McCool Insurance Agency - Bill receiving recognition for 60 years in business this year!

McCool Insurance Agency

I have been an on and off McCool customer since 1997. I have had and currently have auto insurance…read morewith them. Previously, with my commercial rental properties as well as my home insurance. You would think, that if you pay for auto insurance, that your car is covered. I too, dealt with Melinda N who represent and works for McCool Insurance. Within the last year, I have had 2 bad experiences in dealing with Melinda. First of all, call backs were consistently late to where I had to actually go in to the office to take care of my business. The first issue, I had brought to Bill McCools attention, was the rude attitude Melinda had when dealing with her. She seemed bothered by my presence, was late more than 2 days on call backs, and could not answer many of my questions. My second issue is my car was involved in a fender bender in Maine recently, Aug 21, 2023. No worries as stated in the letter I received from Holly at Safeco: ("Rest assured, that my number 1 priority is to make your experience as easy and worry free as possible.") Yea Right. Did business as usual. No one was hurt and my daughter reported the accident promptly as she was driving the car. Car perfectly drivable and just drove 650 miles from maine. Holly Gwynne, who is a claims adjuster for safeco was equally as difficult to reach as well. Phone calls, emails, crickets. She did finally call only to tell me why my claim was denied. Fraud for misrepresentation and blah blah. So, my daughter, uses my car. She does not live with me. Not req'd to be on the policy as she doesn't live with me. Safeco has an "special investigator" call me and grill me recorded like Im a criminal. Then they call my daughter and do the same. My daughter is not a Safeco customer and is traumatized by the questioning. So the claim is denied, Im out thousands of dollars and they didn't drop me or give me any money back to date. Back to Melinda Nunley on this case, spoke with her to question the fraud charges and details. No answer. not her issue. I get pushed off to another agent at McCools. Melinda straight up lied to me and said that if the car was away from its garaged location more can 2 days, its considered "away" from the garaged location. BTW, I sold my home 2 wks prior so my garaged location didn't even exist. I was and currently am houseless. Melinda also pushed me in to Safeco/Liberty. That company has the lowest customer satisfaction and the highest rates on multiple sources (ex Caranddriver.com etc) on the internet with 8 of the major insurers. Your interest are not in their best interest for you. I am absolutely disgusted with their service. Agents aren't helpful at all. Ive already spoke with a lawyer and will pursue this legally if my review is denied that Im currently preparing. I will update tis review regularly with my progress. Fraud is a serious accusation and I will defend my name in this baseless accusation. Get your insurance elsewhere.

I wonder if I had worn my usual court attire after work rather than my hoodie, if Melinda Nunley…read morewould have been more respectful and courteous. I couldn't fathom why on earth she was so comfortable treating me so poorly through the entire duration of the short meeting. I don't know what the issue was because from the moment I sat down, she looked at her watch. Then I counted 4 more times through the duration of the meeting where she seemed bothered and looked at her watch. She sighed numerous times when I asked questions and had a condescending and boorish tone. I even tried to break the ice with her asking if she's waiting for her kids to let her know if they made it home safe and asked if she's been to the local restaurant next door and she claimed the restaurant "looked scary". I couldn't quite wrap my head around her comment about the restaurant. She gave me a high quote on my car by only asking me year and model and over estimated the value of my home. She didn't ask many questions to even obtain those quotes. I asked if there was anything that could be changed and she sternly told me no (after a short speech about losing her license if she did make changes) but after I pulled out my other policy, low and behold she made some changes. The last straw for me was her insinuating I was lying that I had a lower quote through Geico's Traveler's Ins. because she saw I had a check from them. She stated twice, "I just saw how much they reimbursed you for". That in turn made me explain what the check was in regards to exactly as if to defend myself. I can honestly say she tried to deter me from asking for a quote in the beginning by claiming I would have to start ALL over again because they are a separate agent from GEICO. She sat there silently after that comment instead of being helpful and offering to see what she could do. The whole process was not to help me but to get me out of her chair with little to no effort to appease my needs as a customer. Even the secretary seemed reluctant to ask Melinda if she could take me as if it was putting her out. If this was my business, I would want to know this information but I get the feeling Melinda is extremely comfortable and probably gets away with this with no repercussions. She certainly wasn't standing by the "Efficiency, Clarity and Value" that the company advertises as their model to stand by. I truly question the validity of 119 reviews in this small town especially for insurance. Yet on their main page it pushes people to leave a review which is bad practice in advertising. Something is simply off. Very off.

Then they decided to take the payment from my checking account without approval. They didn't apologize but laughed about it like it was no big deal. I really think what they did is illegal. When Roxanne Cameron found the check she slammed it on the desk. I was too flabbergasted to say anything and just left. I'm afraid to cancel that they won't give me my payment back but I am searching for an honest company with better customer service.

Then they had the nerve to take a payment from my checking account. I NEVER gave the company permission for autopay, so they had a lot of nerve in doing that. The agent acted like the whole thing was my fault and she was actually laughing at me. She didn't take it seriously at all. This was a lot of money for me. I save up to be able to pay it in full. I give a bank check which is cash. No appreciation in any way for being a 20 year client and always paying in advance or on time. I'm doing everything right and the customer service was horrible. Not taking the situation seriously and laughing. Basically, they were stealing money from me. Finally, she found the check that had been in somebodies drawer for 12 days and acted like it was no big deal. Then she slammed the check on the desk and said here's your money. I didn't even get her name because I was so flabbergasted with her attitude. What happened to customer service and appreciating a customer that pays on time. Since, I already paid for the whole year and fear of cancelling that they wouldn't give me a refund, I'm stuck for now, but I'll be researching other companies for next year. Catherine Morrison
