Overall Rating: 4/5 I had a bit of a mixed experience here, but I will definitely be back! My wife ordered the steak, and it was so good that I think I ended up eating more of her meal than my own. Next time, I am absolutely ordering the steak for myself. On the downside, our waitress was clearly new and very nervous. She forgot to input my food order as well as our table's bar drinks. Unfortunately, both my meal and the drinks arrived after the rest of my party had already finished eating. Despite the service hiccups and the restaurant being incredibly busy, we were seated in the back, which was surprisingly quiet and pleasant. Whomever the young lady was that was bringing out food and decided to answer me by say "I dont know girl," was very disrespectful and derogatory. The customer service was already poor as the party was large 13 people to be exact and the staff claimed the party was mistakenly removed from the wait list and to top it off we the party moved our own tables together. So from management on down to wait staff service is HORRIBLE. This will be the last time I drive from Suffolk to this Newport News location as it's not worth the money. Had a great time at cheddars took the kids to dinner the menu lax for nothing. I ordered the beer, battered fried shrimp with a loaded, baked potato and the green beans my daughter had the fried fish or deficient shrimp platter, and my son did a cheesesteak but the only complaint we had was my daughter said the lemonade. The strawberry lemonade was watered down like it didn't have the flavor that it should have. I received a fork that look like it have been bent up almost cut my mouth cause I didn't look at it so you'll see that in the photos as well but other than that the service was great. This restaurant was recommended to us by a few couples so we made the long drive for date night. This is a chain restaurant with a hometown feel to it. The waiting time for a booth was short and we were greeted quickly upon entering. It is a quieter restaurant with comfortable seating. I checked Yelp before ordering for favor filled options in the reviews. We both ordered rib combos with the broccoli and cheese casserole, and a side salad. The ribs were meaty and seasoned well. Very tender and almost fell off of the bone. The broccoli cheese casserole was amazing! It was full of flavor and cheese l, perfection. The side salad was extremely fresh, tasty, and it was large. The salad was so fresh, we ate it before our yummy ribs and ended up too full to finish the entree. We heard a lot about the honey butter crossiants but we were not impressed and after a few bites we decided not to waste calories on them. Maybe they are usually better but not on that night. The restaurant decor is interesting, kind of a cross between Longhorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse, nothing stood out but it was clean and tidy. I would make the drive again for the great food. I would have given it 5 stars but the service was just okay, the decor was blah, and the presentation of the food was a little better than fast food. read more

Hardly my first or even 10th visit here over the years, I decided a review was due. We were seated in the bar area. I prefer the bright environs of the main dining room but today was ok in the bar. One favorite is the complimentary iced croissants. Yum! I ordered unsweet tea and it was nicely brewed! I ordered the monte cristo, always my favorite. I asked my friends to make sure I don't order it again. It is nicely deep fried but it is too much sandwich. I subbed the fries for soup. The potato soup was thick like glue with potatoes, bacon and cheese. I only ate a few bites. Our food came out quickly with some wrong items our server corrected. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Cheddars is always a pleasant dining experience with some good meal deals and variety of food choices. Their menu has a wide variety from appetizers (spinach dip, onion rings, chicken tenders), salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, steaks and seafood from grilled salmon to shrimp. First time going to this establishment and the food was amazing. We had a issue with our order not being delivered to their system (we ate in). We watched 3 tables get there food consume it and leave and we still had not received ours. The Manager Markus came around and asked how we were and we stated "disappointed " because we had been waiting for over an hour and still had not received any food. He went to check on it and 20 more minutes went by before we finally received our food I asked for it to be boxed up. The Manager came out and apologized for the wait and stated that they had an issue with their system uploading the order, I was upset but Mr Markus corrected everything and made it RIGHT. The restaurant itself has decent decorations, but small seating at the booths and tables. Our waitress was very attentive and refilled my drinks as it became almost empty. The cooks however must of been off their game since the food was cooked wrong. My girlfriend's country fried steak had brown gravy instead of white gravy and then my steak was supposed to be medium rare , but this is raw. The restaurant was mediocre. I definitely recommend getting there early on the weekends because it gets packed! You can't make reservations but you can call ahead. The food