GO HERE. I'm not sure what was better- the out of this world food or the service! The chef came out and took our order and served us so we spent a good amount of time speaking with him. He learned from the old school Indian chef, he is five star trained but all of that means nothing if the food isn't great- right? It was absolutely incredible. We ordered the samosas as well as the non-vegetarian Thali and an order of butter chicken. We cleaned the plates. Everything is done slowly and with passion. Me and my wife were craving for some good Indian food on our 1st night in Interlaken. We decided to check out this new restaurant. Food was excellent! Both of dishes were to our liking, loved every bite of paneer butter masala and dal Makhni with the Naan and basmati rice. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good quality Indian Food in Interlaken. This place also has a very peaceful and beautiful ambience to it. With all the raves about this place on yelp, the wife and I decided to pay a visit while on our trip to Interlaken. The 2 stars are for the location and the ambience of this place. We were seated in the outdoor patio and it was just perfect. The food quality was substandard, very contrasting to how they were boasting about the quality of their Biryani and that their preparation techniques are no match to anyone else in the area. I have eaten at every other Indian restaurant in Interlaken, Lucerne and Lugano areas - by far this was the most disappointing experience. This place is amazing! The chef Abbey ( short for his real name) is a magician! His food prep is excellent. I had the fish Biryani( I've never had Biryani) and I loved it but the lamb curry is to die for!! My wife was raving about her dish and once I tried it I understood why!! The naan was very good and the shrimp starter was out of this world! Our night ended with a naan bread dessert which I was able to watch Abbey prepare in his kitchen!! What a treat!! My very first review on Yelp! I am overwhelmed with the Vegetables biryani (I had here yesterday). My husband loved the Lamb Biryani he had yesterday and we decided to come again to this restaurant today. I ordered Paneer butter masala which was freshly made by the great chef Abhi! The Naan was amongst the best Naan I ever had. Thanks Chef for the special naan it was yummy! The staff is friendly and the ambiance is good too! What else do you need in Switzerland? I want to start off by saying that I am a New Yorker who has had her share of Indian food and I also NEVER write reviews. When I traveled to Interlaken in late July 2019, the last thing I expected was to have the best Indian food of my life while there. My friends and I stumbled onto this place by luck. We were turned away from the local Korean joint and the bar across from Chennai was packed with no seat in sight. Finally, out of desperation and hungry, we landed at Chennai. It must have been fate because what proceeded to happen was one of the highlights of the trip. I was with two very seasoned Indian food connoisseurs. I left it up to them to order a couple appetizers and mains. The service was prompt and the waiter took our order while also recommending an awesome Indian beer. There was only one chef on scene but our food came out in decent time and everything was fresh off the stove. The garlic naan was superb! Afterwards, when the chef chatted with us, he showed us the burnt naans he would toss during the course of cooking. This just shows how much care he has in preparing his food. Our table shared the pakoras and the sauce that came with was divine. It was my first but definitely not last time having the pakoras after that great experience. My main was the Chicken Chennai and the Chicken Tandoori. I love spicy food but I don't like the spice to overwhelm the flavor of the dish. The spice level of the Chicken Chennai was perfect. The Chicken Tandoori was moist and the flavor was very satisfying. My friends and I ended up going there 3 times during our stay in Interlaken. That is how much we enjoyed the food and the staff. The chef and his team are extremely friendly and lovely people. The chef even showed us his rack of spices and how he sources it directly from India. Each time we went we had an awesome experience and a great time knowing that our food would be delicious and well worth the trip. To Abid the chef: if you are reading this - hello from your guests from New York! We miss your cooking and if we are back in Switzerland at some point we will definitely make a stop to see you! read more

A small Indian restaurant kind of off the beaten path--we came here for dinner. The staff was very pleasant and quick to serve us. I had Chicken Tikka Masala and my husband had Lamb Biryani. Both were very delicious. The Tikka Masala was a bit on the spicy side, but I still enjoyed it. I judge Indian food based on Naan !! This was among the best we've had. We both ordered the garlic variety. I would highly recommend passing other Indian food restaurants to come to this one! read more

Congratulations chef Abhi! You have a great place here. We came here twice in our 2 night stay. That should say enough about this place! Excellent food. We had lamb biryani and vegetarian biryani on the first day, it was absolutely brilliant which forced us to come back again to try out their curries. The 2nd day we ordered curries - chicken chettinaad and paneer butter masala which had the perfect amount of spices. Chef replaced naan instead of rice for my wife's order of paneer butter masala and she loved it!! For anybody using yelp in Interlaken and craving for Indian food, this is your place! It was a real pleasure to come across this Indian restaurant in Interlaken. On a quiet Tuesday evening, we were served delicious food promptly. The serves were ample without being unmanageable and the food was tasty and well spiced, without being overpowering. Prices were, in my opinion, very reasonable. This place is amazing! Visiting from CA, USA and have had my fair share of Indian foods and this one has to be on my top 2. We were greeted by the chef and he made suggestions and was also flexible with what we wanted to order. I ordered what he had suggested, Chicken Chettinad and asked him to make it a hint spicier for me. Food came out fresh and delicious. Great portion of naan, he also suggested the herb naan, which was also delicious. We had such a wonderful experience at Chennai Biryani House. The staff were very welcoming and the food excellent. What made our experience exceptional was the hospitality shown by the owner. Abhi invited us into the kitchen to see the oven where he bakes his homemade naan and showing us the kitchen set up, explaining his curated spice box and demonstrating how he combines spices to blend flavors. We felt like we were taking an Indian cooking course in the kitchen of a longtime friend; Abhi makes you feel right at home in his restaurant. The menu is filled with comfort food and we enjoyed the curries; spiced perfectly for our taste. The lamb curry came in a rich red sauce and we spooned the sauce on everything. The mango lassi provided the perfect cooling effect to the spicy heat for our 11 year old son, who thinks he can tolerate more spice than he actually can! The chicken tikka we ordered was moist and flavorful. While the food was good, Abhi and his staff are what take this restaurant over the top. They are kind and warm people who have a passion for what they cook, and that is tasted in the food. We ordered from the Chennai Biryani House via eat.ch like we have from many other restaurants without any problems. Delivery time was supposed to be 50 minutes, but after 1 hr and 45 minutes we still didn't have our food. We tried calling, messaging, and got no reply. Finally we were able to get ahold of them and they claimed the order didn't come in because they had internet problems. The meal was charged already from my credit card. They then said "oh the order is coming in now", that's almost 2 hours after we placed it. They delivered the food 2:30 after we placed our order, no compensation, no effort to make up for the delay, nothing, just excuses. One of the dishes we ordered was either the wrong dish or terribly burnt, it was inedible. Zero customer service, terrible experience, never again. read more
