I haven't been to Charleys in years, but what I remembered was a really good Philly Cheesesteak. So I ordered me a Philly Cheesesteak and the sandwich was not the same. When I opened up my sandwich I was caught off guard to see the lettuce and tomato inside my sandwich. I love lettuce and tomato, just not on my Philly Cheesteak. I guess to be fair we ordered our sandwiches online and then went to pick it up versus ordering at the site and telling a physical worker what I want on my sandwich. The sandwich didn't taste the same from what I remembered. It was lacking the grilled peppers and onions and it was a little bit on the dry side. Would I come back? I probably would like to and hope this was just a bad day. I remember loving this place and would go out of my way just to make it to the mall for a Philly Cheesesteak from Charleys. I'm not a mall person, so if I come just for the sandwich then I want my sandwich to be all that and some. I know they are still thriving because all these years they are still here and other spots have come and gone in the Oasis. I go here on my lunch break most days. It does take a little time but you can see they are making it fresh in front of you. I have never had a bad meal here. I always get the chicken cheesesteak and add teriyaki sauce on the side. If you need to add ranch or sauce make sure to tell them while paying because it is $.50 per sauce. We elected for the regular size cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms. The roll was very fresh and exactly right for the sandwich. We tried to come and eat here but they refused to serve us because we didn't have masks on. I mean, we are there to eat, they are behind protective plexiglass, wearing their own masks, and everyone in the food court is eating without masks. They didn't know our circumstances as to why we didn't have masks, as we usually mask up everywhere. I asked if they could provide us masks, which they declined. Instead, they denied my clearly hungry 1yo child from being able to eat. I will definitely make it known the denial of service to my starving 1yo child. And I will point out we went to another restaurant, clearly again without masks, and even though we couldn't be seated, we were allowed to order to go, and the waitress offered bread and nibbles to my child while we waited. 5 stars because I seriously can't get enough of their Philly cheesesteak subs! I come to Bakersfield from time to time and everytime it's a ritual that I stop by the mall and grab a steak sub. I kept wondering why I crave this place and I think it's the bread and steak. The bread is so fluffy and light and the meat is lean but plentiful. After I'm done eating, I'm full but also I feel good. Ive tried other steak subs where I just feel gross and fat. Plus the staff is great. Always smiling or laughing and they look like they really enjoy working with each other.
