Shkmeruli Chicken and Steak 'n' Mushroom Cheeseboat
Will N.

This was such a cozy spot on a rainy day. It was a Sunday around 2pm and we were alone for the most of our dining. The steak 'n mushroom cheeseboat is a comforting meal without being too heavy. Comes with a really yummy green dipping sauce too. Easily requested a refill. The shkmeruli chicken is really memorable entree mainly because the fresh bread pairs so deliciously with the creamy sauce. I could make entire meal of that combo alone. I wish the chicken is more seasoned, but nonetheless it is cooked well. Very kind workers too. Had to get their attention a couple times though.

Came in for lunch and had the Shkmeruli Chicken. It was a huge portion and was flavorful, tender, and delicious. The homemade bread was also fantastic. Highly recommend coming to check out this spot!

Service was excellent and friendly, shout out to Nick. The food was delicious and a new culinary experience for myself. Shared a lamb dish, eggplant, and cheeseboat. Shot of ChaCha was served in a beautiful cut crystal like glass. The Zelensky cocktail was refreshing and a perfect sweetness.

This is my 2nd time here and I loved it even more than the 1st time. I brought 2 friends with me who would've never had Georgian food if I had not forced them to and they LOVED it!! They actually told me they plan on going back because it's so good. Our plates were basically licked clean! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with making decisions on cocktails to try and foods to share. We ordered family style so that everyone could have a try. We ordered both salads (burrata and Kartvelian salads). I'm quite picky about salads and both were absolutely scrumptious! I would actually go there just for the salads and if you knew me, you know that is something I never ever say. Truly, this food is delicious and if Georgian is out of your comfort zone, you won't be disappointed!

Food 4, happiness and customer service 5. This is a great stop after a Broadway show like we did. We got the traditional cheese boat and the Shkmeruli Chicken dish. The Shkmeruli Chicken was good. The sauce is incredible. I love dipping the bread into it. The chicken itself was a little rubbery. It all looks good, but the chicken didn't really quite hit. We got additional bread and I'm glad we did for three dollars to dip it all into that delicious creamy sauce. Delectable. The traditional cheese boat is so fun. They mix it right in front of you. It is served hot. The bread is delectably soft and airy. The cheese inside and dipping the bread that you rip off into itself is such a fun, creative dish. Really friendly smiley waiters. When walking out I asked about all the pickle jars and they gave me two to try. Very unique flavors and somewhat bitter or vinegar which I really enjoyed.

My husband and I are big fans of Georgian food, so we wanted to try another of the city's Georgian restaurants when we were visiting this past weekend. We were in the area and super excited to try Cheeseboat. And we thought it was great. We had a reservation for a very late lunch (2:30pm) on Sunday. A reservation at that time definitely wasn't necessary (there were only a few other people eating at that time); we were seated immediately. I was immediately charmed - a neon light in the shape of a khachapuri (the "cheeseboat"), cat/Georgian food art, fun posters and decor... Because we hadn't been to Cheeseboat before, we decided to order the classics - Khinkali soup dumplings (6 dumplings of ground beef, Georgian spices, and herbs and served with a traditional Georgian garlic sauce - Niortskali); Kartvelian Salad (tomato, cucumber, red onions, cilantro, herbs, ground walnuts, sunflower seed oil, and Georgian spices); and their traditional "cheeseboat" (Adjaruli khachapuri - cheese, egg yolk, and a pat of butter in a bread boat). We liked everything. The khachapuri was pretty classic and delicious, definitely a food that makes you want to go home and read a book and take a nap under a blanket. The khinkali were also good - and I've had some versions that weren't that great - with plenty of soup and well-flavored filling. This might be weird, but the salad kind of blew my mind and might have been my favorite dish. If you'd said to me before I ate at Cheeseboat, "Do you think making a salad dressing of crushed walnuts is a good idea?" I'd have say no - why would you want mushy walnuts as a dressing? Well, you learn something new everyday, because this salad was incredibly delicious and special. And the walnut dressing was the highlight - it was incredibly flavorful and gave the salad a great texture, too! We had a couple of cocktails, which were both great - mine incorporated chacha (also called Georgian brandy or grape vodka - it's considered Georgia's national drink), which I loved. The service was great, as well. I appreciated that the staff asked if we knew how to eat the dumplings, because I've watched people cut into them with a fork and knife on a plate before and it was one of the saddest things I've seen in a restaurant. They were really helpful, friendly, and attentive. Overall, it just a really good meal - good service, a comfortable restaurant, and great food. I'd be happy to return.

First time having Georgian food, and I'm sold! Restaurant is tucked away in Hell's Kitchen. It feels a bit like a casual jazz bar with some fluorescent lighting, mixture of Georgian cultural pieces scattered throughout, fun cat graphics, and a 'how to' comic about how one properly devours a cheese boat. The music selection was a fun mix of contemporary funk + jazz which added substantially to my personal experience. In terms of food, oh my goodness- the roasted chicken in cream sauce had my heart and stomach from the beginning. I couldn't stop dipping the bread in the sauce even after the cheese boat came. The meat ball cheese boat was decadent and incredibly flavorful. Between those two items, it is the perfect amount of food for two moderately hungry people who skipped lunch. Last thing - I didn't get drinks but really appreciated the notable support of Ukraine vocalized by the drink menu. Overall, 10/10 experience!!! Would recommend!

