One of the best brunches I've had in Seattle so far! We got seated immediately, which was nice, and ordered fast. I got the country fried steak that came with hash browns and a biscuit. The gravy was very tasty and breading was nice and spicy. Very very good. My boyfriend got the cheeky French toast with berries which was to die for (he won the meal with his selection). Buttery and crispy... so good! We also got the fry bread which I expected to be like Indian fry bread but was more like donuts yet (obviously) still delicious cause fried dough. I'm so glad I found this place - and on such short notice too. Had some family friends in town and this was the perfect brunch spot for us foodies. You can easily find street parking in this area. Normally I'm a bit hesitant about fusion foods and firmly believe they are a hit or miss (as good as some dishes are.. they are good alone and should be left alone!) BUT I could not be more satisfied with everything we tried here. I didn't have much expectations for the Spicy Mac but it was by far my favorite. Kim chi and Mac and cheese are easily in my top ten favorite foods and I never knew they could taste so beautifully together. It was SO flavorful and such a great combination together. I would come back just for this no hesitation. The cheeky French toast was like no French toast I've ever tried before, with a berry filling INSIDE, served with a side of eggs and bacon. Very crispy as French toast should be, and unique. As much as anyone will tell me how wildly inappropriate pasta is for brunch, the carbonara was pleasant to eat and I enjoyed it just as much as any of the other dishes. The only problem I had with the Loco Moco meatloaf was that it is a tad under seasoned, which was a surprise to me considering how flavorful every other dish was. Or maybe, being the Asian I am, I am accustomed to extreme salty meats with my food? This is such a great hidden gem!!! I've lived in this area for years and driven by this place, but never been or knew much about it. I've been craving a burger so gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised! It was a great burger, yummy sweet potato fries, and good portions at a great price. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Great place for weekend brunch with friends. Was looking for a place that could take reservations and accommodate a group of us around 8 ppl and this was a gem to find! Always nervous about finding street parking in Seattle but had no trouble at 11am on a Sunday. We ended up having an additional 2 more people more than planned but they were able to fit us all in comfortably. Soooooo good! This cute little brunch cafe is tucked away in a residential area, and the cafe itself is very warm and homey, perfect for a rainy day like the Saturday I visited. There's a decent amount of seating inside. A good deal of people ordered take out as well. I ordered a loco moco, and although I don't have much to compare to, I was really impressed. The meatloaf was different from what I expected since it was presented in two strips rather than just one giant chunk of meat. The gravy really brought the dish home. It's a light colored gravy and was perfectly savory. It has more of an Asian taste as compared to American gravy. Our visit to the restaurant was for a Friday evening dinner and, though we do not often attempt the commute downtown during rush hour, the experience our group had at the establishment was definitely worth the trip. As for myself, and being a bit of a connoisseur or stickler of curry dishes, it was inevitable that my order would be the curry rice. Now, a majority of people would argue that the curry served at Cheeky Cafe is not Japanese at all because of its lack of thickness and rich color, but do not let the pictures deter you from ordering the dish. Although a bit odd, the curry rice dish reminded me of a pork and potato dish my grandmother frequently made for our family. Each of the ingredients within the dish complemented each other quite nicely and, although it was not as spicy as we had hoped, there was brief kick of spiciness after each mouthful of beef and potatoes. The dish appealed to me the greatest among the dishes we ordered probably because of nostalgic qualities as well as its amazing taste. Lastly, the okonomiyaki was absolutely orgasmic. If we had not been filled up from the rest of our entrees, we would have definitely ordered at least two or three dishes of the okonomiyaki. Although we would like to offer a better explanation of what the dish contains specifically, none of us would have been able to give you an exact answer. And in the time it would have taken you to ask us, we would have probably stolen your