Service: 5/5 Jada was an excellent server! She was welcoming, prompt and attentive. Ambiance: 3/5 Standard restaurant decor, with plenty of tables and booths to support various party sizes. Food: 3/5 My cocktail was okay (Pain Killer). It was a little too thick to drink alongside of my meal. The honey butter croissants were the star of the meal. They were warm and delicious! The ribs were another highlight, they were falling off the bone and tasted so good. I also enjoyed the broccoli cheddar casserole and the fried shrimp. I didn't particularly care for the green beans because they had a sweetness to them and I prefer savory green beans. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed my meal. Cheddar's offered a lasting impression, as this was my first visit. I definitely plan to return in the future. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by a few couples so we made the long drive for date night. This is a chain restaurant with a hometown feel to it. The waiting time for a booth was short and we were greeted quickly upon entering. It is a quieter restaurant with comfortable seating. I checked Yelp before ordering for favor filled options in the reviews. We both ordered rib combos with the broccoli and cheese casserole, and a side salad. The ribs were meaty and seasoned well. Very tender and almost fell off of the bone. The broccoli cheese casserole was amazing! It was full of flavor and cheese l, perfection. The side salad was extremely fresh, tasty, and it was large. The salad was so fresh, we ate it before our yummy ribs and ended up too full to finish the entree. We heard a lot about the honey butter crossiants but we were not impressed and after a few bites we decided not to waste calories on them. Maybe they are usually better but not on that night. The restaurant decor is interesting, kind of a cross between Longhorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse, nothing stood out but it was clean and tidy. I would make the drive again for the great food. I would have given it 5 stars but the service was just okay, the decor was blah, and the presentation of the food was a little better than fast food. read more

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen - Comfort Food Near Me - Newport News, Virginia

I was excited to eat at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen because I thought it was a local restaurant, only to find out it is a chain restaurant like Applebee's. I don't think anything is made from scratch at the scratch kitchen. Instead, the scratch stands for scratch it off the menu. A person in my group ordered a beer only to find out that they did not have it, so they went with their second choice, which they did not have either, and had to go with their third choice. I got chicken fried steak and it showed up without gravy. We found out that they scratched that off the menu and did not have gravy. Wish they would've said something before I ordered the food. The waiter told us we were lucky. They had burgers since they scratched those off the menu yesterday. our server was nice, so I guess that was the best part of eating there read more

Whomever the young lady was that was bringing out food and decided to answer me by say "I dont know girl," was very disrespectful and derogatory. The customer service was already poor as the party was large 13 people to be exact and the staff claimed the party was mistakenly removed from the wait list and to top it off we the party moved our own tables together. So from management on down to wait staff service is HORRIBLE. This will be the last time I drive from Suffolk to this Newport News location as it's not worth the money. Rude Rude Rude and the food orders came out all WRONG or not at all. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT. read more

Had a great time at cheddars took the kids to dinner the menu lax for nothing. I ordered the beer, battered fried shrimp with a loaded, baked potato and the green beans my daughter had the fried fish or deficient shrimp platter, and my son did a cheesesteak but the only complaint we had was my daughter said the lemonade. The strawberry lemonade was watered down like it didn't have the flavor that it should have. I received a fork that look like it have been bent up almost cut my mouth cause I didn't look at it so you'll see that in the photos as well but other than that the service was great. Our server was amazing very attentive. That was it other than that. I'd go back if I'm if I find myself on that side of the water to Henry Mall again I will attend a cheddars bill. read more

Hardly my first or even 10th visit here over the years, I decided a review was due. We were seated in the bar area. I prefer the bright environs of the main dining room but today was ok in the bar. One favorite is the complimentary iced croissants. Yum! I ordered unsweet tea and it was nicely brewed! I ordered the monte cristo, always my favorite. I asked my friends to make sure I don't order it again. It is nicely deep fried but it is too much sandwich. I subbed the fries for soup. The potato soup was thick like glue with potatoes, bacon and cheese. I only ate a few bites. Our food came out quickly with some wrong items our server corrected. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Cheddars is always a pleasant dining experience with some good meal deals and variety of food choices. I took away a star because my food selections were disappointing, but next time I will make different choices. read more

