The food here was really, really good! I had the caesar salad, which in my opinion was heavy on the horseradish, but the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese were excellent. My husband had a mushroom risotto that was also very good, but the pan fried grouper was really amazing, and with bacon bleu cheese mash! Incredible food and service, the steamed mussels are in the must-try category, served in a curry infused coconut milk broth , it was a welcomed departure from simple butter or white wine sauce. Next, the chorizo chicken Alfredo was delicious. Too often pasta dishes can feel like eating a pound of the same old same old. Not so with dish, the use of chorizo in the dish made each bite a little different from the last and assured the dish never became boring. My husband had the duck and noted the duck was cooked to a perfect medium. Often, duck is served over cooked, thus ruining the natural oil and delicate flavor of the meat. Compliments to the chef and our server Vinnie, first class service. Vinnie was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive but didn't hover, a fine line to be sure. My husband and I are from the Saint Louis area and were vacationing for our 20th wedding anniversary. We chose the Chef's Table for our anniversary dinner (May 5th) and we are so glad we did! The service was excellent from the host who greeted us, the server who took care of us, and the chef's who cooked for us. We ordered the house salad for an appetizer, which was delicious. We both ordered the specials for our entree's. My husband had the lamb chops and I had the scallops. The chops were melt in your mouth tender and full of flavor situated on a bed of homemade pasta in an amazing sauce with yummy little meatballs.The scallops were seared perfectly over a bed of risotto in an incredible sauce topped with asparagus that added the perfect texture. Not sure if the tops of the asparagus were flash fried or torched, but it sent it over the edge. Fantastic! We travel a lot and our pallets have matured over the years. They definitely know what they are doing at the Chef's Table in Waynesville NC. We can't wait to return! read more

Easily one of the finest dinners we've had. We're both foodies and lived in Chicago, a true restaurant mecca, for nearly 30 years, and I can't recall a single meal that was better. I started with the mussels, a large portion done in a unique broth. My wife had the grilled romaine salad - quite large, original, and magnificent. My entrée was the deconstructed lasagna - again, original, imaginative, and wonderful. My wife had the eggplant parmesan - it was like nothing we could have imagined, and magnificent. Our waiter, Shane, apparently overheard me mention to the strangers at the next table that it was my birthday (they were celebrating a birthday as well), which resulted in a complimentary crème brulee, again one of the best we've had. Portions are generous and prices are a bargain. What a lucky find! read more

Awesome!!!! We had a great experience here. We started with the mussels which were really tasty, sweet but a little kick. Then I had the deconstructed lasagna which was absolutely amazing. My better half had another pasta dish, sorry cant remember the name, but it was great as well. We had a bottle of wine with dinner and the wines were very reasonable priced. OUTSTANDING meal!! Started with excellent but reasonable bottle of wine, the goat cheese risotto balls and deviled eggs each of which had their own sauces. Dinner among us included an amazing pork loin stuffed with date and fig over mashed potatoes with veg and amazing sauce, a salad with Brie, nuts and fruit and a shrimp pasta. Everyone was full and quite satisfied. I'm sure the desserts would be equally excellent but we just didn't have it in us. Alan, our server, let us set the pace and was there as desired but didn't dwell...perfect in my book. My husband and I stopped in to this quaint spot for our anniversary dinner. The food was AMAZING!!! I had the deconstructed lasagna and my hubby had the stuffed grouper. We normally visit Waynesville a couple times a year & this is one of our favorite places. It is a very small restaurant (I think that it sits only 36), which makes for a very intimate experience. The owner-chef creates amazing dishes - I particularly like the Shrimp & Grits. Would suggest it for anyone looking for a cozy, intimate dinner. read more

Had the Deconstructed Lasagna and my parents had the Fig & Goat Cheese Chicken. Both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The Deconstructed Lasagna comes with a filet mignon wrapped in their homemade pasta sheets...the filet was cooked perfectly. The cheese sauce on it was to die for. Wish they would temp their wine but other than that great experience/great ambiance. It's an adorable little place; book reservations early. read more

