Beware when booking on CheapCaribbean.com. Their site says they are dedicated to their customer's satisfaction, but that is a LIE. I have tried calling and emailing countless times for some sort of resolution or compensation for my horrible and misrepresented vacation to the Dominican Republic and have been completely ignored and hung up on.
After trying to give them a chance to make it right for over a month and hearing nothing, I will make sure that word is posted online so that others are aware that you are gambling whether your vacation is as advertised through this company. Again, buyer beware....
The resort we stayed at in Dominican Republic (Hideaway at Royalton) is advertised as Adults Only, and it is DEFINITELY NOT. There were kids everywhere. You pay extra for an adults only resort, but then find out the adults only area is 1 restaurant, 2 bars and one of the pools.
The resort was small, our room too.
The hallways smelled like a public restroom.
The AC in our room did not work. It was at least 80 degrees in our room all the time and because of the humidity, the room smelled musty and awful, and everything was damp (sheets, clothes, everything). We switched rooms the first day, but the room they put us in was just the same. Found out from other guests that there really is not good AC in any room.
The room is outdated and scratched up and dingy. The toilet paper dispenser was falling off the wall so that the TP fell on the floor all the time and there were stains on the floor near the bed and on the sofa.
The first night we had one towel. We paid the maid $20 to make sure we were supplied with towels going forward.
The food was SO VERY bad. I have been to resorts before and did not expect much as far as all-inclusive goes, but I lost weight on this trip and felt sick all the time.
I figured out too late that the alcohol is watered down and you know they are not using bottled water to water it down, so that may be another contributor to our feeling sick all the time while there. Local water in the alcohol. Came back to the States with diarrhea.
The internet connection was very spotty and kicked us off all the time.
The theater had broken seats.
The casino smelled like mold.
There were never any towels at the towel stations for the pool and we had a hard time finding a chair to use.
All the pools closed at 7 pm.
The nightlife was music playing nightly, but the kids overtook and ruled that. "Nightlife" over at 10:30.
The only other thing going on in the evening was the casino and the "night club" which was the sports bar. Only difference between day and nighttime was they turned the music up.
The one night we decided to go to that sports bar, my boyfriend got DRUGGED. Someone put something in his drink and we spent our last day of our trip with him throwing up, with chills, shaking and not able to eat at all! Because he was drugged, he ran into things, bruised his pinky toe, 2 cuts on the bottom of his feet, he wiped his sunburnt nose too much from sweating that he rubbed his skin off of it and I don't know what he did to his hand, but he may have broken it.
I tried calling Cheap Caribbean the first 2 nights we were there to see if they would be able to switch resorts for us, but got hung up on 4 times and got the runaround saying that we had to ask the resort, and the resort said we had to ask Cheap Caribbean.
We knew we were stuck there and ended up spending another $1500 just to go on excursions and go out to eat a couple of nights so that we wouldn't have to be at the resort.
On the excursions, we heard from other people staying at other resorts that they were having a great time, their resorts were great, their AC worked, the food was good and their pools were open much later and their nightlife ended by midnight or 2 am.
Once home, could not get the musty smell out of my suitcases from the room. Had to throw them away and buy new.
Just happened to book the worst resort ever, I guess. STAY AWAY from Royalton Punta Cana!
And Cheap Caribbean was NO help in making things right. Shame! read more
