Charlton Deep Sea Charters is a very good charter company that gets you where the fish are biting. Captain Mark leads the charter daily and is every obviously knowledgable and works hard to accommodate the people he takes out. His boat is a 50 footer, well maintained and comfortable. All of the fishing equipment is modern and well maintained and his deck hand is quick to bait you up, lend a hand, net your fish and get them ready for the cooler. I went out for Salmon an it wasn't long after Captain Mark got us to his spot that I had the first fish of the day on. Mark's deck hand netted the fish and set my line back up and we were fishing again in no time. There were 9 people fishing and 5 caught fish. We would have caught more (two people lost theirs) but the deck hand too a hook into the arm that couldn't be removed and we had to head back to shore so he could get to the emergency room. The crew is friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. There is a lot of witty banter between the captain and the crew. On my charter there appeared to be a number of regulars on board and they happily joined in. The experience was not only good because we caught fish but fun. There are a few things that made me give this four stars instead of five (if I could only take off half a star I would, it really was a 4.5 for me). First, regardless your business today, not taking credit cards and making me send checks as a deposit and bring cash or check for final payment just isn't acceptable where nearly no one carries a checkbook or hundreds of dollars in cash in their wallet. Raise the price $5 to cover processing fees, don't make me go out of my way to pay. Also, you probably lose way more in tips than you do in processing fees. I don't like paying credit card fees either but it is the way of the world. Second, communication leading up to the trip could have been more complete. This was only a small issue but the experience starts at the sale, not at the boat. Also, you needed to bring you own snacks, lunch and drinks. I feel like that at this price at least drinks and light snacks should be included. All that said, my partner and I really enjoyed the trip and we will be fishing with Captain Mark many more times I'm sure. This was my first charter experience... and there is no way it could have been better! My group and I had an amazing time! It doesn't hurt that we all caught our limit of salmon (yum!). Captain Mark and Nick are both great guys that really know what they are doing aaaaaand work hard to make sure everyone (even the newbs) have the best time possible and the best opportunity to catch fish. I can't wait to go again, and when I do, it will be with Charlton charters! read more
