I know it's weird to put a bus line around the top of my favorite things about my visit to Baltimore, but so be it: the CCC is AWESOME. I used it extensively for my 3 days there, all lines except Green and the one on the water. I used the app (and if loving the bus is a weird tourist highlight, loving the bus's app must be something else) and it did not let me down. It covered just about every single place I wanted to visit - only the Baltimore Museum Of Art and Hampden were out of bounds - but since I drove to the city, I just went to those places first. I then showed up at the hotel and rode until it was time to go home. Artscape, Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Federal Hill, etc. Bus drivers were generally friendly, and I rode the Purple line during Artscape weekend, so if they could keep their cool during that then kudos. One bus driver on Blue zoomed past the American Visionary Art Museum stop before I could signal my intention to exit, as it was a quiet weekday morning, but he just stopped the bus and let me out at an undesignated spot. Which was probably the best thing he could have done at that point. In closing, I come from a city (Atlanta) where the bus system is beyond a joke. It's more like a Dogma film. What's not to like? Free bus service aimed at tourists and residents alike (but heavy on the tourists.) 10 minute headways means there's always a bus coming, and the Orange Route (as of late Mar. 2010 the only one open) covers you from Harbor East and the edge of Little Italy/Fells Point on the east to the Inner Harbor, Convention Center, UMd. Balto. campus and Camden Yards on the west, and then some. Pratt St. isn't the most pedestrian friendly place on Earth even if you're staying on one side of the street, so it's a handy way to get to and fro. Maps are available on board and are well marked, matching to street numbers. On the plus side: there's real-time arrival stations at some of the more popular destinations. On the down side: at about half of the stations the RTA data was way off the mark. Don't rely on it (yet), though the CCC web site has real-time status. Overall, this (plus the light rail to/from BWI -- which connects to the CCC at the Convention Center) made a car-free weekend jaunt to B'more very do-able and enjoyable. read more

All i have to say is THANK JESUS!LOL This by far is the BEST transportation in Baltimore and it is FREE! If you have a smart phone I recommend downloading the free app for it-it tells you exactly when the bus is set to arrive and lets you know if it's going to be late. They have a purple route,green route,orange route and a water taxi that is set to run this summer.(not sure where the taxi goes yet.) These buses remind me of the Ocean City Buses.You would think because it is free that it would be all grimy and gross,both the bus and people.NOPE...well dressed people,clean and very nice drivers.If you are tired of driving around every time you wanna go out, i HIGHLY suggest using this free bus line.LOVE IT! Free bus service to all (some of) the touristy places in Baltimore. When the Orange Line opened a while back it was a great east/west line form Little Italy to Hollins Market. The Purple Line now runs from Penn station to Fed Hill and I'm waiting on the Green Line to open up Fells Point to the mix. These buses are always clean, the drivers are always friendly and they hit stops with more frequency than the MTA busses. I got nothin' but love for the CCC. And if you need it there's a water taxi CCC that takes you from Canton to Locust Point. Get in on it, Hon! (don't sue me) read more

CCC is a very sorry bus service. Very unreliable, you dont know when or even if its going to show up. Dont depend on CCC.

Alright, so one of the beauties of city lie is being able to walk to almost anything. Baltimore has so many great places to eat and see...but sometimes I am feeling lazy, and that's when the circulator saves the day. There are three routes that hit most of the main city. You can cruise to Lil Italy, Inner Harbor, Mount Vernon, Fed Hill, Fells Point and Harbor East. The buses are always clean, and I have even witnessed bus drivers not allowing "troubled passengers" onto the bus, so you don't have that gross city bus feel. They are also Hybrid buses, so I am guessing they are a little cleaner too...all I really know about buses, is that the wheels on the bus go round and round. Did I mention it's free? They also are pretty frequent, I usually don't wait longer than about 5-8 minutes, but if you are unsure when it is showing up...download their app on Android or IOS. If they had one going to Canton, they will get my fifth star. Good job Baltimore! If only all the taxes I paid went to such good uses! read more

It's free and took me everywhere I wanted to go. As an accidental tourist in a city under a state of emergency, this was a nice perk. Normally, I'd walk everywhere to get the flavor of the city through the soles of my feet, but given the recent unrest, this bus ride was charming and very much appreciated. read more

What a great resource!!! Baltimore wins my best transit award!! The routes are extensive. They are free. The busses are clean!! Most busses clearly announce the stops. Each stop is clearly marked by signs, most digital, making it easy to know where to pick up which line. The map of stops was helpful too. I highly recommend this. As a tourist it's all I needed. I saw so much, rode a bit on all the lines and wish my city had such a thing. read more