I had high expectations due to other reviews but it wasn't that. Don't get me wrong the meal was delicious, just not amazing. I had the black & blue pasta, great homemade noodles but the sauce was a little watery and it wasn't a huge portion but a just right portion. It was really dessert though that made me give it 3 stars. I was hoping for homemade but I saw the chef grab a frozen lava cake in a plastic package . Amazing service, amazing food, and just an over all amazing experience. We started our meal with the steamed mussels which were quite good. We were not expecting the hint of curry with the mussels but it worked very well (dip the supplied bread in the juice from the mussels..you won't be disappointed!). For my main course I ordered the chicken BLT Alfredo dish and my girlfriend ordered the grouper. We loved both and had no criticism about either. I went to this restaurant based on reviews but I was not impressed . I ordered the risotto balls that I have to admit we're delicious but then I found the menu to he extremely heavy, each dish loaded with something in top. I am a vegetarian so my option was only one , pasta with plan sauce and I chose creamy Parmesan on top of parpadelle. My background is Italian so I was not happy with the pasta floating on cream (even though I had requested hold the sauce) and the Parmesan used was so so very salty that I could not eat it. To make sure it was not just my tastebuds I had my companion try it and she said "you cannot eat that". I felt bad but sent it back and requested the same pasta with olive oil and Parmesan on the side, again the Parmesan could not even be used sparely because of its strong taste . I was charged $9 for the boiled plain pasta . Oh well... Abs to our surprise they have no espresso machine which is very rare in a five stars restaurant . Not impressed but service was outstanding and the place very nice with an interesting wine selection . read more

We were in NC for a weekend anniversary and chose The Chef's Table and were we pleased. When they saw we were celebrating our anniversary, they offered us a complimentary champagne which was very good. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive but not so that they are intrusive. I ordered the crab cakes with corn and tomato risotto and my husband had the scallops with regular risotto. Both of our entrees were superb and the fact that they executed two different risottos so well was amazing. To full for dessert but coffee was excellent too. Will make the 280 mile round trip again, it was that good. read more

Do yourself a favor and go 2 doors down to the Frog Leap Public House! Went to the Chefs Table this past Sunday. It was TERRIBLE! The menu listed online is not at all the menu you will be given. I called ahead for reservations & to verify they had vegetarian options. They assured me they did. They had 1 - eggplant Parmesan. We placed 2 orders for mussels as an appetizer. After 10 minutes, we were informed they only had enough for 1 order. It was 5pm - we were the first diners. We were given bread plates. Never received any bread. We each got 1 drink each. Would have liked another, but the waiter never came back. Food extremely bland and unimaginative. Additionally, the dining room floor dirty and window into kitchen filthy. Nice place in downtown . Very good service, nice atmosphere . Not the most delicious food for the price but it was good overall . They could use a little more spice to their steaks plus the grouper could use something to make it really special . Also should have more selection on their wine by glass list. Lots of choices for the bottle but very little for glass which is what some people want instead of a full bottle. The Caesar salad was very good! read more

Tried going there recently and had another unpleasant experience, ended up leaving. This place is delicious! We went based on the recommendation of a friend. We had an 8 o'clock reservation for 2 and weren't seated till around 8:20. Its a small place and looks like people tend to stay and chat and enjoy their wine. The staff apologized profusely for our wait...the food was worth the wait. I had the stuffed flounder special and it was so good! The risotto was so good I could have eaten a bowl of it. They only had one dessert option by the time we finished eating, which was disappointing...the chocolate cake the tables around us looked really good! Probaby the BEST restaurant in Waynesville! But, if you think you're going, get a reservation... this small, quaint restaurant fills up quickly! Four of us ate at Chef's Table September 24. The atmosphere is cozy, with two small dining rooms on either side of the bar/open kitchen. Our server was top notch, and we were happy to leave her a top-notch tip. My picky-eater 100% Sicilian hubby raved over the clams and pasta and never came up for air till it was gone. My shrimp and grits was the best I've eaten anywhere. My son & DIL raved over their chicken marsala. The house-made pasta is a wonderful treat. They start you off with house-made bread and hummus, both delicious. The hummus has toasted black sesame seeds in it. We had the Godiva chocolate cheesecake for dessert -- to die for. On our next trip to Waynesville, you can bet we'll be eating here! Once my grandparents passed away, my daughter and I didn't have anything to do on Christmas Eve. We took a chance 4 years ago on going to Chef's Table for dinner on Christmas Eve and it is now our tradition! We haven't missed a year since! I love the atmosphere there and it is the only restaurant around that makes their own fresh pasta, butter, ice cream, desserts. Everything is made right there by the chef as it is ordered.
