The Pirate Boat Ride - Look for the Pirate signs!

    The Pirate Boat Ride

This was a great first boat ride for our baby boy. It's only 40 minutes so we didn't have to worry…read moreabout bringing anything or about the kiddo being on the boat longer than he would want. It was really laid back and chill; no scary pirates, only a funny one. While we were waiting to board, we saw fish, crab and a small octopus, about 15 inches long- so cool! The captain was really nice- even helped me on the boat with my baby. He told some really cute pirate jokes and pointed out birds and dolphins as we slowly cruised the harbor. Then he let the kids take turns at the wheel, letting them wear his pirate hat. Wasn't too cold, as the front windows are covered. Would do this again for sure!

Well, I do have to say, the marketing for this "excursion" is very well written. Too bad the actual…read moreevent wasn't nearly as exciting. Our loading time was 12:00, waiting for about 5 minutes to see if anybody else was going to join us. Captain Dave then took all boarding passes, payments, vouchers, etc. Also tried selling some Pirate gear for an additional $5.00 each - things that you can get at the Dollar Tree--all which took another 5 minutes or so. All the kids received pirate stickers though. While leaving, (12:10) the narration started - "see the seal", umm yeah-he's been swimming around for the last 30 minutes. Didn't narrate anything else, other than tell 3 pirate jokes and pointed out the fishermen on the rocks and what could possibly be caught. Rode up to the the break water, blew the horn to scare the birds so they could fly, the Captain says it's like being in the movie "The Birds". Turned around and floated by the kids beach, Coast Guard Station, the fueling dock, then he let the kids drive the boat for about 45 seconds each. Not really narrated much of anything - mainly because he was on the phone most of the time. We got back to the dock at 12:37. So--with leaving late and coming back early - I would say we were shorted 15 minutes. This company either needs another person go along on the rides or stay at dock to answer the phone and actually write down who and how many are coming for the next trip. Dave took about 6 business calls, pretending to write down the name and how many in the party; took 2 personal calls and made additional calls. Too busy to narrate anything that way. This 30 minute tour was nothing like what we were expecting. Captain Jack Sparrow would be embarrassed. AAARRRRRRRGH!

Not the location or marina itself but the boat club staff is horrendous!!! They make sure you don't have fun and only allow you in if you're the boat owner (so let's say a husband owns a boat, well if his wife wants to go with their kids they will not let her stay because her husband isn't there). They blame customers for things that go wrong when in reality things do just break. I will never ever recommend this place to any single soul... not even people I dislike should be treated as disgustingly by any staff. They definitely take the U out of fun.....

We are now adding our newer boat we bought last week, and will arrive this Sunday. We are so ecstatic Anacapa has room for us again on B Dock. The staff is outstanding, always helpful and professional, and the numerous amenities are excellent. We can't wait to see our old friends and definitely look forward to making new ones on B Dock. Thanks to Brian with Peninsula Yacht Sales for putting the deal together for us on our boat, and for referring Les who is piloting our boat down from Monterey with Andy and his son, Tommy. A very special thanks to Lucy with Anacapa Isle Marina for meeting our needs and welcoming us back to the best marina in Channel Islands Harbor. We can't wait to see you all again soon! Jude T

Story time... I…read morepulled into the Channel Islands Harbor one day because I had an early dinner reservation at Moqueca. I parked my car near the boat slips and was about to head over when I spy an automatic weapon laying against a trash can. I have called the non emergency police number and the man on the line seemed to have better things going on than to deal with me. He actually requested I pick up the gun to confirm it was a real weapon. There was no way I was going to pick up an automatic weapon in the middle of the harbor, with families around, during the daytime, get my fingerprints all over it and make any kind of judgements. Mind you, the weapon had no orange tip, which I mentioned multiple times to the man I was on the phone with. Eventually I hung up and drove around until I came across a harbor patrol truck. The man (never got his name) came right over and grabbed the gun. It thankfully, wasn't real, it was an Airsoft gun somebody just ditched near the trash after presumably breaking it. The harbor patrol assured me they would destroy and dispose of it. Even an Airsoft gun could do damage if a child had found it and played with it. Some of them are gas powered and shoot high velocity pellets. It was great dealing with them and my only real personal experience with the Channel Islands Harbor Patrol other than various meetings during sailing trips or boat parties which always go smoothly. I have nothing but high praise for them and hope they continue to impress. Cheers!