Khinkali Soup Dumplings

Went here with a friend because we wanted to try some Georgian food. The restaurant itself was clean and aesthetic. Darker more mature vibe. Our server was wonderful. Super attentive, friendly, and good at explaining the dishes to us. We appreciated learning about the ingredients and techniques to make the food. The food itself was great! We ordered the classic Cheeseboat, Khinkali Soup Dumplings, Shkmeruli Chicken, and they brought us the eggplant roulette on the house. Can't go wrong the cheeseboat-- warm carbs and cheese. The soup dumplings were good but personally not my fave. The wrapper felt almost mushy? I'm used to super thin wrappers on dumplings, so even though I know it's supposed to be thick, it felt wrong. The cilantro sauce it came with, however, was wonderful. The sauce on the chicken was also really yummy and the dish came with fresh bread that was wonderful dipped in the extra sauce. The eggplant roulette was absolutely amazing. We both agreed it was our favorite. It has a ton of flavor and was really complex. Never would have ordered it but genuinely so good. Overall loved our dinner and would be back.

Cheeseboat in New York, NY. Come have Mama Cheeseboat cook some authentic Georgian food for you! I never had Georgian cuisine before and it did not disappoint. The fresh flavors were absolutely delicious-especially the CHEESEBOAT! Make sure to try some Georgian wine! Located in Hell's Kitchen and Williamsburg-Cheeseboat has you covered! Kartvelian Salad-Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions with fresh cilantro, herbs, ground walnuts, homemade sunflower seed oil & Georgian spices. Cheeseboat-Classic, traditional Cheeseboat (Adjarian Khachapuri) Caldron of cheese in bread w/ egg and butter. Khinkali Soup Dumplings-Stuffed w/ ground beef, Georgian spices & herbs, served w/ traditional garlic Neeor'tskali sauce. Georgian Lula-Kebab- Ground beef on a skewer cooked with the addition of barberry, which gives freshness and juiciness to the kebab. Served with Tkemali green plum sauce. Napoleon- Very thin decadent puff pastry cake with homemade rich custard cream in between the layers served with sliced fresh strawberries.

The food here is incredible. I've had khachapuri (traditional Georgian cheese boats) at several other restaurants but I've never found another place that does such a unique take on it. Every cheese boat I've ever ordered here has been amazing, and all the other dishes have been fabulous - the khinkali soup dumplings, shkmeruli chicken, and eggplant roulette, to name a few. The magic mushroom cheeseboat is a can't-miss, same with the honeycomb and Brie (I'm not even vegetarian), though you can't go wrong with any of them, they're all so flavorful. The cocktails are also really good, at least all the ones I've tried have been, and the service is great.

Love me some good Georgian food, and this place is great! Came on a Saturday night before the dinner rush, and were seated promptly. QR codes on the table to access menus, which includes pictures and descriptions of all the menu items (super helpful if you're not familiar with Georgian food). Our waiters were very friendly and helpful with suggestions, including teaching us how to eat the khinkali (soup dumplings), which were tasty! We also had the shkmeruli chicken cheeseboat which was soooooo good, and washed it all down with a couple delicious cocktails.

My first time in New York and I found myself in Hell's Kitchen trying a Cheeseboat. It was so delicious and made to order! The Georgian Lemonade was such an expected surprise I loved it! The service was spectacular everyone was so kind and explained everything about the process of how the egg gets mixed in upon arrival to the table. They have such a cute interior. We would've sat outside if it wasn't so hot out. They have a nice bar area too. I highly recommend for anyone in the area! They have several locations

I got to try the Adjaruli khachapuri, Adjaruli ayran, khinkali, and matsoni yogurt, as dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious and very fairly priced, in my opinion. The khachapuri was a Georgian classic, and recommended by the staff. They mixed it right in front of me! Very cheesy, very evenly distributed surprisingly. The edges are buttery and still crispy, my favorite part! You can dip them in the middle as well. Very very good. The khinkali were equally delicious. 4 juicy dumplings with a top that makes them perfect for flipping, drinking the juice, and then eating the whole thing. Staff gave directions on the process! It's still messy, but well worth it. The filling and the soup are so flavorful and tender, just perfect. Earlier, I went to another NYC restaurant to try ayran, and discovered I was obsessed with it, so I ordered it here too. It's supposed to be their Georgian take on it. Not sure how authentic it is, but it was still pretty tasty. I do think I preferred the other place more, but the presentation on this one (came in a clay container, foamy at the top) was great. Finally, I ended the meal with some delicious yogurt as a dessert: Matsoni. Absolutely loved it. Very creamy, slights undertones of sweetness. They added honey and almonds as well. Just perfect. Highly recommend it!