okonomiyaki and would have eaten it all before you got an answer. As for advice on what to order, start of with an order of Grandma Kam's dumplings unless you truly feel the need for calamari. Both dishes are good, but you can get calamari at any restaurant in Seattle and how could you turn down a house specialty? In addition, the restaurant is still relatively new so go now while parking is fairly easy and while wait times are virtually nonexistent because there is no doubt in my mind that this place will get quite busy in a few weeks when word gets out. I went to Cheeky with some friends for brunch today. I almost didn't go... I'm sure glad I did! I had the Cheeky French Toast and the Meatloaf Loco Moco. The only word I can think of to describe Cheeky's french toast is "ridiculous". The french toast is deep fried, stuffed with pastry cream plus your choice of filling (I chose chocolate and banana). The unorthodox fried preparation makes for a nice crunchy/gooey texture combo that I have not encountered at any other establishment. To me, french toast is the benchmark for a brunch place...if your french toast is pedestrian, I probably won't be back. Based on the french toast alone I will be making return visits to Cheeky. The Meatloaf Loco Moco was also delightful. For anyone familiar with Loco Moco, you know its pretty hard to improve on this island classic. Cheeky has remixed Loco Moco with spicy meatloaf and bacon strips in place of the standard hamburger patty. The meatloaf is a welcomed addition as it adds an extra element of punched up flavor/spice that a standard patty just can't do. In addition, I tried the cream puff. The offering of the day was a puff filled with blueberry cream and a red wine reduction. I'm usually not one for cream puffs but wow...the sweetness/smooth coolness of the blueberry cream, coupled with the bitterness of the red wine reduction made for palette pleasing bitter/sweet flavor. The owner (May) was also gracious enough to kick in a scoop of the house made green tea sorbet. I'm not much of a sorbet guy (love gelato and froyo too much) but this sorbet was pleasantly light/fluffy...not at all hard and crystalized which is what I usually find. I had the opportunity to chat with the owner for a few minutes. I asked her about the concept of the restaurant....she described it as "nostalgic eating" which I like and think they totally nailed. Some of the dishes on the menu, I can see my mom or aunt making for me as a child. I guess if I'm ever feeling old, I can pop into Cheeky to have a Marty McFly moment and be transported back to childhood instantaneously. Everything was good but not spectacular. It's hard to explain. The meals taste home-cooked, and if I had made the meal at home I'd be happy, but at a restaurant I expected more. It's odd because some of the dishes I tried were new to me, like the Okonomiyaki. But it just wasn't my style. I came here a few weeks ago for brunch with some friends. We were greeted by our friendly server. Very soft spoken. At times I had to lean in to hear what he was saying but it's all good. Maybe he's not hard of hearing and I'm just losing my hearing since I'm aging. I ordered the loco moco and added spam and egg. It was so good! I'm not a big gravy person so I was happy that the loco moco wasn't filled with tons of gravy. Awesome flavor and definitely a hearty meal. I wasn't able to finish it. I've been to Cheeky about 3 times and I swear it just gets better with each visit. The first time I came in was about 2 years ago. The menu was pretty limited back then (unless I am remembering wrong) but I remember ordering the pulled pork with mango salsa (it's all about the mango, always). I remember thinking it was okay, didn't exactly warrant another visit. The second time I came in was probably a year ago and even then the menu didn't strike me as overwhelming. I remembered I ordered the chicken salad sandwich because I had been on a chicken salad kick (I'm weird, don't mind me). My sister ordered the chicken wings, one of her absolute favorites. And the third time, ala today, my sister and I couldn't agree on a lunch spot so she threw out Cheeky and it was a best option. The menu was huge this time around! I loved that there was such a large selection (maybe I hadn't been in a long time and that's why I was excited). I ordered the BELT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, egg) and it was delicious. My mom ordered the pork and liked it, my sister got the curry and said it was a little bland. She was pretty bummed that they didn't have the chicken wings today. This place is pretty confusing at first. They serve an array of dishes from Pasta Carbonara to Loco Moco to Kimchi