Wanting to have an early dinner so that we could go to sleep after 19 hours of flight time and two…read morehours of transit time, we were dismayed to find that dinner is only served at 7.
So we waited at la cordee for the clock to literally strike 7pm before we could even get our menus.
In the meantime, we ordered coffees and a mulled wine. My cappucino which was awful cost 3.50 and had an equivalent cost to my friends mulled wine in the tiniest wine glass imaginable.
My friends hot chocolates with an espresso shot (so a mocha) cost 3.10. In Australia a hot chocolate would have cost more than a coffee.
While I waited, I noticed the wooden tables and chairs with the chairs having a heart each in their headrest.
There are numerous white bears hanging around the restaurant and two framed photos of donkeys?!
For our meals, I ordered the garden salad with goats cheese filo for 13.00. My friends ordered the cheese fondue that comes with potato, bacon and mushroom (15 euros) and the risotto with foie gras, pigeon meat and scallops (23 euros).
We also got complimentary bread.
The salad came in this massive bowl with large lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes, apple slices, sliced almond, lots of bits of bacon, piece of star fruit and three goats cheese filo parcels.
The salad is coated in balsamic vinegar. The salad was delicious. The tomatoes juicy, the lettuce leaves fresh, the filo pastry was deliciously crispy and the goats cheese just melted in my mouth. And I had my first taste of the star fruit. It is so perfectly shaped like a star. Nature is full of surprises! A satisfying meal indeed.
My friends fondue dish was very hearty with lots of potato cubes, crispy cheese, melted cheese, mushroom, and large bits of bacon. It was different to the generic kind of Swiss fondue. This fondue is specific to this region.
My friend also enjoyed his risotto dish. The presentation and taste of the food were excellent but I have to admit the Swiss are probably not known for their service. They refuse to make eye contact, are too busy chatting to their acquaintances, and take your order when they feel like it.
