Was going to buy a car with The "Chapman Discount". NO!!! Was looking at car listed on the internet at 20,825.00. Seemed like a good deal, add in 0.0% apr (which i qualified for). Great deal. When we went to do the "actual" deal, the price now was 23,515.00. Take off the 2000.00 factory incentives. WAIT - where is the Chapman price??? Add the Negative equity in my 2011 Toyota Camry, Ok, (not looking so good, but workable). Now came the fees, they came so fast i could not write them all down. 146.32 662.45 210.30 389.00 2110.00 (yes it is 2110.00 for a title) 350.00 (for plates) My head is spinning, fees at 3868.07?????? I came here two years ago and bought my wife's car. Great experience. Pete in the service department, best I have ever seen. The service department as a whole is the Great, we drive in from Verrado out in Buckeye just to have our car serviced here. What happened? Sales is just awful, run from here as fast as you can. Do not waste your time, there are so many others dealers in the valley! Run! I am running as fast as I can! I do not like to be talked down to or treated as they did me some kind of favor. Their insistent repeating of the same words and double speak does not change that they are overcharging on the deal. Listen, just saying it over and over does not make it true. I also drive about 45 minutes to use Chapman to service my girlfriend's Mazda. We bought her car here about February of last year and forced the salespeople to stay there until like 1 in the morning at the end of the month before they closed us. I trust their service department to a certain extent. When we test drove my girlfriend's car before buying it, none of the salespeople were available to join me so they asked a service guy to accompany me. This service guy wasn't very professional but he did let me really test drive the car by pushing it to its limits. I have worked with some extremely friendly service guys here though, especially this heavier set guy who was very knowledgeable about Mazdas. The salespeople weren't very forthcoming about the reliability of the car we went their to buy, although we did go into the sale knowing that we would need to be very diligent about maintenance being that it is a rotary engine car. What I am most upset about is that they straight up lied to me about how they thought the value would hold up with the car. Several months after we bought her car, the KBB dropped about $5K. So screw you guys for that, won't buy another car from you because of that. Pretty shady, but I have worked sales and I know what you guys have to do sometimes, I guess I was just a victim this time. But I will continue to have the car serviced here because I am OCD about having my service records be from the same dealership every time. You got me with the 10 dollar oil changes. read more

I drive 45 minutes to use Chapman to service my Mazda, even though there's another dealership closer to me, just down the road on Camelback. After multiple encounters with horrid customer service at Camelback Mazda, I decided to try Chapman--and I was happy from the start. Pete Pabst, the service advisor I have worked with, is great. He made sure that my first repair would be covered by our warranty before they started working on our car, which I really appreciated. I was wary of him trying to up-sell me when he let me know what other repairs our car needed, but he put no sales-type pressure on at all. He made a list of the repairs in order of importance and gave me pricing. When I told him I wasn't too car savvy and needed to go home and talk to my husband, he didn't judge or try to take advantage. The rest of the staff seems just as friendly and helpful. When we got our tires replaced, they explained all of the different options, what they would do, how much they were. In the end, the ones that they recommended the most were actually some of the least expensive tires offered. Honest and good service...just wish it was closer to home! read more

I actually had a very pleasant buying experience at Chapman, and 2+ years later we are still happy with our CX-5. However, service department is another story. This is so clearly a profit center for them (which is not surprising) that they are borderline abusive about it. I get far more calls and emails than I could ever want, though it has gone down some since I've asked to be removed from the list. The big problem is the ridiculous up-sell gauntlet that I have to run every single time I talk to anyone. I perform my own maintenance, and created a schedule with my mechanic to make sure everything would stay on track. I've explained this at least FOUR times to the same person during a SINGLE warranty service. Still, they have a checklist of ripoff maintenence schedule items I had to say no to all four times. Flush brake system and change fluid at 28k miles? With no issues reported? Seriously? There were about 10 things like this, and they kept thinking of ways to bring them up. Chapman is conveniently located for me, but I think I'm going to have to try Camelback for the next issue because I just don't want the hassle. read more

