health hospital. During my stay, the staff was constantly on their phones, even the doctors and nurses. My psychiatrist, Dr. Butt, was incredibly dismissive and outright lied to me several times. I personally didn't see any other psychiatrists (despite 3 separate requests for a different one), so my experience is limited in that regard. The nurses don't give a damn about their patients. One nurse threatened to give me "the shot" (threatening to sedate me, basically) if I didn't go to my room while I was crying. No questions asked. I wasn't a threat to myself or others, just crying. The facility is critically understaffed, almost all of the patients had the same psychiatrist on my floor (women's unit). The staff members don't know their schedules from day to day, and are pulling 12+ hour shifts regularly. Their stress and dysfunction deeply affects the patients. There was constant shouting, slamming, and chaos day and night. The rules and schedule would change based on what staff member was working. Groups were frequently skipped leaving ample free unstructured time. I watched other patients with severe medical needs being denied requests to see a doctor. When they did get to see a doctor, it would be days after the initial complaint. A woman was brought in a few days after me who only spoke Spanish, and she never was provided a translator. Myself and other patients repeatedly brought this up to the staff. We were ignored, and the woman, unable to communicate, was left to fend for herself. I stayed a total of 10 days. Due to the constant stress I lost a total of 13 pounds (I only weighed 110 to begin with!), my hair started to fall out, my hands constantly shake, and for the first time in years I've broke out with terrible acne. I checked myself in because I thought I would be safe. My trust in the mental health system is destroyed. Tl;dr: Avoid this facility read more

My son was transferred from Evanston Hospital for treatment of a dual diagnosis. Evanston stated that they were ill-equipped to handle him and CBH would manage him. He was transferred within hours. CBH made no attempt to speak with family or prior treating professionals to learn of his current medications, history etc. He remained on a floor where he received no direct treatment and was placed on new medications. He saw a discharge person who was required to act as his therapist and social worker as others were not available. I learned of the horrors of this hospital after I attended a local NAMI meeting where many families shared their own frightening experiences with their loved ones. After bringing my concerns to the attention of the CBH administration, they have made no attempt to rectify the situation except to admit that things went wrong at their end. I have dealt with five psychiatric inpatient units, and CBH ranks highly. This Yelp review addresses the Womens Unit and the Intensive Outpatient Program only. After reading all of the other Yelp reviews, I surmise that perhaps these patients' experiences are with other wards (for example, pediatric, dual diagnosis, geriatric, etc...). Pros: Great psychiatrists Caring nurses and therapists Experienced, flexible mental health techs (they are the ones who directly supervise, guide and support the patients through their days and nights) Outstanding patient advocates Easy to find, park and enter Clean, relaxing environment Good Food Wonderful fellow inpatients Cons: The cons are cons with ALL psychiatric units: *Only one TV per unit *Hard/difficult beds to sleep in *Strict schedule *In most instances, you have a roomate (this can be a good thing, though) *You may not get your medicines right away, if at all. Some inpatients are hooked on opiates, benzodiapines, and/or alcohol, so they have a difficult time sleeping, for example. *Strip search (bend over and cough?!) These cons are particular to CBH *Very poorly managed phone system. It was difficult for inpatients to receive and make calls, which is very important for the patient's recovery. *Wacky schedule that changes a great deal from day to day. Inpatients were told several times that Visiting Hours were on one day, and then someone suddenly changes it, forcing friends and family members have to reschedule or even be turned away. For patients whose first experience as an inpatient in a locked psychiatric unit is CBH, all of these cons seem particularly burdensome. But for us veterans, we know the drill and understand that the cons are for our protection. For example, there are, from time to time, patients who have a breakdown on the ward and may become extremely upset, to the point where they have to be restrained. All of these cons, then, are in place to reduce the number and intensity of such cases. read more