The first part of the ride was great, waited 5 minutes, the bus came and off we went. Now stranded in little Italy, been waiting 30 minutes at a stop with the orange and green line and not one bus has come by. Thinking of calling uber. Finally, at 40 minutes.... read more

Hi - We visited from Canada to watch a ball game and see the city. What an unexpected pleasure! Every city should have a circulator. We were able to see way more in the limited time we had by taking the Circulator! Super convenient, goes everywhere we wanted, and FREE to boot!. Needs to be better advertised! How the hell are you not giving the CCC 5 stars? Its free!!! Its also clean and easy to take. I just don't understand. I'm not sure how Baltimore can manage this free service but I salute the city for offering this to their residents and visitors. Incredibly useful. Thank you for making our stay here convenient and easy. Wait times varied the 7 or 8 times we took it but was always less than 20 minutes. first it was the orange route, and this seemed to be mostly beneficial to tourists. then, there was the purple route and this was huge to both tourists and residents. soon, there will even be a green route that'll help ppl to get to/from fell's. buses can be slow/late sometimes so I will check to see if it's just faster to walk. Luckily, I have an iPhone so I can just pull up their NextBus software on their website as I'm walking to the bus stop. also, i'm not sure if it's coincidence or not, but a lot of the new zipcar spots are located really close to CCC stops. a lesser known fact about the CCC is that they also sponsor a free boat that goes to fed hill, canton and fells. I don't know if it's really that useful for everyday trips but it's probably good for tourists or joy riders like me who just enjoy a free boat ride along the inner harbor. read more

Great option because it's free! Sometimes there are shady characters and weird smells, but it's a city bus and it's free. I usually travel the purple and orange line. If you're visiting the area, definitely take advantage of these buses. read more

The CCC is great, and takes you to all the major parts of the city. It runs pretty late but not forever, so be careful when planning your ride back home. There's a good mix of people on the bus, with no one, dominating demographic (there are students and professionals, different races, teenagers and older people, etc.) so it really feels like a community bus and safe to ride at any hour of the night. The NextBus app is awesome to use with CCC too. read more

Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I am a proud lover of the CCC! For anyone who lives downtown, save your money in parking and start using this bus. For any people from out of town, don't be scared. For any people who haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for? For people who like to drink and not drive, take it to your destination and cab it to your home. The hours are a little early for a weekend (ends at midnight), but the fact that our city is stepping it up and putting that parking meter money to good use is reason to not complain! read more

I use the CCC ALLL THE TIME. I currently don't have a bike and I've been hanging out near Mt. Vernon/ Station North Area a bit. 99.00% of the interactions I've had with CCC drivers have been perfectly pleasant but one time I asked a driver about a stop and he said "Say what?!" and proceeded to give me attitude the entire convo. Let me just say that back in the Bay Area bus drivers will either ignore you or give you minimal attention, which I would gladly take over being treated like I've offended you by asking a simple question. In terms of service I've been pleased but THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO RUN A LINE THAT GOES DOWN EASTERN STREET. I live at the South East corner of Patterson Park and let me tell you what a pain it is to walk all the way down to the Inner Harbor. Ive given up waiting for MTA buses except at night because they are chronically late. In any case, seriously build a line down eastern into Highlandtown!!! read more

I am getting so fed up with the Circulator. I have been riding the green route from Harbor East to Johns Hopkins every day for the past 6 months and the service has begun to deteriorate. Drivers frequently honk at cyclists and anyone who even standing near the sidewalk as they drive by. Drivers need to manage their road rage. I have been confronted by a driver for carrying a closed thermos (no drinking or eating on the bus) and humiliated in front of other riders. In one incident I was waiting at the bus stop and as the bus pulled up the driver quickly opened and shut the doors as I was approaching. When I knocked on the door and yelled to get his attention he scolded me for wasting his time even though I was clearly attempting to board before he shut the door. On a good day the smell of urine is merely faint. Many times I have waited up to 45 minutes for a bus to arrive. Sometimes there are 3 buses in a row and if you miss one of those you won't see another one for an hour. The service has been in place long enough for them to figure out how to space the buses evenly but this is evidently not the case. If you are calling your service "Fast. Friendly. Free." then only 1 out of 3 is a failing grade. At least I have not been charged for a ride yet. Update: I am furious about the change to the Green route. There was no signage on the buses or stops to announce the change to the Caroline St./Maritime Park stop and drivers don't seem to know how to navigate the new route. It is not necessary to stop at Maritime Park when traveling from Johns Hopkins towards Harbor East. This adds more time onto an already painful commute and the new stop does not improve access to any customers. The westbound stop at Caroline and Aliceanna was fine and it should remain in place. read more

