Midwestern career college is a great place. I recently had a chance to visit its campuses and learn…read moreabout its programs. It is amazing how it is the only college in Chicago that has a Surgical Technology and EEG Tech programs. The retention and graduation rates well exceed those of its competitors, including community colleges. The staff and faculty take pride in serving their students and enabling them to begin their careers in healthcare, and now in IT and business. It's definitely a great value proposition for this who thing the traditional college is not the right path for them.

As first time parents, we were anxious about daycares and thoroughly researched all nearby options before landing here. We absolutely love this school/daycare! The teachers are so attentive, experienced, and kind. Our son loves each teacher he has had and enjoys going to school everyday. As parents, we trust they have his safety and development in mind. Since starting, he has been coming home with new sign language, words, and preacademic skills (e.g., shapes, letters) constantly. We especially love the academic and events programming. From weekly themes, science lessons, to holiday events (e.g. Valentine's Day dance, Easter egg hunt). I know the older kids go on field trips too. The school also offers organic meals that our picky eater actually enjoys! Personally, it was also very important for our biracial son to attend a school with diverse peers and teachers. He's class is made up of 80% mixed race classmates which is incredible! We couldn't have asked for a better daycare!

The organization employs professional artists with backgrounds in various disciplines who have experience working with children. Artists specialized in music, painting, poetry, mixed-media, video production, puppetry, fabric, printmaking and short story writing. Each year, the organization holds a posh gallery night and invites the patients and their families to mingle with the public and speak about their art. It's not too often that many of these children get an opportunity to share their experiences with large audiences. The organization offers patients and families the opportunity to forget being at a hospital and to enjoy creating art with professional artists to guide them. Overall, a great organization that places emphasis on the individual and helps find the artist in every child.

Our story: Years ago we took our son to Black Bear Academy for an "evaluation" which consisted of…read morehis spending a few hours in the school with a group of total strangers---both kids and teachers. We were called in to learn the results of the evaluation, and were told that: Our son was abnormally shy because he, as a 4 year old, clung to a teacher. His behavior and demeanor was such that he would require a minimum of $40k per year of classroom instruction and private therapy, and there was "no guarantee that he would ever approximate normal." Fast forward: Our son is a lively, healthy, happy, achieving college freshman. Why am I imparting this years later? 1) Beware a school founded by a person who has limited credentials. 2) Beware a school that makes a snap judgment based upon limited observation. 3) Beware a school which tells you that your child is essentially beyond hope. Our son thrived at Cardinal Bernardin Montessori where his individual learning style was appreciated and nurtured. Before you allow any school to "pathologize" your child, look elsewhere!

Instructor Mike was also wonderful and brought such a beautiful, positive, and encouraging energy to the class. What stood out most to me was that the school is located within the urban community. Programs like this are truly necessary because they bring valuable education, resources, and entrepreneurial opportunities directly into communities that can greatly benefit from them. Flexibility in the care options is super important to us as well. Our little girl has a health condition that the center have been AMAZING at dealing with and I have had no concerns about their ability to manage it during the day - she has been making awesome progress. The communication, information and authentic approach means a lot. I personally feel that there are some people that have little to no appreciation for how much goes into caring for other peoples children. Lovely director, great safe space, transparent communication and caring teachers!

Harmony has become our favorite play school. We have gotten to know Ginny and Maddie, and…read moreappreciate their efforts at creating a learning environment that is also fun, clean and safe for the toddler sessions. My son is part of the two days/week session, and it seems to be the right fit for us. We tried one day/week, as well as three days/week, but found the 2days/week session was enough for our 1 year old. You have options to create a schedule for your child, which is magnificent! Harmony is Montessori-based, so you will not find any commercialized cartoons or music here. They do have a music box with kid-oriented classical music on cards the children tend to play with (somewhat like the Tonies box). They have books and reading nooks in different spaces, toy stations throughout, and the kids tend to go and come as they please. There are group reading and singing/playing opportunities for the children, but mostly it is open play. My son enjoys seeing his friends here every week, and I think this is the best part of Harmony. There is a sense of community, with the majority of the children being locals. We are grateful for Harmony play school!

Everything is Montessori focused so no worries on screens or commercial characters de-focusing your children from meaningful play and socialization. I love the coffee/office space area for grown-ups to get some work done, even if it is just to read a quiet book or check some emails. What I love most though is their schedule/roster of events. Beyond just work and play, they offer tutoring and after school care, which is a unicorn of a find in the city. The place is so clean and well cared for, there's a consistent theme/vibe that's so welcoming. Will 100% be back and be spreading the word!
