I have banked with several over the years and still have my Navy Federal account but Chase witheld my paycheck for two weeks and refused to release my funds even after it cleared from my boss's account. I've never had this issue with any check ever from any other banks I've worked with. They could be the reason someone gets kicked out of their apartment! Had to find a notary service in area in hurry within an hour, first I went to Citi close by and they denied that it's appointment only. The lady there said her schedule is full. Then I went to this branch because it was a block away and they quickly notarised my documents without wait or appointment. You know why it happens, due to lack of staff. When bank wants to keep low staff to gain profit, people have to wait in line. I am thankful that my work was done and was able to come back on time. read more

Opened two checking accounts, they had a special of $300 deposit to your account if you open an account. Over a month and they avoid providing the $300 when calling into the office, we still have not received any information in the mail on our checking account numbers, etc. (Which they could not provide in office and would have to mail because they were closing for the day.) read more

Lizette Tran, the manager at this branch cannot be trusted. She lacks integrity and you cannot believe a word that comes out of her mouth. One of the most important qualities in doing business is being impeccable with your word. Lizette failed miserably. She assured me my safe deposit box fee will be waived as long as I'm a customer at Chase. That when I receive my invoice for the safe deposit box - all I have to do is to reach out to her and she would take care of it. Now she's telling me she can no longer waive the fee. Lizette is a big reason why I closed all my accounts with Chase including my home equity line of credit, after being a loyal customer for over 50 years. Shame on you Lizette!!! read more

Chase customer service is the worst! I was moved to Chase due to the acquisition of First Republic, and I cannot express how much I miss the personal and fast customer service of First Republic. Chase Bank is slow, stuck in bureaucracy, and not forward-looking. They are not the bank for the future. With that kind of approach, they will continue to fall further behind. The worst bank ever! Someone stole my account number and then created a fake check. This check didn't even have my name on it. Chase allowed this fake $12,000 check to clear my account. Why does the atm close so early, or even at all? The whole purpose of having an atm card is for after hour banking. You help to find a solution for the homeless problem. The location at corner of Van Ness and McAllister has two atms, two different doors, and no sign of having a card reader for access? What about all the students nearby? What is the beef? This was the one time I've had an issue with Chase. I called this branch yesterday to confirm they have foreign currency (Mexican Pesos) and the woman on the phone told me they had them stocked and I would not need to order them. Walked in today, spend 20 minutes in line, and the teller told me not only do they not keep them stocked, but they could not even guarantee them within 2 days. On my way out, the greeter told me they do come in 2 days and that the teller was new and didn't know. By that point, I had lost my spot in line and didn't have time to wait all over again. My escrow account was overcharged by several thousand dollars the first year of my loan. As a United Airlines Premier Gold (million mile) flyer my recommendation is to say NO to opening a United Explorer Visa with Chase unless you are a single card holder. Charges will be denied to the secondary cardholder for as long as the account is deemed "new". I had to drop by here after my card was *ahem* misplaced at a club. Basically, it fell out of my purse and though I was sober, I didn't notice till the next day. It took me thirty minutes to sign up for a new one. I felt grilled, annoyed and to be truthful quite frustrated. If I were to order it online, it would have taken five minutes. But in person where they can see my ID and face? A half hour plus. And when I came back to pick up the card, they told me they had shipped it to me. I said no. I called Chase Customer Service yesterday to find out why my debit card was deactivated, and asked for the branch location nearest to Powell & Ellis (where I was crossing the street at the time). The rep told me the closest one was in Chinatown, to which I thought there was no way in hell I was making that trek to visit a bank. I remembered there was a Chase right outside the Montgomery BART, so I figured I'd make the 10 minute walk over. Two blocks later, I was pleasantly surprised when I spotted a Chase sign down Market St. (right across Super Duper Burger!). I walked in just to withdraw some cash, but after hearing about my debit card situation, the teller directed me to a personal banker without me even asking (I just assumed I had to call Chase to get a new debit card re-issued). The banker (Ahmad) who helped me was extremely nice and charming, and figured everything out for me in about 10 minutes. I walked out with a new checking account because apparently my old one was closed due to inactivity. Needless to say, I was a very happy and satisfied customer that day. I wish all Chase Banks have a vestibule, such as this one, for ATM transactions (deposit, withdrawal, checking balances, etc.). I have been to this bank several weeks ago. The service was quick and the tellers helpful. Earlier today, I had to do a pit stop at the ATM machine because my Clipper card was low on funds and I needed "cashola" (20 dollas, as this song is dedicated to the machine..."can ya lend me 20 dollas until I get my check next week"...lol). The bank is in a convenient location for my business dealings - Sprint (cell phone bill), AT&T (landline bill), Walgreens is a few doors away (for adding funds to my Clipper Card), Muni buses (5, 38) to the Transbay Terminal. read more

