Well, what a delight! An informal atmosphere with delicious food. Fresh-baked pita and homemade hummus is the best I've ever tasted. I ordered the garlic chicken. The flavors were mixed nicely inside the wrap. My husband had the beef gyro and I had a taste which left my palate happy! We first tried Chef Moussa 10 months ago when visiting Peoria and I have dreamt about it ever since. The flavors are amazing and the people are so kind. Both times we have been treated like family. We were back in Peoria today and I had to stop by again. It was even better than I remembered. We've tried the beef schwarma, gyro, and the baba ganoush with pita. The way the pita comes all puffed up and steams when you open it is so fresh and good. I only wish that I lived closer so I could go more often. Family owned business, was greeted by a smiling woman behind the counter. I ordered the mixed grill and my guest ordered the gyro platter. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. The star of the lunch was the pita bread. It came out steaming. I will come back just for the bread. The location is a little of the beaten path but well worth the trip. I'd give it 5 star if it wasn't so expensive. You order and pay at the counter. They bring your food out. I had the gyro sandwich which was good. My son had the gyro plate which came with sides. Our bill with 2 drinks was $37.00. I will say the gyro is huge and I brought a lot home. read more

Chef Moussa knocked it out of the park! Both the service and the food quality that I received at Chef Moussa is everything I look for when searching for a place to spend my hard earned money. They definitely earned my repeat business today! From the moment I walked in I felt like I was welcomed. Greeted by Moussa himself, I could tell that he takes pride in his business and his menu. I asked him about a few items on the menu and he was excited to describe the differences and explain the flavor profile. Moussa then showed off his perfect score from their recent health department inspection. I had an order of the humus with the fresh baked pita bread. It's the little things that make a big difference. Little things like making the pita bread fresh, from scratch. Little things like fresh, scratch made humus. For the entree, I had the chicken shawarma and my dad had the classic gyro. Both made to perfection! I'm pretty sure that I had tears of joy and bliss after my first bite. For the sides we had the fries and a rice medley. Their fries, like the rest of everything there, were fresh, not frozen and cooked to perfection. Such good food!! This is easily some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot. I literally can't go here without getting the baba ganoush, it's that good. And the pita is the best, made fresh to order, can't beat that! Also, his veggie shawarma sandwich is one of the best things I've ever eaten. There are tons of great veggie options for anyone who eats plant-based, as well as the classic meat/traditional options. It came with fresh baked pita bread--still warm and puffed up from the oven. The chicken was seasoned with the perfect blend of spices; the salad was fresh and crunchy; the falafel was crisp on the outside but still fluffy and moist on the inside. The portion sizes are more than adequate. What I love the most compared to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area is that they serve you freshly prepared pita bread. I was visiting from out of town and decided I wanted some hummus for lunch, and a quick Google search led me to Chef Moussa. The exterior is no frills, but the inside is clean and spacious and the owner was very friendly. I ended up ordering the mixed shawarma platter with hummus and baba ganouj with a side of falafel. It smelled AMAZING! Every single bit was delicious, and it included fresh, soft pita that made it that much better. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right--nice and tender. The platter was more than enough for lunch with plenty of leftovers to take back to my hotel for later. I'm not sure what's in the garlic sauce, but it's addictive. The baklava was tasty as well. I understand it's a hole in the wall and probably family run but they need to work on their process improvement. The cashier is also the cook running back and fourth so you wait forever just to put in your order. After you order you can't use credit card and when you ask for your recipe it looks like a kid used his toy to type up some numbers on a typewriter. The food is decent but nothing mind blowing for the price. For $15 an entree I left lunch still feeling somewhat hungry and disappointed.