was a hit or miss. The salmon was good, but dry. The fried fish didn't have any seasoning and came out undercooked. The green beans had a weird sweet taste. The cookie dessert had the consistency of cake and didn't have a lot of flavor. The carrot cake was great and moist. The only item that was delicious were the croissants. Avoid the alcoholic drinks. So I love Cheddars ... it was my first time going to one in VA but I've been to them in other states. to me it is an upscale red lobster, Olive Garden type chain. The food is pretty consistent ... it's always a little chaotic but never truly an issue. The place is clean and packed the food took a little longer to serve but this seems pretty typical across the chain. Place looks nice, the table cleaners do a great job. It was full of young folk I would say of all the workers I saw the oldest may have been 30. They say the older people work in the morning. All in all the food was good the cheese bites were the soup was the lowest point. I got the pecan chicken salad - the dressing was delicious. The salad was mostly romaine they should upgrade the lettuce and the chicken was just ok. The candied pecans were delicious but there was no frills to the salad. The soup did not seem to be made out of potatoes more like cornstarch with bacon and cheese ... could only eat two bites. The cheese bites were popping. I didn't have any drinks and I took the apple pie home - my mom said the ice cream for the apple pie was her favorite and the cheese. She also had the fried shrimp and fried fish ... she said it had a lot of batter but was very tasty. She also said the coleslaw was delicious but the broccoli casserole was terrible. Finally the glazed croissant is always a hit! I'm in town visiting Hampton for the holiday and decided to step into Cheddars. The last time I had been in one of these was back in Charlotte, North Carolina. There is ample parking in the parking lot as it is in the mall area. When we arrived, we were told there was a 20 minute wait so we added our name to the list and wait for the text message. The establishment is clean and noise level is decent. We seated roughly about 10 minutes later and went to our table. The cool thing about this place is that you can put your own order into the tablets on the table. The only drawback is that you cannot order any alcoholic beverages via the tablet. There is a button for the server right on the tablet so we push that button and waited. Our server arrived very quickly and we were able to place our order for $4 happy hour. We ordered the Tito and cranberry as well as ordered a glass of rosé. For our meal, we ordered the rib and chicken tenders with broccoli and cheese casserole as well as ordering the herb, roasted chicken with broccoli and carrots. I also ordered the side salad. The food was okay. The salad was great. The drinks were good. The ribs could have been cooked longer and the chicken could have been roasted longer. The chicken also lacked any seasoning. We both had to add sauces on the side to add flavor. We ended up taking a lot home. We placed the ribs and chicken in the air fryer which then made it perfect. Overall, very nice spot. This was one of the worst experiences. We had a party of nine show up, and we're told that we couldn't sit together. it was very awkward as we were there for a meeting. Once we were sat, no one came to our table for about fifteen minutes. What was very interesting is that we were people of color. so three pound us who recent ten minutes after we arrived were greeted served and their order taken. ten minutes later, we were still not served. Cheddar's is always a great option when craving amazing food and drinks. While we were in the area Saturday night around 7:30pm, we decided to stop in and thankfully, we were able to be seated in the bar area right away. The bar area wasn't too noisy or crowded at all, which I liked. After looking over the menu, we immediately ordered the Texas Margaritas since they were such a good price. For $6, we assumed that the margaritas were going to be in small cups but to our surprise, they were in pretty large margarita glasses and they tasted very good! For my entree, I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrappers and I chose the Cheddar Bacon Fries as my side! The wraps were served with homemade ranch dressing and were AMAZING! They weren't spicy but had a lot of flavor and the pickles inside of the wrap made it taste even better. The loaded fries were also very good, especially when dipped in the ranch! The icing on the cake was the complimentary Honey Butter Croissants which just melt in your mouth! The warmth of the croissant with the sweetness of the honey butter is like a parade of happiness in your mouth! Just divine. I've never had a bad experience at Cheddar's and the waiters have always been extremely helpful every time I've went. Unfortunately, I did go into the bathroom before we left and I'm not sure if it was an understaffing issue or not but there were used paper towels overflowing from the garbage area (which is in between the sinks) and all over the floor. The sink was leaking water as well which was very dangerous but I'm hoping they resolve that issue ASAP. When I asked the difference between single and double, I was told you get 2 chicken breasts. For only $2 more, I questioned the size of the breast.