I've been a Chase customer for about 10 years--I came along with your acquisition of Washington Mutual. Unfortunately, my experiences with your ATM service has made me decide to leave Chase. I've started banking with Bank of America instead. Chase has denied 5 of my ATM transactions over the past couple months: In Auburn, San Francisco, Alameda, and twice in Oakland. The explanation provided to me has been "fraud protection." I'm not convinced this is true, but if so, then clearly your algorithms aren't striking the right balance between security and convenience. Even so, I feel we could've worked this out. You could've made it right. Getting denied at the ATM is bad, but not necessarily enough to switch banks. Unfortunately, your support just isn't good enough to overcome your poor software. For example, first denial was outside an open branch (October 15, 2018). It was fairly easy to go inside and get my money instead. But could the teller tell me why the ATM denied me? No. And so instead of talking to the banker right in front of me, I later got a robocall from a number I didn't recognize. Second denial was at a drive-though ATM, because the walk-up ATM was broken (did I mention you have ATM issues?). You followed up with an SMS asking about an ATM transaction I did over a month before--as if I'm supposed to just remember exact dates and amounts? Besides, I think the question was about the transaction I was denied. So "Did you make a withdrawal on...?" is hard to answer. Is it yes because I attempted it? Or is it no because I didn't actually get my money? Third denial, I knew the drill. I immediately called the number on the back of my card. After a fair amount of rigmarole, I got a promise my card would work again in 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, it didn't work. Another call. Total time to make an ATM withdrawal? 25 minutes. At that point, I decided to stop to banking at Chase. Though in the transition, I actually got denied a fourth time (Oakland), and a fifth (Alameda). At this point, I suspect you know you have a problem with your ATM network, but just aren't admitting it to customers. No matter--I'm no longer a customer. read more

I am a Brand New Chase Customer and my employer did a branch deposit on my behalf. I understand that the requirement to place extended holds on the funds especially during these day and ages with all the fraud is necessary. The purpose for my review today is that I called this branch in particular located at 700 Market St and spoke to a representative named: Baoyi Feng who was Extremely Courteous and especially engaged with my situation. I needed the funds to be released earlier than the system would allow and Baoyi Feng provided me with information on how to go about getting the hold updated. She gave me her undivided attention and made me feel valued and important. After I completed the steps. I received a follow up call from her letting me know a few more details were needed to complete my request. Just walked into this bank and met with lack of customer service. I came in to make a deposit and see if I can meet up with a rep. I wanted to inquire on the private client banking and have enough to qualify. But the only thing I got was very negative energy from the banker and not even a nice greetings. More Hassles and Fees Than You Could Imagine! I have been a Chase member for over 10 years. The bank has declined in customer service to the point where I made a choice to recently leave the bank. It wasn't until I left the bank that I released how archaic their policies and procedures really are and how they are fooling their customers. Here is a list of my experiences that forced me to look elsewhere. Overall Operations: -Chase corporate team is asleep at the wheel; they have no clue what is happening at the branches. Branch tellers are basically none existent with bank floor support kiosks 80% vacant on any given day -A teller once told me, "our corporate team does not care what happens at the branches. Branch managers are powerless and have no information to help you...we are only here to work the window." -I regularly received misinformation across representatives. What the 1-800 reps told me was different from what the bank personnel told me which was different from what the corporate offices told me. Sometimes this was as simple as when a internal bank transfer would clear Banking -Excessive balances must be maintained to avoid account fees, not friendly to students or lower income households -I had to carry around and manage multiple bank cards to do everyday functions...way too complex -You need to be an information technology wizard to navigate and use their website or banking application -On a given Saturday (or other busy day) you can find 15+ people on line with 2-3 tellers behind the glass -Fees are everywhere you look, account minimums, withdrawals, transfers, and cashier checks and good luck trying to get them waived -Online tools are extremely limiting and trips to the branch with complex processes and approvals are a common occurrence I'll leave you with this troubling fact: it took me 3 days and 6 trips to my local branch to close my 5 accounts at Chase.......However, I opened up 5 new bank accounts, added all my payees and completed it all online IN ONLY 2 HOURS. I should have exited Chase many years ago, lesson learned. read more

