Fire! Best Chinese food I've ever had , no BS. Great quality! No CAP, Freshly cooked and flavorful!

Salt & pepper pork chops! Over 50% batter. Many pieces with no meat
    Kim C.

I was craving salt & pepper chicken wings but decided to get pork chops and I wanted to try a new place. I live in Monterey Park and why did I decide to try Montebello? Their prices were low... now I know why. The pork chop is sliced into small slivers and some are just the batter with no meat. I couldn't taste any of the salt & pepper! The orange chicken reminded me of sweet and sour chicken with a slight orange taste. The rice that comes with your order is so small. The best part of the meal were the two fortune cookies.

Chicken broccoli in black bean sauce

I stopped by Chef Chen for lunch while I was in the neighborhood. It was a quiet afternoon, so I was seated right away and my order was taken quickly. I chose the chicken and broccoli from the lunch special menu and asked if they could make it with black bean sauce- they did! The lunch special was a great deal at $11.55 and included edamame, an eggroll, soup, rice, and the entrée. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The chicken and broccoli in black bean sauce was especially tasty. Service was quick and friendly, and the whole experience was smooth and satisfying.

My family and I do frequent stops here to eat! Food is always delicious, fast, and reasonably priced because portions are big! We always have left overs for another meal at home. Service is always friendly and place is always clean. This is my to go spot for Chinese fast food -- always hits the spot! - beef chow fun 10/10 my favorite! - Mongolian Beef 10/10! Always so good!! - combination noodles/chow main 10/10 - sweet and sour pork 10/10! Crunchy on the outside and tender inside. - fried egg rolls 10/10 perfection! Crunchy and savory in every bite. - thai tea with boba is delicious! Not pictured is the orange chicken and walnut shrimp which are very delicious as well! Flavors and quality is always consistent which I like. You get complimentary steamed rice! Simple and delicious.

I had the Kung Pao Chicken Lunch Special it was delicious, from the miso soup, edamame and the egg roll. Everything was so good. I will repeat!

First time at Chef Chen and definitely not the last! We came in for the first time and were blown away by how delicious everything was. We ordered the BBQ pork, Kung Pao chicken, and the house lo mein (which came with steak, chicken, and shrimp) every single dish was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The service was just as impressive as the food. Our waiter was fast, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without us having to ask. Chef Chen exceeded our expectations, and we're already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

I have been coming here for the past five years or so. I gotta say that their food is amazing. I am never disappointed when it comes down to anything that they serve there. The service is quick. The food is served hot made to order. The location is small and sometimes it may be busy, but I feel like those are the best places to go to.

Not bad for Chinese Gave this place a go for Christmas dinner 2023 and it did not dissapoint. Cant say too much about Chinese food and being critical makes no sense. Whenni picked up this order, there was alot people eating in the dining room so thats a good sign. I even somehow dropped an order on the floor and the staff was quick to clean it up for me and replace my fallen order. Ordered the.... Fried rice Pan fried noodles Mongolian beef Black bean fish Honey walnut prawns Fried squid All was awesome EXCEPT the fried squid...it was tough and NOT crispy. ...the other dishes were perfect for hypertension and future heart issues. Lol Overall...4 STARS for this food and flavor

This restaurant is located within the Montebello Plaza. Tons of free parking so no worries there. Got here within an hour of closing time. Upon entry, my first impression was, it's a hole in the wall. Upon my last bite of the food, my last impression was, it's a hidden gem with a hole in the wall aura. It turns out this place is a fusion between Chinese and Hawaiian flavors. Cool! However, the name of the biz tells me otherwise. I was thinking Chinese and Japanese. I was greeted right away by Jenny. I believe she is the owner. She's a very friendly and nice lady. Thanks Jenny for your warm welcome and wonderful hospitality. Atmosphere was okay. A few tables and chairs for dine-in. Menu was quite massive. I wanted something simple so I got the special plate with 2 items that comes with white rice and/or chow mein noodles. First, I checked out the items under the heat lamps. There weren't too many options left since it was already late. The two items that still looked appetizing were the teriyaki chicken and stir fried zucchini + green beans so that's what I got. There was a fresh pan of broccoli and beef, but I don't eat beef. However, broccoli looked mighty fresh and green. I asked Jenny if she would throw in some broccoli in my plate alongside the chosen veggies. She said she couldn't do a full scoop because it would be considered a 3rd item, but a couple stalks of broccoli is fine. Thanks Jenny for the 2 tasty broccoli! As I was paying for my special plate, I looked up and saw the famous Miki Bowl to the right of the menu. Bowl is basically teriyaki chicken with white rice. I got it for my eldest daughter. She liked it! Here's my take on the food, everything and I mean everything was delicious. Chicken was perfectly marinated and so very tender. Good amount of it, too. YUM! Must get every time. All veggies were fresh, crunchy, and well seasoned. I was super surprised how tasty the chow mein noodles turned out. I couldn't stop eating them. It was that good. Rice is rice... nothing special. I highly recommend Miki Chan's for great service, amazing taste and flavors, exceptional value, and very generous portions (I think my plate was about 3 lbs of food). Come and get some tasty goodness! I know I'll be back for sure.

