We participated in the Cinco De Mayo parade in our town. We walked in the Heritage High School Homecoming parade. We attended a minor league baseball game. Basically, Seung-ni had to close down one of their Saginaw locations due to financial reasons. This is totally understandable, but they only provided a few days notice before the location closed, and are not providing adequate and fair compensation after imposing this large inconvenience. For those that had their home gym closed suddenly, we were not charged for the June membership. Yes, this is great, but what I really want are the classes that drew me to Seung-ni in the first place and what I am paying for: the kickboxing classes. I went from having an opportunity to take a kickboxing class nearly every day of the week to only being offered 3, two of which are on Tuesday (my muscles cannot do 2 of those classes in one day, plus one is at 5:30am), and the third on Saturday, when I am either away on the weekends or spending time with friends and family. Obviously, I was upset for being charged over $50/month for services I no longer receive and utilize. I emailed management multiple times trying to talk with someone and see if there were other forms of compensation that could be taken so I did not feel cheated, and never received a response. Eventually I reached out on facebook, and have now been receiving messages from a staffer, none of which are helpful. At this point I am so fed up with the business that my desire is to break my annual contract, but they flat out refuse to entertain the idea; Seung-ni obviously just wants to continue to take my money despite having a grossly unsatisfied customer. I am sure that people benefit from this gym membership, but to me they are not coming across as a business that has the customers best interest at heart, and for that I cannot in good faith recommend them to anyone. I really am bummed about this experience.

I still continue practicing TKD in Maryland. Thus, I have had a chance to compare schools and masters and their training curriculum and practices across Michigan and Maryland. Master Chung ranks among the top for many reasons: 1) He is passionate about the art, and attempts to imbibe the same in the student. 2) He teaches, not only the techniques of TKD, but also the philosophy of TKD in a manner that allows one to grow personally in other walks of life as well. THIS IS A FEATURE THAT NOT MANY MASTERS MAY OFFER! 3) The TKD curriculum involves intense warm-ups, stretching exercises, forms, kicks/ punches/blocks, sparring, and self-defense techniques. What's special is that each of these elements differ each day, thereby making it all the more fun and exciting. That variety helps the student in an overall development of fitness and mindset. 4) Students are allowed to test only when they reach the required level for graduation, which may vary from individual to individual. Many schools make students test just for making $$ off the testing fees. That's not the case here. 5) Master Chung runs the show HIMSELF every day, every class. Many other schools rely on their black-belt instructors to run the class. 6) Master Chung displays the right balance of strictness and leniency during the class, which is fine tuned to each student, depending on his/her ability. This allows for an optimal learning curve for the student. 7) Master Chung focuses on the precision of each and every technique, such that one gets perfect at it. Other schools do not necessarily care about teaching the precise technique. 8) Lastly, the school here is BEST equipped. Master Kim definitely has his style of teaching, and it produces champions, mental toughness, and forges (that word chosen intentionally) exceptional skill. There is something for everyone at Master Kim's. For example, the families of the highest Olympic Team athletes or those serious to make Tae Kwon Do a career - I have seen individuals and families fly overseas, or move across state lines just to be trained by Master Kim. We've all seen schools (I have anyway) where business and profit is the priority. Everyone feels like a champion and they produce black belts that you hope they don't encounter situations where they need self-defense. This is not Master Kim's school. They dont disclose all the additional costs, equipment, ceremonies to get a higher belt that cost more money. Its $1500 a kid which only covers 2 sessions a week at 45 min. It does not cover anything else. Constant pressure to do other "special event" which costs more money. I understand the importance of charity, however one day and its a paid for day which should be teaching Karate not coloring and making bins for donations, should be teaching what we paid for, then another day my kids are 10 years old, they had them sit in this class for teaching economics where they wouldnt understand that anyway at this age. I paid for them to learn karate.In addition you have to be on par at the end of the contract or it automatically renews and your stuck in it again. Its a money grab machine, the older kids barely know the karate moves and looks at the other like you would if you didnt know line dancing. We tried to get out of this early, we couldnt, she will attempt to "work on it" with them, but thats not the entire issue, this is not a real Dojo or Karate place, they pack this place and you expect to teach them correctly how to do Karate? Go watch a you tube video on how to tie the belt, like what? How about you teach them in person, its what we are paying for...not to have homework. We tried to get out of it again, and again same routine, they put pressure​ on you to come up with a better reason you dont want to continue, then expect you pay the contract in full if you want to leave, then say well if you wanted out you should of talked earlier on in the program, like what!? I did and you pressured us to stay! Then they negotiate a different price to get out of the program still costing us a lot over $700 for nothing just to get out of this. She charged that card so quick too, and then said it has to be paid today, they arent clear and do not disclose all the additional equipment which by the way for two sets of boxing gloves and 2 small block punching bags were over $200 which had to have Evolve on them. She makes it sound like its your fault your kids dont like it, or they look to me like they were improving, or you signed this contract did you read it? Yes I read it and it is BS! Because certain costs were not listed in it and that is a breach of contract. I do NOT recommend signing your child up for this place. They claim they arent a normal dojo but a "life skills school" then WTF is all this Karate stuff then? Why did you make it sound that way? We wanted our kids to learn discipline along with some kick ass moves....not be part of a class to learn how not to use credit cards, savings, and credit scores or go color, or be in some daycare center is how I feel it is, just piling more and more kids in for another dollar sign. They didnt even use the equipment we were told was required after the contract was signed. Then Ms. Laiken states you werent required, BS! You know what was said. They will threaten to sue you if you dont pay up. They wont let you out of this program without paying a ton of money. They claim they care about your kids but its seriously an uncontrolled daycare and the most they will learn is to say "Yes Ma'am" dozens of times throughout the 45 minutes there per session. This place will be reported to consumer fraud and eventually a suit will be made against this place. Just a matter of time. Its a scam and they know it, if this was a month by month they wouldnt be able to make it. They barely teach any karate. Its ridiculous, no kick ass moves here to be learned, not a real dojo, if you dont heed this warning you'll find out after you sign that wonderful contract they make you sign and see what is being said is true and have every bit of regret we did.