How Chase let me down... Let me explain why this bank used to be my favorite bank and how little it made me feel by the end of this ordeal. So, I'm a college student and I've just earned my bachelor's degree this past spring. I don't have a real job and I'm currently working as an intern and living with my mom. Early July of this year, 2021, I learned that I lost 740 dollars on June 28th. Now I have absolutely no idea how I lost this money. I could've been scammed, hacked, or even something where if you swipe your card at a gas station then someone can steal your card information that way or whatever. Absolutely no clue. I call chase and file a claim about the 740 dollars. Now I first receive my 740 dollars but after a week they take back the money. So, I call back chase and ask what happened and they said, "there was no fraudulent activity on my account," so they denied me the money. After spending a while fighting this with the claims department at chase, I learn from one of the people helping me that I lost another 868 dollars in April. Now I'm terrified because the same people took over 1600 dollars away from me. The way I know that it was the same person/group was because there was an account number attached to the unauthorized transfer of my money to their account. I file a second claim for this money and chase gives me my money back. As soon as they give me my money back, I take it out of my chase account and put it into my Bank of America account so that Chase doesn't take back the money. I listened to my mom in this case. I still have that money with me, and chase has never asked me about this money since I took it out. I, obviously, want these 740 dollars back. I ask the chase claims department what they want me to do and basically, they said I need proof. First, I'm like what the fuck I'm not a detective. But I try my best. I got a POLICE REPORT and sent it to chase. I told chase, even though they should know, that there was the same account used for both transactions. After talking to other banks and their claims department, like bank of America, I learned how the account was from a Capital one account. I called Capital One to see if they could help me get more information on this account but, of course, they said no. I don't. I didn't have an account with them, and I don't have that kind of authorization in the first place. I send everything that I thought of and everything that my mom and sister told me to send to them. I went to my local branch and asked them to help me with this in any way that they could. They tried and then told me that there was nothing that they could do about this. I proceeded to get the branch everyday for about a week before I stopped getting anywhere with the branch. I even threatened to sue a couple of time both on the phone and in person. I even took a step down and asked my mom to talk to these people because I thought she had some money so maybe they'll listen to her. It's now September 2021 and I don't know what to do. They still haven't given me my 740 dollars back and they never asked about the 868 dollars also. I know about the fair banking act, thanks to my sister who's a banker herself, and I now know what chase did to me was completely unfair. I'm a chill guy and I don't get mad easy. Even if I'm mad, I can't stay mad for a long time. But I believe chase will not give me these 740 dollars back to me because I'm not mean, I don't have a lot of money, I don't understand everything when it comes to the system, they think I'm a scammer because I'm Indian, and because I'm just some kid. I've never felt so small in my life. Chase is a company with literally billions of dollars. All I'm asking is for my 740 dollars back Chase. I have been a member of Chase Bank Ygnacio Valley Branch for years. Less than one mile from my house; perfect location also. I've been trying for ever to get my wife to take a chance and move her savings accounts from her credit union to Chase and settle there because the rates are better and it's close to home. My wife finally bit the bullet and moved a little under 100k into a few accounts at Chase. Shortly thereafter, we received a coupon in the mail from Chase that had an offer for $600.00 if you opened a savings and checking accounts totaling over 15k , held for 90 days and had direct deposit. We did just that. When it came time to honor this offer, we've been told no. We went in several times and no one was there to help us. Finally when we spoke to someone who could help, they lost the coupon offer twice. Now they're saying as we have no coupon in hand, they cannot extend the offer. On top of that, Deborah, the new branch manager, said she spoke with her coupon department and we don't qualify; and that was that. Not, were very sorry is there another way we can make this work for you? It was just, nope. Can't help you. This is after speaking with Russell from the Private Banking Dept and him telling us, TWICE, we qualified and he would forward a copy of our coupon to the new manager. Well, this is enough BS for one day. I know I'm just one banking customer. But my 130k is moving on to another bank. So's my wifes 100k and her uncles 200k. Almost 500k leaving chase today because "DEBORAH, has no personable skills beyond smiling, and her common sense lacks imagination. It's not the $600.00 dollars, it's the principle and just her inability to know not everything is black and white. A bank chose Deborah over Michael, is a bad choice to begin with. read more

