I had an incredible time at the Chesterfield County Fair last night! I went with my fiancé and a…read morefriend. We decided to do an engagement photoshoot at the fair for some unique photos. They allowed me to bring in my camera, but know that you can only bring in clear bags or small purses. Entry for adults was $12. We went on a Wednesday around 8pm. On weeknights they are open until 11pm. I had really low expectations and was pleasantly surprised, this fair was amazing! We stayed until closing. We caught the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack show which was a bit cheesy, but still fun. We then caught an incredible circus show with acrobats, stuntmen, and more. We were in awe after their performances. We got a lot of fun photos on the rides and at one of the games. We had fun riding the merry go round and the ferris wheel. In between rides we got a really yummy fried cheesecake. We played my favorite fair game, the water race. Everyone who worked the fair was extremely kind. It was such a nostalgic and fun evening. We closed our evening with some hot dogs and fried oreos. The fair is great fun for all ages! Like most fairs and carnivals, do know that it can get expensive with games, rides, and food, but it's a blast. Their is free parking right across the street from the main entrance. There were women and men restrooms in indoor spaces. They even had fair prize winners on display in certain rooms. I loved this fair and can't wait to go again next year.

Not a lot of vendors. Not a lot of games. Not a lot of food options. Long, slow lines to get in. We two adults and three kids managed to have a fun time regardless. I liked the butterfly exhibit. Appreciated the clean bathrooms in the exhibit area. Convenient parking at L.C. Bird right across the street. If you're going to ride rides, find your wristband for half price ($12.50) online or... we got ours at a bank. It'll still cost you $10 (adults) to just get in. Doubtful I go again, but it does seem like a fun place to be if you live nearby. It felt like a small, community event.

Never did find VIP reserved parking lot so we just parked on the street. One of the origanizers told me there was 1 sign on some street. Should have been a sign pointing to parking on every major street. They have no band, just a DJ playing crap like the cha cha slide. There is no bourbon or spirits except for one distillery and they give you little thimble tastings. 90 degrees, so sorry but I don't want to stand in the sun and drink bourbon shots. No ginger ale or ice available. Almost every beer offering is a damn IPA. 90 degrees and not one light crisp lager. The VIP food is a smattering of frozen gorcery store tub bbq on a bun with a spoonful of slaw and a spoonful of beans. The VIP tent is small with very limited seating, most of it in the sun. My group of 6 VIP ticket holders arrived at 1PM and left at 2PM. We all agreed it sucked. It was not well attended. Not surprising.

Also, you get to taste beer and wine... which is always a huge plus. I tasted so many I don't even remember them all but I know my favorite this year was one from Chesapeake, VA called Ingleside Vineyards. They had this wine with a blue crab label that was out of this world!! It was their Blue Crab Red... and it was phenomenal! I have to say, VA is starting to become a pretty large competitor in the wine community... this vineyard in my opinion is rated as one of the higher end ones that I've tasted. The food options were nice... I was a bit disappointed that Saucy's wasn't there but Wabi Sabi was and that was quite tasty. Over all, this was definitely a fantastic event and I can't wait to go again next year!

The tour guides have always been very knowledgable and were able to answer questions about the time period, history and family. The gift shop is wonderful. Historical and archaeological research has restored much of the house and found the foundations for outbuildings, the kitchen, laundry, slave quarters, smokehouse. The house has a surprising variety of the owner's furniture, including the original 1822 family. Don't miss the "high chair" in the dining room - my personal favorite - and the detail in the crazy quilt made by one of the daughters and mothers. All the rooms are decorated and furnished to the time of the different residents, and are really well storied and restored. Although the roof clearly needs work and has damaged some of the second floor ceilings. Our docent was just superb, and led us though with plenty of stories of the owners and times, and pointed out many special furniture items. We took our time and were a larger group of 9, so the tour took about an hour. It was a $5 entry fee, $4 senior rate. Easy access off Ironbridge Road and located directly across from the old 1917 Courthouse and Courthouse Green, although I recommend driving over, not walking, if you continue your local history tour at the County Museum and Old Jail.
