Synopsis: Okay mall food court fare, but there are several better choices to be had that doesn't include the heartburn of dealing with Charleys staff. Fuddrucker's anyone?
Quite simply the worst dining experience I have had in a very long time. We have been frequent patrons of Charleys Philly Steaks both in Erie and Buffalo, but it was our recent trip to the Erie, PA location that will end our association. As frequent diners, we took advantage of the "Buy 7 sandwiches get the 8th free" promotion where they give you a punch card to keep track of. Well, today was the 8th sandwich day and I have to say I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the young lady at the register was very new and unfamiliar on how to ring up the free sandwich. With that we I ordered another sandwich, 1 fry, 1 drink and a cup of water for which she wanted to charge me nearly 15$. When I questioned this the cashier summoned the manager (A tattooed and pierced young lady with a chip on her shoulder). The manager then schooled ME on how we SHOULD HAVE ordered as to not throw off THEIR cashier. I asked her if they could just cancel the order and we would start over. That is apparently impossible for some reason so the manager took pencil and paper to figure out how much they thought I owed. The cashier then made change out of her register and handed it to me BEFORE I even paid (I could have taken the 'change' without paying thereby essentially stealing $14 and lunch if I had different parents). In the end, the order was incorrect and missing the fries. When I asked about them (the fries) the aforementioned manager became verbally abusive saying we never ordered fries (we did) and said if we wanted fries we would have to go back and stand in line to pay for them (got the impression here she was insinuating we intended to steal fries off them). It was interesting how a person who asked us to be patient with a new cashier suddenly could not imagine that same cashier made a mistake and left off fries that were ordered. Would it have really been that difficult to give us a small fry especially after a lengthy and confusing experience ordering? I told the manager the cashier needed help (meaning more training and supervision until she was familiar with the register) but I was dismissed with a condescending wave of the hand as the manager turned and walked away.
No mall food court lunch is worth this aggravation. Best to steer clear and sample some of the other fine offerings available. You won't be sorry.
Happy to report the Millcreek Mall food court is completely handicap accessible. read more