If I could award a -1000, I would do so. This is the only time EVER I have complained online about a business, but this bank is the WORST EVER. Allow me to explain. My late mother passed away from complications caused by Covid-19 in early April, 2020. I tried calling Chase to give notice in mid-April, 2020 in order to freeze my late mother's accounts. I therefore called its "Customer Service" (haha) and went into voice-mail limbo. I was on hold for nearly 1.5 hours. Then the person who finally took the call told me that she could not help, and she transferred me to another number, but I lost the connection. That was frustrating. I then had the SAME THING happen the next day. It was only on my third try that I was able to give notice to a friendly, helpful person, who did freeze my mother's accounts. On April 21, 2020, I sent to Chase's "Decedent Account Services" formal a certified death certificate and a formal instruction to freeze my mother's accounts. I received a written response in June that provided vague, spare, cryptic instructions, but since I am a lawyer myself and had a probate attorney representing me I knew what to do despite the lack of guidance from Chase. Also, Chase continued to send account statements, which I received, since all of my late mother's mail is being forwarded to me. Those statements showed that the funds remained in my mother's account. On August 14, 2020, I sent certified letters testamentary and a probate decree to Chase's "Decedent Account Services," confirming that I had been appointed the executor of my mother's estate. I also sent written instruction to liquidate her accounts and remit the funds to me. I received no response. So I followed up with pro-active correspondence and phone calls. It takes Chase at least 1-2 days to respond to a call or e-mail, but usually it DOES NOT RESPOND AT ALL. It is now September 21 and it still has not send the funds or explained to me when it will do so. I received ONE CRYPTIC RESPONSE, advising me to wait because it requires time to process requests. I am still await my late mother's funds. I also requested tax forms (1099 forms) for my mother's accounts, and received a reply that those forms were automatically sent already. I understand, but they were generated and sent to my late mother, and I wish to have Chase send the forms to me, since I need them to complete her tax filings. Above all, Chase's customer service is ABYSMAL and it takes unreasonably long for them to respond to any inquiry, if they bother to respond at all, and they seem almost to go out of their way to be as unhelpful and cryptic as possible, except for the one very helpful person to whom I spoke last April after trying for hours to give notice of my mother's passing last April. STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM THIS BANK. IT HAS CREAKY PROCEDURES THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SERVICEABLE IN THE 1800s OR SOMETHING, and ITS STAFF GENERALLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT PROVIDING PRACTICAL, PROMPT ASSISTANCE. Long-time Chase customers found myself disappointed after the first human interactions in 10+ years. Opened a new YouInvest account which the banker was pretty helpful with. But soon after I realized that he mischaracterized its online asset transfer capabilities (read: he was definitely painting a rosette picture while selling me the product). Okay, no big deal. I printed out the standard asset transfer form and noticed that JPMorgan required it to be notarized. So we went from the promise of full digital age to stone age? That's cool. Then I made multiple attempts at getting the notary in the Chase branch - they first missed the scheduled appointment, then "forgot" the notary stamp, then would not mail the paperwork on my behalf as originally promised... and finally I got a call from JPM processing claiming that something was wrong was my form (as checked and notarized by a Chase banker) and I needed to restart the whole process. Urg... why is this bank putting up such a fight when I'm trying to give it my money? Add: shortly after Chase freaked out again when I tried transferring $25k cash into my savings account and had to get me on the phone with the other bank... that was the oddest banking experience I've had. read more