I've been a loyal Chapman Mazda customer since I moved to AZ. I'm not one for paying more than I should. At the same time, I don't believe in doing things on the cheap. I have used Chapman's service for my 2017 CX-3 since purchase and I could not be more pleased by the attention to detail, the value for my money, and the overall great customer service. They have often gone above and beyond to take care of both me and the car. They continue to impress me and 5 years on, my car continues to run like new. read more

please pass the word along not to purchase from chapman mazda dealership. this is ridiculous. a month has gone by and our trade in loan has still not been paid off, and we have received disrespectful runaround from all employees contacted. the late payment hit our credit report and we are still waiting for the payoff so we can call all three credit bureaus to resolve our credit score points declining, as well as creating a formal complaint with the better business bureau. my husband and i both received calls from the dealership trying to sell us the car we traded in and the car we already purchased. we have 4 mazda purchases in the family and have never had an issue before this dealership. will never buy from chapman again!!!! do not recommend to anyone! In other forums, Sales Manager Kevin asked me to call him. Phone call with Kevin didn't go so well. He didn't apologize, take accountability or offer help. Just talked about how this never happens... this is so bizarre.... we sell 281 cars a month and only have 2 GIRLS in accounting (why did he need to say girls?) Well, hire more personnel, or more effective ones if needed. And if you're selling that many cars you should know the trade in payoff timeline and should be informing your customers if and when that timeline might be cutting it close to their next payment date. Payoff dates should also be used to help prioritize which loans need to be paid off first so your customers don't have to deal with this issue. Kevin was more concerned about which employees under him weren't doing their job on the sales floor and who was making the excessive phone calls. We're annoyed by that, but the car still wasn't paid off and that was our priority. No offer was made to help reimburse the late payment they caused us. No offer to provide proof that they sent payoff. No offer to provide proof to use to settle this issue against our credit report. He said he would check on the payoff and who was calling us and "call me right back". That was 2 days ago. And still... my husband is getting phone calls to buy back the trade in that we gave them, even today. Trade in payoff did finally clear our account today, 9/13, even though we purchased the car on 8/10. I'm glad it's paid off. Finally. However... Without any sort of apology, no returned phone calls as promised, continued calls to buy back our trade in, and the fact that we are left with paperwork to file to fix our credit... I'm going to leave our low rating as it stands for all public review forums and continue to urge my friends not to purchase a Mazda from this dealership. I have visited/called 4 times all four a disaster under previous and new management. First I had a Mitsubishi lease, I dropped off my car for end of lease inspection. 6 hours later I go to pick it up it had not be done. They wanted to to look at new cars. I drop it off again 4 hours later no call I picked it up they said they had not gotten to it yet. I needed up dropping it at another dealer 1 hour later done, needed up buying a new car there. Next time I call service department for tires for my Mitsubishi they transfer me to parts. I ask about tires he says what size, I saw I have no idea. His smart ass response well not sure why your talking to me they put four different sizes on those cars so once you know what you want let me know. And proceeds to tell me they are no longer Mitsubishi anyway. So rude and the attitude is horrible. So I call the Manager Sam, and Start to tell him about my only 3 experiences with this place he interrupts me to ask why I am calling well to tell you about your horrible service. Then he says we are under new management and have excellent customer service now. I disagreed. Then says not sure what you are tying to accomplish. When I told him I was doing a review and writing a letter I asked for his name 7 times and he refused to give it to me. I called back and got the manager on duties name. He never apologized. 3 words for the Chapman Mazda Service Department: BAIT AND SWITCH! I purchased a brand new Mazda a few years back and have gotten all of my maintainces done by them. With the purchase of my new CX-9, I got LIFETIME Oil Changes for $10! What a great deal! I know that by going to the dealership they will find new and ingenious ways to bring that cost up by finding things wrong with it. I was fine with that. HOWEVER...when I went in on Saturday morning, they found no other things to fix. Great. I go to pay for it and it's $36+. This is nearly 4 times the cost of my $10 LIFETIME Oil Change. I was told by the service writer that they got rid of that plan and no longer honor it. Needless to say, I will no longer be going to the dealership to purchase anything or get my repairs done there. Also, I will not be buying another Mazda because of this. read more