Mac 'n Cheese. Got past that and ordered all three of those off for delivery and enjoyed every morsel that I could shovel into my mouth. The Pasta Carbonara is very flavorful and the bacon is perfect for this dish. Pasta cooked well and arrived not mushy is always a plus for delivery. I was once again on a quest to find okonomiyaki in Seattle when a Google search turned up the Yelp entry for Cheeky Cafe. And though it was a bit of a hike from my locationat at the time, I can confidently say that I was not disappointed. Cheeky Cafe is a small corner restaurant that seemed a lot larger once you are inside. Judging from how they handled the gaggle of students that arrived shortly after me, they have no problem with large groups. It has a warm, soft decor that made me think of springtime dresses and Easter Sunday brunches. They seem to have a decently long and varied lunch menu; despite the fact that I already knew what I wanted, there were several other dishes that looked appealing. Which brings me of course, to the food. The Osaka-style okonomiyaki was fabulous, though in the interests of full disclosure okonomiyaki is perhaps my favorite Japanese food and it had been years since I had last had it, so I may be biased! Its flavor seemed perfect. My only knock on it is that its texture seemed a little too doughy, as if the batter contained a bit too much flour. For desert, I decided to try their banana tart, which consisted of chocolate, bananas and cream layered atop a flaky pastry crust. Not having much of a sweet tooth, I didn't expect to be able to finish it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had just the right amount of sweet balanced perfectly by the crust. I was also happy to see reasonable portions sized for a single person, rather than a party of five. Their prices were also surprisingly affordable. The okonomiyaki, for example, was only $6. Try this hidden gem in the CD. Cutest decor ever! I've only been here for brunch, but everything is awesome. Try the chicken fried steak, meatloaf loco moco, spam and eggs, and my new fave, the chicken and the egg. CATE is like the Spanglish sandwich (BLT with egg) with Cheeky's homemade chicken patty. The espresso beverages are good here, too. They make their own caramel sauce for the lattes. As for desserts, I've tried the melon riesling sorbet (you better like wine if you get this) and the cream puff with a plum and wine reduction. The wait staff is super friendly and very accommodating to children. Every single time I've been here, they have been willing to split a dish into two plates for my goddaughters. But there is a separate children's menu. One last thing -- If you are fan of biscuits (or baked goods in general), order a biscuit with jam on the side. So while you are perusing the menu they bring out tasty fried wonton with a lovely little sauce. Crunchy and yummy. I could see these being shaken up in some cinnamon and sugar as a dessert. I opted to get the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich but I was really interested in the Bacon Meatloaf but that seemed a bit heavy on that summer day. The pork is juicy and succulent with a nice tasty sauce not to much and not to little. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and just right on the inside. Not mushy at all. My sweetie opted for the Kimchi Mac and Cheese and said it had quite a kick (which he loves) and veggie wraps which he said were flavor explosions in his mouth. My first visit here. Ordered the balsamic marinated mushrooms and spinach salad. Mushrooms are fried and served on skewers. The breading is nice; crispy and herby. The mushrooms are juicy and you can taste the tang from the time they spent marinating in the balsamic. Very yummy :) Spinach salad comes with feta, cranberries, and bits of mandarin orange in a vinaigrette. I added chicken as well. Very well balanced flavor from the salad and the chicken was cooked nicely. The salad doesn't even need the meat and I don't say that often. The ambiance is very comfortable, it smells great in here, and the service is good. If I lived closer I would be here more often :) read more

A-okay. Came here on a Sunday and was seated quickly. I ordered the bacon, lettuce, tomatoe, sandwich w/ the chicken patty. It came with a side of sweet potato fries. Portion-wise, definitely enough food and the food here is on the heartier/heavy side. My friend got the regular french toast and it came w/ eggs and some bacon. Service was friendly. Overall, a good place, but nothing really stood out too much and it may just personal preference, but it was a bit greasy for my normal tastes. Once in a while is fine, and definitely be prepared for hearty food. read more