Chicago Behavioral Hospital literally saved my life. I was admitted because my bipolar depression was so bad that I was suicidal. I left 7 days later feeling better than I had in a year. The staff is nice and my psychiatrist Dr. Chimata was excellent. She explained all the options that I had in terms of meds and found the winning combination. I am LIVID. I went to CBH for an outpatient program that was great. Problem is that when u leave u have to communicate through hem to get to your psychiatrist. I have now been off meds for 2 weeks because they keep telling me they will call it in but have not! I have called numerous times a day to be out on hold for over 20 minutes to them be hung up on. I'm on hold now for the 5th time this morning because I tried to call the main hospital number and no one can help me. They hung up on me and will not speak with me. They just keep hitting transfer. I am shocked that a behavior hospital is not keeping up with their MENTAL HEALTH PATIENTS. WE NEED MEDS. I've been having panic attacks daily for weeks and no one is doing anything for me. This is absolutely unacceptable. I'm super disappointed that they just don't care what's happening with their patients. Yesterday I was told my psychiatrist has now left the hospital-I wonder why!!!????!!!??? UNACCEPTABLE ON ANY LEVEL. I would give it zero stars for the level of service I'm getting after leaving the hospital, however I benefited greatly from the IOP program. The after part has ruined my experience though. We are very grateful for the help our son received from Chicago Behavioral Health (CBH); from beginning to end, CBH knew just how to manage, guide and support him. The fact that the facility is not as modern as some should not scare people away because the staff was BY FAR the most connected, caring and thorough of any Inpatient or PHP program our son experienced--so much so that when he was discharged, he was inspired to write "thank you" notes to Halley Jacobs and Siera Smith because he appreciated what they did for him. Halley & Siera were very responsive to our requests and they make an incredible team! Our son repeatedly states that every person he met at CBH was kind and helpful. Special shout-out to Dr. Shiraz Butt for being the first psychiatrist to get his medication correct. read more

I was transferred at night unconscious after being at lutheran general for less than a day. All other places were full. I was having a psychotic break as an outcome of my depression and adderal medication wrongly prescribed to me to be taken together, which is basically me poisoning myself every day on doctors orders. I admitted myself to Lutheran. I woke up after a drug induced coma TWO WEEKS AFTER. BEING TAKEN TO CBH. I woke up with no clue where i was or how i got there, but apparently for two weeks i was walking around, talking, eating, and functioning as if i was not blacked out. I was taking Kolonopin and I DO NOT remember taking the pills or consenting to the pills for the TWO WEEKS i was blacked out and walking around CBH in the Monarch program. There was a man there with a big pink scar on his head, and within FOUR days the scar had changed color to brown and drastically decreased in size; they MESS with people here. They do NOT allow u to walk around in the hallways at night and the big scary "helpers" threaten you if you do not go immediately back to your room. In the middle of the night the staff pushes huge white tables into the hallways. I have no idea what they are trying to hide. I am coming with LEGAL PROBLEMS because it is ILLEGAL to feed an unconscious person drugs to make MONEY off of their STAY. I was blacked out for 14 days and I DEMAND to get ALL my paperwork as evidence. have already reached out to the authorities. They are dirty Masons. Do not take your loved ones here, this facility is the state extraditing people in need of help. I came out of this facility physically week. No excersize. Disgusting food. Dystrophy in my body because of malnourishment and no excersize. PTSD from the terrible conditions and the fact that I do not remember the transition into my room. I woke up from my coma on the ambulance to the place after Lutheran, and i remember walking into the place, taking all my items out of pockets and giving them to the staff. The last thing I remember is that room. It was in the hospital. I do not even remember being admitted into the public unit and sitting on my bed the first night. Somehow i was walking around, talking, at times visiting with my parents, eating....all while BLACKED OUT for fourteen days. I only remember waking up one morning in a strange bed in a strange place where they feed you kolonopin. What did they do? I don't know. But I'm on a mission to find out. I can't speak for anyone else's experience at this facility, but this place saved my life. I'm not sure if I just had a different staff than the people with the bad reviews or if something changed because I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the nurses, techs, therapists, social workers and doctors. Obviously no one wants to be in a mental hospital against their will and there are certain limitations to what we are allowed to do and have, but that is for the best interest of the patients. The rules are for safety. The therapists and social workers go to a job everyday where more than half of the patients hate them because most of us didn't go there by choice and didn't want to be there. But the fact that they still show up to work and are positive enough to make someone who was suicidal and depressed positive says a lot and I can't thank them enough read more