It is a nicely stacked bowl that has everything but the kitchen sink in it - roast pork belly, catfish, squid, eggplant, and stuffed jalapeno with fried fish cake. Very filling and reasonably priced! The only reason I gave this place a 4 instead of 5 rating is because you can only order certain items from the menu when they open. My crew and I went on a Friday night, and even though it was very busy, we were seated fairly quickly. Chicken Fried Rice: It was soft and pillowy with great flavor, though I felt it could have used a bit more color. It looked a little pale, but it was still delicious. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein: This was perfect. The flavor was spot on, the sauce was well-balanced, and the noodles had the ideal texture. The ratio of noodles, vegetables, and meat was just right. Sweet and Sour Chicken: This was the highlight for me. My only regret is not ordering more to take home. The chicken was crispy without being overdone, and it was coated in that delicious sweet and sour sauce. Juicy Pork Dumplings: We were at a dumpling house, so we had to order dumplings. These did not disappoint. They were very flavorful, and the broth inside was rich and satisfying. We originally planned to order more dishes, but the portions were generous, and we ended up with just the right amount to leave satisfied. Overall, this place lives up to the hype. Come early and get seated right away and there's still ample parking in their parking lot. By the time we left at 7:30p, the lot was packed and people circling around hoping to snag a spot from folks leaving. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Came at 530 pm on a tuesday, and there wasen't anyone here yet. Afterwards it filled up quickly!! The main thing I dont like about this place is they dont have the prices on what your ordering. Which I'll get too at the end. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their menu is super extensive. I love how they have a little bit of everything. And its very well organized too. We ordered the following: 1. Crab and fish maw soup- this soup was amazing. It was just the right temp. Got me sweating. Can easily feed 12 people. Great amount of maw. The consistency is just right. Tasted so good!! 2. Small lobster special- on a bed of noodles. It was about 5 lbs. Cooked well. Could do without. Basically flavors. And it was expensive!! About $30 a lb. So this one dish cost basically the same amount as all the other dishes. Which was just too much. If I knew it was that much I would definitely not have ordered it. 3. Walnut shrimp- not the best walnut shrimp I've had. But it was ok. 4. Garlic shrimp- this shrimp dish was ok. Too many bell peppers and onions. It was just ok. 5. Mongolian beef- flavors were not that great. Very tender though. Could've been better. 6. Sea trout- this was amazing!! I love the sauce. Fish was so soft and tender. The heat, the spice, the sweetness. Some of that sauce in white rice was just perfection. It was really really good. Best dish of what we ordered. 7. Kung pao chicken- this was a really good dish. Crispy bits of chicken. But so soft and tender inside. I love the sauce that it was in. It was by far one of the highlights of the meal. It was good food. Price for everything (except the lobster) was pretty good. Food tasted amazing for the most part. Typical Chinese customer service. Pay at the front. Massively large portions. Solid authentic Chinese food.

It's honestly perfect for sharing with a few people. The set is very generous, with a well-balanced variety of dishes, and it felt like a great value overall. The food also came out super fast--shortly after we sat down, the dishes started arriving one after another, so there was barely any waiting. The restaurant itself is clean and tidy, from the tables and utensils to the overall dining space, which made the whole experience very comfortable. It's a great spot for family gatherings or a casual meal with friends. As someone from Beijing, being able to enjoy such a familiar Peking duck flavor here in the U.S. was actually a little touching. The aroma of the crispy duck skin and the satisfaction of wrapping everything in a thin pancake instantly brought back that feeling of home. Peking Duck The duck skin was glossy, crispy, and fragrant, while the meat was tender without being dry. Wrapped with thin pancakes, scallions, and sauce, it really tasted like the familiar Beijing flavor I miss. Fish Fillets with Scallion Oil The fish fillets were very tender, and the scallion oil aroma was especially rich. It tasted light and fresh without being greasy, and the sauce paired really well with rice. Black Pork Soup Dumplings Each bite released a burst of soup inside. The filling was savory and flavorful, and the wrapper was thin but held together well. They were delicious served hot. Pea Shoots with Garlic The pea shoots were cooked perfectly tender, with a clear garlic fragrance. They were refreshing and helped balance out the richness of the duck. Chrysanthemum Tea The tea was warm and smooth, and it paired so nicely with the Peking duck. It helped cut through the richness and made the meal feel even more comforting. Garlic Eel Strips The eel strips were very flavorful, with a strong garlic aroma and a smooth, tender texture. This dish is great for anyone who enjoys bold flavors. Rice Cakes and Vermicelli with Shrimp The shrimp tasted fresh, the rice cakes were soft and chewy, and the vermicelli soaked up all the flavorful sauce. It's the kind of dish that makes you keep reaching for more. Overall, this meal was super satisfying. The lunch special is really worth it--the portions are generous, the food comes out quickly, and the flavors are consistently good. Most importantly, it gave me that happy feeling of finding a taste of home while living abroad. If you love Peking duck or Northern Chinese flavors, this place is definitely worth checking out!

(Expect 15 - 20 mins) Parking is abundant, since there are few businesses in this plaza. For starters, my friend and I shared the xiao long bao, popcorn chicken, and beef rolls. Our first item, the popcorn chicken, was divine - medium and fried to perfection, couldn't ask for better! The xiao long bao was next on the list, and these featured a more thick but still chewy skin. Unfortunately, two of ours were served "stuck together" which led to them breaking - sad! The last item, the beef rolls, were amazing as well. Not only is it a timeless classic, but the beef wasn't too dry. Between these tasty bites, we also shared a honey lemon green tea. My friend warned me about these mug sizes, and yes... one is probably enough for a table of four to share! This drink was super sweet, and it was definitely in need of dilution to be drinkable. Once your belly is full, though, good luck getting out! The space inside is fairly tight but nonetheless well worth a visit! Easily one of the best popcorn chicken in town!