I stopped in with a couple of goals in mind. I ended up there for 2 hours with misinformation and was unable to accomplish half of what I wanted to. Any question that I had about lease pricing or models required a 15+ minute trip to the managers office. Multiple times I called Camelback Mazda while waiting and had the answer 10 minutes before my salesman returned from the managers office. If you don't have the information, that's fine, let me talk to the person that does or just take down my info and find out on your time. I was one of two people on the lot in two hours. If the manager had the answers I should have been talking to him. I am not a fan of wasting time or playing games. I think that I prefer to do my shopping online or with a company like Toyota where information is accessible and shared. I can then use that information to make an informed decision after detailed comparison. No games or disrespect. My salesman seemed fairly nice and personable but was either not competent and a hindrance to the process or playing stupid games. Either way, that doesn't work for me. read more

I went into the dealership to look at a car. I spoke with Bill to see what vehicles were available. If I could rate this dealership a negative 10, I would. Bill's customer service was terrible. I wanted to view a vehicle and I was denied the opportunity to LOOK because I would not give him my drivers license. He said it was mandatory that you give your license in order to VIEW the vehicle. I would not recommend anyone to spend their money at this dealership. When I refused to give my license, Bill threw up his hands and said "well, you can't see the car then. Have a good day. Goodbye". Drove from Ahwatukee all the way to Bell Rd. to buy a used Mazda CX-5 from another dealer. The other dealer told me the car was there at lunch time, but said it was sold after I made the 45 minute drive. Out of curiosity, if not frustration, I stopped in Chapman Mazda to see if they had any used CX-5s. No luck with the used car, but one of the managers, Kim, suggested I might be surprised at what they could do on a new one. Honestly figured the price would be more than I'd be willing to pay for new, but after putting numbers together we were closer than I'd imagined. Eventually I paid just a little more than the used car I was originally going to buy! This is our second new Mazda from Chapman and both times felt like I was dealing with friendly professionals and not the typical high pressure smoke and mirrors types employed at some other dealers. I'd certainly recommend Chapman Mazda. The whole experience was about as pleasant as car buying can get. read more

Chase not only didn't listen to the things that we had spoke. About like calling me with a price quote with oil change and or things that warrenty didn't cover. My tire needed to be changed because of a nail so he couldn't do my requested car diagnostics. Ok well I understand the policy of Mazda however I'm having a hard time financially and I bought a used tire and brought it with me and because of policy again he said his manager didn't. Allow a perfectly good tire to be replaced. I explained to him I'll go get it fix. He then ignored the go way and beyond policy you have and didn't even bother to try to make a new appointment . Actually he seemed aloof and disconnected that I only had the loaner washed and gassed up due to having it fmduring the weekend when your service department is closed on sundays. I did call and convey a message to the answering service the day he called and said that my car was done. Which is wasn't. I have the message voicemail. I left upset and unhappy! I not only didn't get my oil changed or the requested diagnostics handled in my vehicle . I completely felt obsolete and unimportant to not only the second car I purchased with Mazda but he didn't understand why I was upset. I went up and down trying to afford a tire and then the price of oil etc etc. I left to get the tire hanged but didn't return because I've been completely discouraged with this company not only with the service department but your core values! I'm so upset even writing this thing that when I purchased both cars I was given and told the impression that you. Your core values would be that of a satisfied customer. My wife and I were negotiating on a new Hyundai at Chapman. She needed to depart and I stayed to continue the discussions. Ten minutes later she texted to ask me if I would walk outside and down a 1/2 block to Chapman Mazda. Amazingly she saw their beautiful crossover and had to take a look. Michael Knox, their Fleet/Online Manager, approached her and she told him what I was doing at their sister store. He was unfazed and very genuine. We ended up taking a test drive and while the vehicle was a bit small for our liking, Michael never pushed even though he advocated how great his Brand was. Good for him. Buying a new car and selling your trade-in is an adversarial experience: Dealer wants to charge you as much as possible and give you as little as possible for your trade-in; you want the opposite. But, a good sales experience can help mitigate this mano-a-mano. Rob, our salesman, was very professional and knowledgeable, with long experience and good empathy with us. Of course the dealership's initial price for the new car was too high, and the offer for our trade-in was too low, but Rob immediately sensed our dissatisfaction. We settled on a deal acceptable to both. He went the extra mile for us. Buying and selling cars will never be pleasant for us, but this experience was, to the extent possible, a good one. read more