My spouse and I used CC circulator bus to get from the parking garage to both Fort McHenry and the aquarium. At the bus stop, a man started smoking a joint, and then, while masturbating, would blow the smoke into his girlfriend's mouth. Then when we got on the bus and sat down, a man next to us started singing loudly. So we moved to another seat. The maybe 6-year-old boy we sat across from started masterbating. We were incredulous at the disgusting behavior of those who use this system. I doubt we will be back to Baltimore anytime soon. read more

This free bus was great when it first started. You could catch it every 15 or 20 minutes. Now, if you are trying to get somewhere on time, this is not dependable transportation. It can take up to an hour to arrive. What the app claims doesnt always help. It may claim 5 minutes for the next bus, then suddenly change to 30. This happens often in my years of experience on the green and orange routes. It may be fine for a lazy saturday. I keep trying it to get lucky but it can be frustrating. It's not consistant / hit or miss. Good luck! read more

The Circulator's only saving grace is that it is free, hence the 1 star (the "free-ness" does, however, attract drug addicts and foul-smelling homeless people, so this is not much of a saving grace). The other 4 stars were lost somewhere between 40-50 minutes ago, when the Charm City Circulator App said the next Green line bus would be arriving in front of Johns Hopkins in 8 MINUTES (I just got home... this is my rant... and this happens frequently. I'm just now deciding to let the world know how I feel about this POS transportation service). Moreover, these buses supposedly run every 10-15 minutes (this is a LIE). I take the green line 4/5 days of the week and I am 99/100 times waiting more than 40 minutes for the next bus. I also take the orange route occasionally, which seems to be a bit more reliable, however, does not say much at all with a 20-30 minute wait over half of the time. I honestly don't know why the bus is so unreliable: my (probably biased and uninformed) guess is that the (lazy, unorganized, lacking all forms of punctuality) bus drivers are taking frequent and lengthy breaks as often as they can (which, must occur directly before they pick me up... every time...). Objectively, I do not see why or how traffic could cause such ineptitude and inconsistency in Baltimore's public transportation; this kind of tardiness doesn't add up. I assume this transportation service is much more geared towards tourists, who are not concerned with timing, because if you need to be somewhere in the next HOUR-HOUR AND A HALF, take an Uber or drive (it's worth the money). read more

I am writing as a tourist. I did not find out about the Circulator until our 2nd of 3 days in Baltimore. I read the other reviews before riding. We thought it was great. How can you complain much about something that is free? The buses were clean. The drivers were friendly, smiling and greeting us each time we boarded. The buses ran frequently. The stops were good locations. There is one right across from Attmans! Another at Cross Street Market. Being a fairly seasoned traveler I use common sense and know better to travel public transit late at night and so forth. I do not mean to be offensive to anyone from Baltimore but there are a lot of unsavory types all around town. We did encounter some of these on the buses. They would talk loudly using profanity and language that is offensive to women. These types seemed to congregate in the back of the bus so my advice from my limited experience is to sit near the front or with all the other touristy white folks and have a map of the system so you know where you are going. And just my general observation of Baltimore-use caution. The atmosphere seems to change simply by crossing an intersection. But kudos to the Circulator for getting us where we want to go and saving our feet a little after a week of hoofing it in DC and Baltimore. read more

Terrible. No insurance for the passengers!!!!! We were recently, 07/20/11, in Baltimore as tourists from Phoenix, AZ on the purple bus. The bus driver slammed on the brake very abruptly; many people fell and got injured. I fell on top of my 7 yr old child and scraped her face with my backpack and broke my glasses ($525.00 for a new pair) Veolia Transportation, their contractor who provides the drivers, refused to allow me to file an incident report; they are not returning the calls, they carry liability insurance only (with Gallagher and Bassett). They have no coverage for the injuries sustained by the passengers. We came to the city at 11:00 am and had to terminate our vacation on the same day due to injuries. This service is EXTREMELY bad. The driver insisted that the bus does not follow the advertised route. Additionally, you can see the waiting time for the next bus go from 2 minutes to 1 minute to arriving and NO BUS EVER COMES! This service needs to be managed/babysat. It was free. That was nice. It got us where we needed to go. Also good. But the bus smelled like pee and was several homeless people on it, one who was smoking, and passed out. The bus driver also did not wait for me or my young daughter to find a seat and lurched forward causing us to almost fall into one of said homeless. Perhaps the Circulator is their home. It was a VERY hot day outside, so maybe the Circulator is supposed to function as an emergency homeless shelter in such conditions. But come on, isn't there a no smoking policy on the bus? At least the smoke covered some of the pee stench. Yuck. read more
