Having had a run of bad luck with an electrical shower that kept blowing fuses I was told to pop…read moredown here as I could 'pick the brains' of the owner and maybe get to the root of the mystery. The shop is quite old school; every nook is crammed with various electrical goods and parts. As they had quite a large selection of electrical showers I was able to point out my model and chatted to the man behind the counter as to why mine was blowing fuses at least once a week. He surmised that we were running the shower at too high a level for the cabling to ably carry the load and that was causing the fuses to blow. After buying a new fuse mount and a few more spares I had a quick browse through the selection of kitchen appliances before heading home for a spot of DIY. The advice was good, after replace the scorched fuse mounts and running our shower on a lower heat setting to date the fuses have remained intact. Pros: Personal touch. Good advice Cons: Shop is cluttered so probably best to ask for what you want first.

Central Electrical Supplies
A very handy electrical store located just off the town centre and behind the city hall. Not sure…read morehow many people know it's here but it's one of the better central electrical suppliers and they always seem to be doing a roaring trade. Most recently I was in after one of those small 'fan heater' things to heat up a particularly freezing office and they actually advised me against buying it as it would "eat electricity". I did admire their honesty at the risk of losing a sale. There are tons of appliances and all manner of lighting and bulbs. Apparently they also install lights and the like and have a couple of very experienced electricians who can fit and kit you out with any of the purchases from the shop. Pros: Helpful friendly staff. Cons: Might be a bit hard to find.

I say jack of all trades because…read morethey specialise in Electrics but this extends to portable appliance testing (Safety checks for you and me), fire alarm systems, CCTV systems, computer Cabling, security, intercom systems, emergency lighting and Inspection and testing. The reason I write about Woodmac and Sons is that they managed to solve an electrical mystery in one of my previous employers kitchens. The fuse blew up in the kitchen and we were left in total darkness, I even started peeling the head chefs head instead of the potatoes, that's when he decided to call in the electricians. Two separate electrician companies came out and were flummoxed (great word) by what was causing the power surge and in turn the kitchens electric fusing, but within 5 minutes of arriving Woodmac and Sons managed to solved the mystery and fix the problem. No, it was not the chef in the cellar with the candlestick it was in fact the blue fly lights that were causing the electric to trip. If you have an electrical mystery that needs to be solved then I would call Woodmac and Sons, they are reliable and affordable and really know their stuff.
