Well... the bartender was nice? They're calling themselves "Cheers Tiki Bar & Lounge" now, but if you take anything from this review, make it this: This is not a tiki bar. This is why tiki stayed dead for thirty-plus years. Sour mix is a crime and does not belong on a modern bar menu. The Mai Tai was simply not good. The nicest thing our party had to say about our single round was, "I guess I prefer a weak Piña Colada to an overly sweet Piña Colada?" On the upside, at least the drinks were "only" ten dollars. I can't say the combination of blasting music and the overhead lighting of a dentist's office made for a particularly pleasurable environment. We actually went for food because the menu they have posted online looks great. Latin American with a bit of Caribbean influence. Unfortunately their kitchen is being remodeled and will be closed until "next week". Maybe we'll try again at some point and just skip the drinks? (Nah.) read more

Noticed the new sign and thought we'd check out the "tiki" bar at 9:30 on a Friday night. We walked in and my boyfriend was inappropriately frisked and essentially groped by the door staff, worse than a prison guard. We are just a regular unassuming, non-threatening couple. If you need to go to such extremes, maybe you should have a metal detector or have people sign a release agreeing to sexual assault before you even walk in. In the end, between that and the vibe and the fact it wasn't even a tiki bar, we were not comfortable staying. There is nothing tiki about this place. No flaming drinks, no umbrellas, no funny glasses. 5 minutes we can never get back and left feeling violated. read more

Over all I am not upset we came here. The staff was super friendly and the place looked pretty clean. It definitely looked more like a place to hang out at after dark, we went right as they opened. The burger was really tasty and stacked nice! Five stars on the burger; the fries on the other hand were under cooked and limp. Big bummer there as I do love me some fries. Oh well, they had cold beer and plenty of sports on as well as a ton of games from pool and shuffle board to ring swing. Like I said probably way more fun after dark. When arriving, we couldn't find a worker for 5 minutes. As soon as we did, we wanted to order food and drinks. We told her one of us had a shrimp allergy so we'd be ordering the carne asada empanadas. We get the food and I took a bite and they were in fact shrimp empanadas. Thank god the person who is allergic didn't take a bite. The shrimp empanadas were terrible for what it's worth but would have never actually gotten those ($12.50 btw). We asked for a quesadilla instead and but no we then got carne asada empanadas. We were in there for a quick stop so just ate them. There was not a single apology for messing up an order let alone after being told about an allergy. Then the bill came and they charged us for the shrimp empanadas and the carne asada even though they made the mistake and gave us the wrong item. I would quite literally never recommend this place to anyone. There was also a man so belligerent he could not walk. The ambiance was a below par dive bar. We have driven past this place for years thinking it could be a fun neighborhood dive bar and it's absolutely horrible. read more

Cheers has new owners!!! After 40 years this place was due for a face lift and it's happening! The new owners are making improvements every day and the place already feels cleaner and brighter. The kitchen is even open and the food is actually good. Their menu features bar food with a Mexican spin. The street tacos are to die for and the tequila selection is massive. Great job with the remodeling, it's really nice and clean in there now! I wouldn't go into the old establishment but heard it had new ownership and was really impressed. Great service, food, TVs everywhere, and 4 pool tables. A lot of times businesses will say new ownership/management but nothing really changes. Was not the case with the new Cheers! read more

New owners are making the place look more modern and love the new entertainment. But unfortunately by letting go of your old staff and adding new staff does not meet with the changes they are making. Food has a good taste but it can be better and at longest they keep the same kitchen staff and not be switching over and over again. Owner needs to make sure their staff does not get disrespected by customers and when they get kick out from the bar to make sure they are not welcome back again. If I could give this place zero stars, I would!! Myself and a friend went in on March 16th for some drinks and check out what the new ownership had done. Service was slow at best, and the chips and guacamole were horrible. We split the check and 50/50 with an 8 dollar tip on 36. They stole from me by charging my card 40 extra dollars!! I disputed the charge and the gave the credit card company an altered receipt! Go here if you want to get ripped off!!!!! read more

They fired the best bartender they had for a kid who has no personality. We all left to a better and "cheaper" place! It's great! By the way don't eat posada on a week night. Manager takes no suggestions as I think he'll run it into the the ground. Atmosphere is bad. read more

We stopped here for a snack on our way back from the mountains. GuyZ FuZion...We had the wonton nachos it's delicious and brisket sliders. Appetizer was very good - wings spicy but not too spicy and the lamb tacos were excellent. The bartender who was our server was excellent and friendly, knowledgeable. My friend and I visited J.L. Cheers a couple weeks ago before going to a movie. We thought that they had food, but all they offered were personal pizzas. The place was pretty dingy and only a few people were there to play poker. The drink prices seemed pretty decent. They were not expensive but were not cheap. They have drink specials every night, but they had only 3 or 4 different draft beers. I was somewhat peeved because the bartender/waitress took a long time to take care of me, despite the bar being very slow, and although she acknowledged me as soon as I walked into the bar. She got a drink for another guy who came in about 5 minutes after me and was clearly a regular. She then shouted from across the bar, "Hey, I need to see your ID" after I had been there for 10 minutes. Then, when I walked all the way over to the bar and showed her my license, she made a comment about how I didn't look old enough to drink. I am 25 and look young. I expect to be ID'd, but I would prefer that it is done with some professional courtesy, such as asking for my drink order and then IDing me. I'm sure there are plenty of other bartenders/servers who are more professional, but it didn't set a good tone for my visit. I will probably go to a different place next time. read more

Went here last night at the recommendation of (okay, so, I was dragged here) my boyfriend. He's a regular there so the bartender talked to us more than others and probably provided better service than the average person (fine with me). Super divey bar, women's bathroom door seemed to be about 2/3rds the size of a regular door.. They do have a nice jukebox and the prices seemed to be about the same as anywhere else. This place could accommodate a way larger crowd than what was actually there (I'm assuming that's pretty average) Overall, it's all right. Not the coolest, sleekest, most interesting place, but the people are friendly enough and I can't really complain to much about it. read more

What is now a dive used to be one of the best bars in Denver. Back then it was called "Sweetwater" - and it was the nationally known place where people would throw bricks through a television set whenever Howard Cosell's face would come on the screen during Monday night football. Everybody in the country (except Cosell) used to talk about it. Some really great local bands used to play there too. I remember one night when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band came in to jam with Barry Fey's band, the Flyers, one of the really great "house" bands at Sweetwater. Everybody good used to play there back in the mid-late '70s. It's a sad little dive now, but it has a lot of Denver music history. Have a drink and savor the memories. read more

Terrible. Mean Angry regulars, sketchy poker games, owner doesn't care what happens in his bar. Cajun Mac and Cheese is amazing! But that's a separate business and they close early! Lots of Quarter pool tables but the Pool sticks are terrible. Women's Bathroom is dirty and often find empty shooters on the floor. My local spot. Within walking distance from my home...which is a huge plus. This place is obviously a locals only spot. Not crowded, which is great for the days you want to sit at a bar, sip a beer, and not be bothered. It is pretty divey, not hipster divey, not ghetto divey, not crowded popular divey, just low key divey. Always pretty good tunes. Drinks are reasonably priced. Staff always friendly and will remember you if you show up more than 3 times a year. read more

This place was a dive bar but not in a terrible way. It reminded me of a local bar you'd typically see in the 90s. Wasn't sure if there was a kitchen or not, was never offered a menu.