Have been back a few times this past year and always have a good experience. We mostly order the same items and always enjoy them! The triple treat sampler with the cheese dip, spinach dip tortilla chips and chicken tenders. All so good as well as the buffalo chicken wrap. And the veggie plate! all yummy! We came to Cheddar's for dinner. Their menu has a wide variety from appetizers (spinach dip, onion rings, chicken tenders), salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, steaks and seafood from grilled salmon to shrimp. I got the vegetable plate with green beans, a baked potato, red beans and rice and a broccoli casserole. Red beans and rice were OK. Beans were not spicy rice tasted like Minute rice. Typical green beans southern style. Hubs got the cheeseburger was good others had the buffalo wraps. Salads are fresh. Service was good. Ambience is very casual and servers were friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. read more

First time going to this establishment and the food was amazing. We had a issue with our order not being delivered to their system (we ate in). We watched 3 tables get there food consume it and leave and we still had not received ours. The Manager Markus came around and asked how we were and we stated "disappointed " because we had been waiting for over an hour and still had not received any food. He went to check on it and 20 more minutes went by before we finally received our food I asked for it to be boxed up. The Manager came out and apologized for the wait and stated that they had an issue with their system uploading the order, I was upset but Mr Markus corrected everything and made it RIGHT. I will be going back because getting back home and eating dinner the food was great and the croissants was off the chain soft and buttery. Markus and Cheddar thank you and we will be coming back. We had the meatloaf, broccoli casserole and fried white fish , shrimp and loaded baked potatoes as I stated the food was delicious and the problem was corrected, things do happen unexpectedly read more

The restaurant itself has decent decorations, but small seating at the booths and tables. Our waitress was very attentive and refilled my drinks as it became almost empty. The cooks however must of been off their game since the food was cooked wrong. My girlfriend's country fried steak had brown gravy instead of white gravy and then my steak was supposed to be medium rare , but this is raw. Good thing I cut my steak and look at it before eating it. They however took 5 minutes to correct my girlfriend's order and took 3 minutes to correct my order. read more

We entered the restaurant on a very busy night. There looked to be only a few servers on the floor. Our server was training another young lady, they tagged team those tables and they were great. their names were Tasha and Tanaya! The food was excellent and the ambience was great. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was well worth it. We were a party of 8 which turned into a party of 11 very quickly, but our servers took it in stride and did the job well. The restaurant was mediocre. I definitely recommend getting there early on the weekends because it gets packed! You can't make reservations but you can call ahead. The food was a hit or miss. The salmon was good, but dry. The fried fish didn't have any seasoning and came out undercooked. The green beans had a weird sweet taste. The cookie dessert had the consistency of cake and didn't have a lot of flavor. The carrot cake was great and moist. The only item that was delicious were the croissants. Avoid the alcoholic drinks. I don't think they had any alcohol in them! The service was horrible. The waitress barely checked on us. When we had to return our food, she didn't expedite the order so it took forever to get our food. The ambiance was family style. The restaurant was packed but it's very spacious. read more

It was our first time dining at Cheddar's for a family dinner last night. The decor was homey and cozy. The onion rings were cooked to a golden brown, and the trio of appetizers was great--especially the spinach dip and chicken tenders. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger without pickles, but my request was disregarded. Additionally, the burger had an unexpectedly sweet taste, which I did not enjoy. The croissant was undercooked as well. Our server seemed too busy to be attentive; she didn't clear our table on time, forgot our drinks, and rarely checked on us. Overall, while the food was okay, the service was subpar. read more

