Came here on a Saturday evening with about an hour before close around 8PM and they close around 9PM. I think they had a lot of people come in and asked if we could be sat at the bar which we complied. I was told this was the original CheeBurger. There used to be some other franchises, but this is the original. I ordered the island time cheeseburger, which had guacamole and a pineapple inside it was a very juicy burger and quite good. I also ordered a mango milkshake, which was also very tasty. On the screen, they had Savannah Bananas playing, which was quite entertaining, and the burger was actually really good. Cooked well tasted really great but I was also pretty hungry since it was around 8PM. A friend ordered some onion rings and fries. Those onion rings are addicting. Who doesn't love a good burger!?! I grew up eating Cheeburger Cheeburger, so when I found out that the original Cheeburger Cheeseburger was located in Sanibel, I knew this was a must-do on our trip. The restaurant gives off old diner vibes but in a contemporary, open-concept setting. They have some fun photo ops like a motorcycle, red Corvette, and other nostalgic paraphernalia. There was even a life-size rock-n-roll Elvis. We came on a Friday evening, about an hour before closing, and they were swamped. We were seated at the bar for quick service - they had just finished the dinner rush and didn't have any clean tables available. Bar service was excellent and the bartender gave us some great nuggets about Sanibel. There were several sports games playing on the different screens. I did the build-your-own burger and got the classic 6-oz. patty with all the standard toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles), cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce. I do remember them offering more free toppings back in the day... but I recognize that times and the economy have changed. They do have several other premium toppings available for an upcharge. The burger is served on a brioche bun and they didn't ask about burger temperature. The burger meat itself was nicely cooked and nicely seasoned. Aside from the cookery and seasoning of the burger patty (which they nail), with the ability to customize the toppings, cheese, and sauces, you really have no one to blame but yourself for the flavor of the burger... I don't know about y'all, but mine was delicious ;). They also have some local favorite recommendations, such as the island burger which comes with pineapple and guacamole. I love, love, loveeeee the onion rings at Cheeburger Cheeburger - they are my absolute favorite! I got the double-serving to share with the group, and they were as good as I remembered them to be. The batter is light and crisp - every ring is the perfect bite. Pro tip: Add some onion rings to your burger for a little crunch. (This was actually one of the toppings that they used to offer back in the day... but now it's DIY.) The hand-cut fries are good too, but I'm all about these onion rings. I didn't get a milkshake and now I have FOMO... next time, for sure. Malt versions are also available. Cheeburger Cheeburger, I miss you already. Happy hour is from 3-6pm at the bar (drink and appetizer specials), and they offer a military discount to honor those who have served. read more

Stopped here because we didn't know where else to go and we were tired of driving around hitting dead ends on the island. Lol. Food was just average (cheeseburgers, pretzel sticks, chicken tenders), but the prices were reasonable and they give you a huge glass for the drinks. Our server was hard to find after we ordered. He seemed overwhelmed with just a few tables. Forgot our fries, sauce, etc. By that time we got them we were almost done with our meals. The restaurant was clean but 80% of the tables were filled with parties with kids (most of them screaming and/out out of control). Must be on a "good for kids" list. I walked into the restaurant on a Friday night around seven. I liked that the place had a fun college feel to it. The front section was full of people, although there were still some tables available. The waitress asked if we wanted to sit in that area or more towards the back where it was quieter. We chose a table in the back, behind the bar. It was much quieter there, so my daughter and I could actually have a conversation. The service was great and the food was served at a good temperature. I ordered the Impossible burger with everything on it. I substituted a pretzel roll for the brioche and for an up-charge, it certainly wasn't worth it. The pretzel roll was tiny, especially for the size of the burger. The fries tasted great - reminded me of Broadway Fries from back in the day. Honestly, I had low expectations for this restaurant and expected it to be greasy and unappealing. It's got a 50s diner decor and layout and was immaculately clean and new (post storm renovation). The servers were all friendly and on top of things - no issues there. The food wasn't bad at all and I really enjoyed their nachos. The fish tacos and fish sandwich were a hit as well. What an eclectic combination of themes and great food here! This restaurant has been on Sanibel for decades, and even survived Hurricane Ian (although major renovations were necessary). It's got a 50s diner, old town vibe to it. Burgers, milkshakes, floats, and giant sodas. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the staff were quite friendly and each we talked to had been long-time employees. That says something about a business. Wow!! Stopped here after our beach day on Captiva because we were drawn in by the name "cheeburger cheeburger." What does it mean? I still don't know! Anyways, after parking in the spacious strip mall lot, we were greeted by clean retro decor, the kind you want to see in a place known for its burgers and shakes. Our waitress, Pamela, was very informative. She helped guide our decision making on sauces and what servings to get of the fries. A single is good for 2 people! I ordered a classic burger with American cheese, tomato, lettuce, and the signature burger sauce. I thought it was really good! I also had the brownie batter milkshake, also great. The sweet potato fries were even better, especially dipped in the signature burger sauce. The food came out quick, the portions were great, and the proved even better. We have visited Cheeburger Cheerburger since we were kids vacationing on Sanibel, and the charm is definitely still the same as adults. This is a spot that is worth visiting while you are in the area. The original location is on the island, and though the franchise expanded across the country, I believe that this location is one of the only left-- and it maintains its special vibes. The burgers are delicious and the menu is extensive with options for several sandwiches and sides. You will definitely want to get a milkshake, and you'll need a minute to read over all of the flavors and make the difficult choice of which one to get. we enjoyed the Sanibel hot chicken and the half pounder burger, along with fries and milkshakes. The little touches like the kids meals served in classic car containers and the wall of fame for the burger challenge make the experience really fun. I did only rate our experience as three stars for a couple of reasons. First, we had a group of nine adults, and we were not able to be seated together. We had to be seated at two tables across the aisle from another and not talk to our entire party. I was surprised that at such large and well-known establishment on the island, they are not able to accommodate groups of more than six. Second, none of the handhelds or burgers come with fries. The menu makes it seem that you can order a side of fries, so everyone at the table did. However, the side of fries was quite large... We ended up with way too many fries for the amount of people that we had. I wish the sandwiches would come with fries, or that the menu would make it clear that the side of fries could feed more than one person. Lastly, we ordered our shakes after our meals to have for dessert while chatting. However, they took about 30 extra minutes after we were done eating to come out, and one was missing when they did come out. Our waitress was very apologetic and kind, and we didn't mind sitting, but it would have been an issue if we needed to get somewhere else after eating. Despite the small issues, we really enjoyed the nostalgic experience of eating here and would be back. Cheeburger is located on Sanibel Island and has been a staple in our family for years. They have changed location over the past few years and we have been coming here since their original location on the island. Last year when the hurricane came through, luckily they did not get much damage but they went ahead and remodeled. I would love to say that they have since improved but sadly this was not the case. As I said, we have been coming for years but it might be put on hold for a bit. Their remodel has now included a bar area when you first come in. It is actually really pretty, big bar with stools, TVs and fully stocked. It is very much needed on busy nights or just to stop in for a drink. They also redid the floors and the décor in the restaurant. It feels very bright and open now. I really do like the new design. We had a party of 5, and luckily came at the right time and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The server was literally the best part of the experience. Pam was by far phenomenal and honestly the only reason this is a 3 and not a 1. The service was incredibly slow, we waited almost an hour for our food, we just ordered burgers and a fry basket to share. When the food finally came out, my mom's burger was missing. At this point we were so over the meal, she just asked to have it taken off the menu and shared a burger with my sister. Pam told us that there were new cooks in the kitchen and again was incredibly apologetic about the wait, we did not blame her, but it was still way to long to wait for hamburgers. For food, we ordered, the fried pickles. These also took forever, and we eventually asked Pam to go and grab them. We were all very hungry and starting to feel sick almost. They did come out extremely hot and they were very good. We had never ordered an appetizer here but these were delicious. For entrees, we all order a burger or cheeseburger. We all had different toppings on them, and different cheese. In the past, you were able to choose your bun, and they had about 30 toppings to choose from. They have changed their menu and reduced this a lot. There were only a handful of toppings and only one style of bun. I did miss this part and preferred the old menu. The burgers were just ok. They were all misshaped, some more round and some more flat. They were all supposed to be the same size, but it was just not consistent. They were also extremely greasy. We were very confused as to why a burger was so incredibly greasy. We all commented that we never had a burger which was just incredibly full of grease. We also ordered a basket of their fries. Their fries are always good and just complement their burgers. Overall, I am not sure if this will be a yearly visit moving forward. They are just so classic in our books but it seems they need to get some staffing correct before we will go back. The service was spot on but the kitchen crew needed help. They sent out one table at a time and literally sent the table out about 1-15 minutes apart. For a place that just sells mostly burgers, its what they are known for and in their name, they should be busting them out. Throw a ton of burgers down, the restaurant was fully packed. Recently my wife and the of the family had an early dinner at Cheeburger Cheeburger, located on Sanibel Island. We haven't been here in two years, so we were looking forward to returning. Cheeburger Cheeburger is a family -friendly restaurant, serving build your-own burgers, salads & shakes, in a vintage 1950s setting. Once we arrived and checked in with the hostess, we waited about 10 minutes. As we were waiting I noticed that they did some remodeling. They now offer a full bar, which wasn't something they offered two years ago. After we were seated our served came and greeted us warmly. Our servers name was Pam. Since it's been two years we weren't ready to order yet, but all of us either ordered an unsweet iced tea or a water. Pam came back few minutes later and we were ready. To start with we decided to share an order of fried pickles and a basket of hand cut fries. -Entrees: * I ordered an the famous half pound burger ( 8 oz), for toppings I decided on getting pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, sautéed mushrooms* My wife got the classic burger (6 oz) for toppings she got cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomato* My father-in-law order a classic burger, no cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles* mother-in-law and sister-in-law order a classic burger, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles. After we placed our orders, the wait began. The restaurant was pre busy when we at down at our table, and noticed a lot of tables were waiting on food. So we kinda knew it would take a little bit to get our burgers. 