I called Chapman Mazda on Tuesday talk to Jacob the salesman that answered the phone that I wanted to buy the Jeep Cherokee they had for sale. I am already pre-approved with a credit union I will not be financing through them and want to know what I have to do to hold that car for my bank to reach out to them on Wednesday. I was told to come down test drive the car and sign a contract to "just" hold the car. My mother father and I drove down to test drive the car it had minor things that needed to be fixed but was an easy fix. My mother and father left and I went inside to "just" hold the car and that was it. But as soon as I sat down I started to be hounded about financing numbers terms and loan amounts. I told Jacob 3 times, I was already pre approved through my credit union and im not sign anything. A sales manager approached me and started to tell me at 830pm at night that they can call or electronically work with the bank and handle all my paperwork for me. I told him no he wont be doing that, the bank is closed we wont be talking to anyone and I left. Jacob followed me to my car and knocked on my window as I was leaving, I shook my head no at him and continued to leave. Jacob called me the next day I told him I don't appreciate being hounded the second my father leaves and he advised that he didn't understand what was going on and wasnt sure how to handle a pre approval. I told him I would have my bank contact them Im not dealing the dealer any longer til the car is paid for. I went to my bank Wednesday afternoon had them handle all the paperwork contracts warranty, etc with the dealer. I went back to dealer to pick up the Jeep get my tags and registration. Jacob did have the minor things fixed, dome lights and rotate tires. He had me sign multiple things as expected and then I went finance, to as expected to sign my paperwork. The finance woman proceed to ask me personal questions about what my interest rate is, my monthly payment, how much I paid for my warranty, etc. I told her im not sure the amount and my not disclosing my interest rate to her. She decides to put down the decision process to finance my car. I smile and nodded got my keys and left. The next morning I leave to go to work and noticed that my car is not driving correctly and it driving rough when in reverse. I take it to my mechanic and find out that the Jeep's motor mounts and struts all the way around and completely shot and that the dealer should have fixed this prior to selling, this kind of work would cost me close to $1000. I take the diagnostic form to the Mazda service dept and talk to Justin in service. Justin walked me right into new car sales and has me talk to Paul Dodge, sales manager. I showed the diagnostics form and what was wrong with the Jeep and what needed to be fixed. Paul asked me "Well your dad was here and test drove the car with you and he said anything was okay so whats the problem?" I told Paul, "Yes my father was here to test drive the car with me, but what does that have to do with anything?" My father come with me to test drive and car and help with the process is only a problem because you cant swindle a women and you wouldnt say anything about my father if he was sitting here with me right now. Paul refused to fix the problem with my Jeep and I had the Jeep for less than 12 hrs, I would have to fix the motor mounts and struts on my own dime. He told me that by law he didn't have to fix the car, so I told Paul to show me that law. He walked away and had Rita the customer service employee come speak to me and she told me that she understands how im feeling since women have to be careful in males dominated industries. I told her I wanted the car fix or take it back, she said she cant do that, that I bought a warranty and I would have to use that to get it fix. Then she tells me that Chapman Mazda has a "As is" clause in their contracts that was not explained to me at time of purchase by Jacob. This clause to my understanding is a per location dealership decision. First time that I have heard of this clause from any dealer. Rita advised that they aren't going to take the car back and that can I would have pay for the problem myself or use my warranty that I received thru my credit union. I decided to leave the dealer after talking to Rita has we were at a stale mate and Paul was being disrespectful to me and my father. I feel very strongly that Paul and his employees were disrespectful to me because I decided not to finance through them or buy a warranty through them and because they couldn't make money off me they decided to treat me unfairly. Jacob needs to have more training on explaining processes to his customers and understanding what pre-approvals from outside institutions are. I would advised anyone in the future to make sure you ask about their "As Is" clause and what that entails for you specifically. read more

I write this with mixed feelings. Sales: I would never buy a car from them again. The salesmen lied to us and promised us a rebate we never got. He even promised to buy us lunch if we came back and he lied about that! (it was a measly $10!). The sales manager is no better and doesn't stand behind what his salesmen promise. They will lie just to make a sale. Service: Wow. Best service I have ever received. Only went back the first time because I needed some warranty work done, but the staff here is great- especially Jennifer. My car is always ready when promised and if it isn't, she will give me a loaner. She is always friendly and helpful and goes above and beyond.