So I love Cheddars ... it was my first time going to one in VA but I've been to them in other states. to me it is an upscale red lobster, Olive Garden type chain. The food is pretty consistent ... it's always a little chaotic but never truly an issue. The place is clean and packed the food took a little longer to serve but this seems pretty typical across the chain. Place looks nice, the table cleaners do a great job. It was full of young folk I would say of all the workers I saw the oldest may have been 30. They say the older people work in the morning. All in all the food was good the cheese bites were the soup was the lowest point. I got the pecan chicken salad - the dressing was delicious. The salad was mostly romaine they should upgrade the lettuce and the chicken was just ok. The candied pecans were delicious but there was no frills to the salad. The soup did not seem to be made out of potatoes more like cornstarch with bacon and cheese ... could only eat two bites. The cheese bites were popping. I didn't have any drinks and I took the apple pie home - my mom said the ice cream for the apple pie was her favorite and the cheese. She also had the fried shrimp and fried fish ... she said it had a lot of batter but was very tasty. She also said the coleslaw was delicious but the broccoli casserole was terrible. Finally the glazed croissant is always a hit! I would definitely go back in if I were in the neighborhood but would probably not drive out of my way I love about 35 min from there if the tunnel is not an issue read more

I'm in town visiting Hampton for the holiday and decided to step into Cheddars. The last time I had been in one of these was back in Charlotte, North Carolina. There is ample parking in the parking lot as it is in the mall area. When we arrived, we were told there was a 20 minute wait so we added our name to the list and wait for the text message. The establishment is clean and noise level is decent. We seated roughly about 10 minutes later and went to our table. The cool thing about this place is that you can put your own order into the tablets on the table. The only drawback is that you cannot order any alcoholic beverages via the tablet. There is a button for the server right on the tablet so we push that button and waited. Our server arrived very quickly and we were able to place our order for $4 happy hour. We ordered the Tito and cranberry as well as ordered a glass of rosé. For our meal, we ordered the rib and chicken tenders with broccoli and cheese casserole as well as ordering the herb, roasted chicken with broccoli and carrots. I also ordered the side salad. The food was okay. The salad was great. The drinks were good. The ribs could have been cooked longer and the chicken could have been roasted longer. The chicken also lacked any seasoning. We both had to add sauces on the side to add flavor. We ended up taking a lot home. We placed the ribs and chicken in the air fryer which then made it perfect. Overall, very nice spot. I will come back again. read more

I loveeee chedders their steak is always an amazing med rare however the waiter is always very bare they don't say much except 'ok' it kinda ruins the whole vibe the whole place is very astetic especially with all the decor but every time the waiter just makes it very unenjoyable almost, because he just doesn't really say anything are do anything it's just ok and just standing there, writing some stuff down, he doesn't even say, ok, well, may I have your menus no, he just kind of picks him up and doesn't say anything, it really just it's not how you would want to be served at a restaurant it's just really bear, but the food is amazing and the decor is really nice read more

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen - 8 oz. Fire Grilled Sirloin - Comfort Food Near Me - Newport News, Virginia

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen - A Delightful Experience! I needed a place for dinner close to my hotel and was recommended Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. Normally, I avoid chain restaurants and didn't realize this was one, but I'm glad I gave it a try! The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated, which set a nice tone. The service was great--friendly and quick. To my surprise, when I sat down, they brought me complimentary croissants covered in butter and sugar. They were absolutely delicious! My server suggested the spinach dip as an appetizer, and it didn't disappoint. The chips were fresh and the dip was hot and flavorful. For my entrée, I had the Key West Chicken and Shrimp, served with rice. I opted for a Caesar Salad as my additional side. While the presentation could have been better--perhaps a smaller plate--the taste was excellent, and everything was cooked perfectly. I'd definitely recommend Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen and would happily return. A pleasant surprise from a chain restaurant! read more

Greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter was very attentive. The croissants with sweet butter served to everyone are divine! We shared the Wisconsin Cheese bites, they're are crispy and tasty! I ordered the vegetable plate- a cup of soup or a salad and 4 sides. Broccoli cheese casserole, southern green beans, homemade coleslaw, and beans and rice were my sides. Each was delicious. The bacon on the soup was too tough and had a taste that turned me off. The person I was dining with had chicken tenders and ribs. Tenders were good, ribs were okay. Restaurant was clean, fairly empty, which is expected at 7:30 on a Monday night. We were seated in a booth, with parties on either side of us. The people behind each of us kept banging against the seats. I'd ask for a table next time. read more

Cheddar's is always a great option when craving amazing food and drinks. While we were in the area Saturday night around 7:30pm, we decided to stop in and thankfully, we were able to be seated in the bar area right away. The bar area wasn't too noisy or crowded at all, which I liked. After looking over the menu, we immediately ordered the Texas Margaritas since they were such a good price. For $6, we assumed that the margaritas were going to be in small cups but to our surprise, they were in pretty large margarita glasses and they tasted very good! For my entree, I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrappers and I chose the Cheddar Bacon Fries as my side! The wraps were served with homemade ranch dressing and were AMAZING! They weren't spicy but had a lot of flavor and the pickles inside of the wrap made it taste even better. The loaded fries were also very good, especially when dipped in the ranch! The icing on the cake was the complimentary Honey Butter Croissants which just melt in your mouth! The warmth of the croissant with the sweetness of the honey butter is like a parade of happiness in your mouth! Just divine. I've never had a bad experience at Cheddar's and the waiters have always been extremely helpful every time I've went. Unfortunately, I did go into the bathroom before we left and I'm not sure if it was an understaffing issue or not but there were used paper towels overflowing from the garbage area (which is in between the sinks) and all over the floor. The sink was leaking water as well which was very dangerous but I'm hoping they resolve that issue ASAP. Outside of that, we had a great overall experience and will definitely be returning. read more

This was one of the worst experiences. We had a party of nine show up, and we're told that we couldn't sit together. it was very awkward as we were there for a meeting. Once we were sat, no one came to our table for about fifteen minutes. What was very interesting is that we were people of color. so three pound us who recent ten minutes after we arrived were greeted served and their order taken. ten minutes later, we were still not served. When I asked the difference between single and double, I was told you get 2 chicken breasts. For only $2 more, I questioned the size of the breast. First time here & we went twice in one weekend. Both times we got curbside. The first time the food was pretty good. We ordered the croissants (YUMMO!), coconut shrimp kids meal, pasta kids meal, and country fried steak. The gravy with the steak tasted like pork. I didn't like it. The steak was super thin and overcooked. The kids meals weren't great. They were cold, so the shrimp had to be recooked. The coconut was hard to chew, so I ended up throwing away the shrimp & just eating the sides. My son went ahead and ate his cold kids meal because he was starving. The strawberry lemonades were good & had chopped pieces of strawberries in them. The second day we ordered curbside again. They were very slow that night. We got chicken strip kids meals and chicken fried chicken meal this time. I didn't eat the gravy, but the chicken was pretty good. This time, the croissants had LIVE GNATS in the box with them. I was so annoyed and sick because I didn't open it until we got back to the hotel. I opened the lid and the gnats flew on about their merrily little way. That was trash, so that was a total waste of money. All in all, Cheddars is OK! Check your food before you leave if you do curbside & make sure it's what you expect. read more

First trip, 3.5 overall. Floor was greasy, lobby kinda smelled. Small menu with Americana food: chicken, shrimp, burgers, wraps, fish, ribs, salads, sides, and a mix of non alcoholic drinks (lemonades, teas) and reasonably priced adult bevs. 2 Buffalo chicken wrap platters and my grilled chicken/shrimp plate. Food quality was 3-4/5 stars, along with above average portions for the price. The croissants were delectable (6/5 stars); hot, soft, flaky, melt in your mouth carbs, conveniently greased by honey butter for easier consumption. Our party of 3 received friendly but slow service. Restaurant was busy, evident by the parking lot on arrival. Liked the convenient pay at table kiosk. read more