Do not go there understaffed unprofessional do not know what they're doing and my daughter going to a psychiatrist that took 5 years to to get the medicine regiment that's helping her she goes to Chicago Behavioral Health Hospital and the psychiatrist wants to change her regiment that took 5 years and I told him to talk to their doctor psychiatrist and he refused he says we don't do it that way I think she don't need this I don't think she needs that and I said you do not change no medication and I'm getting my child out of there just to let you know I'm making Arrangement after I get off the phone with you this place is a joke they do not have the means the heart or even the care for the patients I asked to see the facilities and they said you can see him when you come visit her tomorrow I said can I just get a walk through and see how it looks because it looks rundown screws in the window keeping them shut and that's one screw front desk painted poorly floor was dirty walls were dirty reception at the front desk with an attitude and then you get attitudes from the staff because the running around because they're understaffed,, I wouldn't send my dog there this is The Adolescents unit they did not have any thing for her diabetes supplies I had to bring all my own bring my own Humalog for her diabetes and she did not get her medication 28 hours and they only gave her 2 medications out of 5 and they gave her one medication at dinner when I was supposed to be at night time when she goes to bed I'm done beating his place down but do not send your child here this place has a lot of incompetent people working there and they're only there for a paycheck. . Was brought there after a suicidal incident. Staff assumed I had been institutionalized before. Didn't inform me about basic hygiene procedures or any other basic necessities. When I mentioned the bathrooms were filthy a technician told me what did I expect for "free" my bill after insurance was over 2000$. When they admitted me it was February and all I had on was a hospital gown. We were right by an entry way, when I told the young lady I was cold (I'm 57 and have severe nerve damage and chronic pain) she responded she felt fine. Then a second administration lady came and took over, I mentioned to her I was very cold, her response was the same. I'm not saying this to be bitter but both staff members were extremely overweight. Needless to say the next morning I had a fever which caused panic among the other patients due to covid concerns. They announced my temperature in front of a room full of other patients. I will say that most the doctors and staff were courteous and professional and I appreciated that. But there are definitely some unprofessional people employed there. read more

I went to CBH for 12 days and naturally I was terrified because i'm 16 and it was my first psychiatric hospital ever. but it was a place with funny staff,good food and good fellow patients. if i were ever to go back i would certainly choose CBH without a second thought. i truly loved the techs there and they were more like friends then people caretakers. they listened,gave great advice and truly cared about us. i can't speak for the adult ward but the adolescent unit couldn't have asked for any better. read more

Was hospitalized back when I was a sophomore, worst experience ever. They prescribe you medication without telling you, the psychiatrists misdiagnose and you rarely see them. Everything is locked up, fogged out windows, didn't allow you to bring blankets into group even though it was freezing. There was actually a day were all of the staff members were late and there was only a nurse on the unit, and two girls were self harming and there was no "professional" in sight. For the young teen unit we couldn't even sit in the main dinning hall we had to go to a cafeteria that seemed like it was in the basement secluded from everyone else, no windows. One of the girls first days she freaked out because she couldn't see outside. I don't know if they treat adults differently but when I went there at 15 it did not make me feel comfortable staying there. I didn't know behavioral hospitals were so much like jail. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! If it were possible to give a negative number for this review, I would do so. My sister is being hospitalized here by the McHenry Health Officials after some psychological issues. After being asked by her to bring some personal effects, I was not allowed entry by the receptionist. This leaves me with questions as to what is happening behind those doors. I am seeing an administrator upon my return tomorrow. Receptionist was very smug... After keeping me waiting for an hour, I simply said "You've had your chance. I will be back tomorrow to see the administrator." If that is any indication, then do not take your loved one here. read more