This Chase bank branch has some conveniently-located ATM's on Mission Street just up from 3rd... ...that charge a $3 fee for foreign ATM users. This is another shining example of a big, wealthy, major bank charging $3 for a service that you can get at any given random liquor store for $2 or less. I chose to go ahead and pay the fee to do business with this particular ATM on this particular day because I was in a major, major hurry, but I will not be back. $3 is way too steep a price to pay to purchase legal tender from a machine. I'll head to a random standalone instead (most of which charge between $1.50 and $2). read more

This is the closest Chase to my workplace, so naturally, it becomes my go-to branch by default during business hours. They just underwent a design makeover, so at times, I'm not sure if I'm at the bank trying to get my hands on a cashiers check, or I'm in line to board a Virgin America flight for destinations unknown. It's sleek, chic, and with soft blue accents and flashing lights all around, I feel like they should hit everyone with a hallucinogenic upon entering their front doors. The bankers are pretty friendly, even when dealing with the downtown riff-raff who find their way inside to panhandle folks leaving the ATM machines (yes, it happens daily). 5 stars for Kayla and Melanie! Recently, I've had to get some assistance for several fairly complicated transactions. Buying a home abroad is complicated enough; wiring money in a different currency at a coordinated time for a remote closing can be even more stressful. While in Croatia, I was able to connect with Melanie within mere minutes for her assistance with a wire transfer in foreign currency that I needed fast to get to pre-contract phase. And now that I'm back in SF and dealing with folks 9 hours ahead of me, coordinating all the small but important details can be a pain - however, Kayla has helped make all the financials go smoothly and even does it with a smile. She took almost 30 minutes out of her busy day to help me get a lock on the best possible exchange rate. I fared much better than expected! I've been banking with Chase for some time now, and while their checking and savings products suit my needs, I'm obsessed with their Chase Sapphire Preferred card. It's the best credit card out there (imo) for people who love to travel as you earn 2x points on all dining and travel-related expenses which I then transfer over as miles (1:1 ratio) to my United Airlines account. Two free roundtrip tickets to Europe in one year = not too shabby! This branch rocks. I think I'll be sticking with Chase for awhile :) read more

Who would've thought that a Chase bank branch would be on the coveted list of businesses that insight the feeling when cracking the door open upon exit of "Eff, that was so good, I have to share the experience on Yelp" ? I've been coming to this branch for over three years now, and now about once a month or so for the past year. And, recently, because the customer service in here is so genuine, steadfast and useful, I opt to walk through these doors instead of attempting to search the site or call someone. Maybe it's that people don't go inside bank branches all that often any longer and they're just so thankful to see a casual, happy person that I'm adorned with utter fucking joy from their staff. The major caveat to all this... is that I really can't stand what Chase does with my money. I know all about the crimes they've caused, and the wrongs they're consistently trying to right. But really... if I'm just considering how they manage my money, how they manage me, and how they are there for me at every beckon call, then it's been a completely five star experience. The examples are: + My dog ate my credit card. Answer: "Oh, we've got a new one right here for you." + I hate writing checks because I don't like when someone doesn't cash it immediately. Answer: "Oh, here's a cashier's check." + Hi, random idea on getting organized: I'd like to set up multiple accounts, including three checking accounts -- all with Visa cards & cash back incentives -- along with savings accounts. Answer: here they are. For free. When it comes to all the facets of operating a brick & mortar bank branch, they knock it out of the park. I would never dissuade anyone from leaving a local credit union to join a monolith. But I would encourage anyone interested in operating a bank branch to check this one out. read more
