My family visit St Palais every year and we have given Chez Bob a go for the past 3 years. Our first visit was ok, service not very attentive, took us about 5 minutes to be seated although they were by no means busy (it was 6pm). The food was ok, fries were greasy but the pizza, moules and salads were ok. No changing facilities for babies and they used car booster seats to adjust the height for easy child seating. This wasn't offered to us, we had to ask for it.
Last year we revisited and the service was still as slack although a little less welcoming this time. Still waited far too long to be seated although we had made a reservation, and still it wasn't busy (it was 6.pm again). Food still just ok, chips still greasy etc. Pretty much as it was before. No booster seat offered.
This year was the straw that broke the camels back! Service was very poor, we stood and waited for 10 minutes - no member of staff even acknowledged that we were there even with some attempts at getting their attention. I ended up asking at the bar - no smiles, no sorry you've been waiting just listened to what I had to say and then carried on about their business! Finally managed to get a waiter to seat us and then proceeded to wait a further 10 minutes for some menus. Ended up getting them myself. Again, had to flag down a waiter to take an order. Food was mediocre, chips still greasy etc. No booster seat offered. At this point we resolved not to eat here again. Ever.
Why did it take us so long to come to this conclusion I hear you say? It's a beautiful location, away from the road with the sea and beach just in front of you. The kids can play by the beach and not be bored at the table. We wanted to give Chez Bob a chance and they failed miserably.
We decided to visit St Palais twice this year and went to a wonderful friendly creperie called Créperie la Terrasse and they ticked all the service and tasty boxes, only lacking on the beachfront location. I'm going to write their review right now! read more