15 to 20 minutes passed by and we haven't received our fried pickles. Our server Pam had been helping serve drinks at the bar during this time. She did make her rounds and came to our table and saw that we haven't gotten our appetizer. Pam was apologetic, absolutely wonderful. She explained that the cooks were new and trying to get a handle on things. She said it's no excuses at all, but that's why we and essentially everyone had been experiencing this. I felt bad for Pam and all the servers. 10 mins later Pam came with our fried pickles. The pickles were hot, nicely salted and had a nice crunch. After another 25/ 30 minutes, the burgers and fries came to the table. All looked good until we noticed my mother-in-laws order wasn't made..... Pam came to check on us and before we could mention it she noticed her order was missing . She once again was absolutely nice and apologized profusely. We asked Pam to tell them not to bother bringing it. We cut our burgers in half and just shared everything. Pam came back and said she would take of several things from our bill. I thought that was nice of her. The burgers were ok at best... Definitely had a little more grease than we were use to, having eaten here before. The fries were also just ok... could've been warmer and seasoned a little more. All in all Pam was the best part of our dinner. Couldn't have asked for a better server. She was in an unfortunate position. Non of this was a servers fault but she handled this like a champion. Our server Pam was very attentive, friendly & awesome! When the rest of the people at my table didn't like the taste of the water. Pam immediately took the ice waters away and replaced them with bottled water and a cups. Also one of the guests st my table didn't get the condiments on the burger (which was just unintentionally left off back in the kitchen) Our very accommodating server made sure to go back to the kitchen and immediately returned with his requested burger fixings. We were talking with her about music and how we liked the blues, she was very kind to call up a very talented artist on her phone and we were able to listen to the music a bit while eating our food. We thought that was really cool! Our burgers were perfectly prepared. I am the only one that didn't want cheese on my burger and she got that spot on too. She suggested that we get their half & half onion rings/french fries for us at our table to share. Great suggestion! We enjoyed both of them. Onions were crispy & not greasy whole French fries were also yummy! We had a couple of people order milkshakes to go and they were very pleased with them as well. Right before we left Pam brought out a surprise dessert of a chocolate fudge brownie with whipped cream with bits of blueberries & strawberries. Really tasty and pretty. Chee Burger Chee Burger Sanibel 6-6-24 We walked in at 4:14 pm on a Thursday afternoon. They were not busy and sat us at a table immediately. This place was clean, neat and had a great 50's vibe. Our waiter Adam came over fast and asked what we wanted to drink. We looked over the menu and decided on a milk shake to start with. I got the Chocolate; my wife got the Strawberry our friends got the Vanilla. We all ordered them thick. Adam came back with our drinks quickly and took our food order. I Ordered the 6 oz classic burger well done with Swiss Cheese, Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes and Pickles and so did our friends. We got a single order of hand cut fries for our side to share as did our friends. I love hand cut fries as they have skins on them, and they are hard to find in this area. These burgers also came with a small cup of Cole Slaw. Our shakes arrived and we started in on them. They looked good with whipped cream and a cherry on top. They were good but not great. They looked big but really were not. They were not as thick as we liked them. Our food came out and the burger was done perfectly. It tasted very good and every item on our burgers tasted fresh and looked good. Our fries were another story. Both orders of Fries looked so brown as they were way over done, they were hard to eat as you can see by the added pictures. We could not finish the Fries they were just too hard to eat. When Adam came back to check on us, we talked to him about the Fries, and he said he would take them off the bill or get us another order of fries, we said no. He said he would get us some to go but we were done eating and did not want to take any with us. How can you screw up Fries? I live in a different city but heard good things and wanted to try this place out for an anniversary lunch and online shows they are open everyday besides Mondays, so we made the drive all the way to Sanibel just to see the place was empty and doors locked with new hours posted on the door saying they are closed Tuesdays now as well; It should be updated online for the people who aren't local so that doesn't happen. Have driven by on prior visits, but because we come down here with our fur baby, we usually go out to places with outdoor seating options. This time we finally tried and got take out. I'll mention that the decor inside looks clean and fun, and staff was very friendly. I had the Hot chicken sandwich, which was memorable (generous and tasty). Wifey had the chiliheese fries, which were a bit bland (but generous, and packed thoughtfully for take out).
