Dr. Jayaraman (pronounced "Jay Ram") is a dark haired angel who wears a white that wears lab coat…read more She has intelligent eyes and a winning smile. What else? Well, she has taken care of me three times: one endoscopy and two colonoscopy treatments. Each of my treatments was painless and with no fear. Before the endoscopy, I had problems swallowing. After the treatment, I can once again wolf my food like a 17 year old! (Fortunately, I have slightly better sense than a 17 year old, so I take small bites and masticate thoroughly before the swallow.) The two colonoscopy treatments were 5 years apart. She cauterized a radiation burn from a previous cancer treatment that I had so the wound would stop bleeding. I didn't know that could be done! When she told me that she cauterized the wound, I felt like one does on those rare occasions when you enjoy a fine dinner and the waiter brings out a special dish saying, "Here, chef prepared this special for you." I thought nothing could be done about it. With each treatment, Dr. Jayaraman provides a travelogue with photos of the procedures suitable for showing your friends! A picture of the digestive system that we all studied in the 7th grade with little numbers at scenic locations inside the colon showing the attractions: "Stop off at #2 to see the radiation burn. Stop at #4 to see a polyp and #8 is the end of the line where the colon meets the small intestines. The same photo journey came with the endoscopy also, but for some reason, I did not find that as interesting as the colon. After the treatments, Dr. Jayaraman will come to give a debrief of the operation. Have someone you trust be there to listen to the debrief because the drugs will still be working their magic. I do remember after the endoscopy she was concerned if I had felt anything. I told her that I did feel something and her face changed to concern, for which I assured her that what it was I felt was that feeling you get after you swallow a bite of a potato. I was impressed that she is so driven that each operation has to be done perfectly. (Not at all like those British doctors who think they are veterinarians... and I suppose the comparison is disrespectful to veterinarians all over the world.) What are those treatments like? I smiled when I told my friend that I was going in for the colonoscopy last week. He said, "You know, I really enjoyed it last time I went!". I secretly enjoyed each treatment also. The preparation of the cleanse is not fun, but the "Big Day" of having the nurse give you dedicated attention asking questions, poking you and attaching monitors gives one a sense of the leading man in a stage play. Being wheeled into the operation room everyone is cheerful and all about business. I had hardly the time to reflect about the thrill of being naked in a darkened room with 3 lovely ladies, music and drugs when I woke up and it was all over. That's always the way it is. Like a pleasant dream. That's why I look forward to 2025 when I can return to visit my Sutter sirens and Dr. Jayaraman.

I do know that several Dr's in the practice retired and relocated around the time of the pandemic, and there was a time, that getting in and seeing someone was challenging since they did not have enough Dr's. That being said, I have had two Dr's at this practice since my first Dr (whom I loved) relocated. My new Dr, (Dr Ramirez), is wonderful and I feel like he is knowledgeable and a great advocate for my health. The office staff is great, warm and friendly, and the PA's I have worked with are top notch. Whatever issues they had during and after the pandemic due to the small number of Dr's in the practice at that time are resolved. Chico has had challenges in many practices getting and keeping Dr's in our area. This practice has done everything they could possibly do to address this issue. They even had a traveling Dr come for about a year to get patients caught up on colonoscopies and other procedures. I feel confident with my Doctor and the practice. They are doing great now!

He actually accused me for being late getting my wheelchair bound mother there. I had arrived exactly on time, after checking in online the previous night. I had to wait 4 minutes to get checked in, so he said we were 4 minutes late! Seriously! He claimed he didn't have enough time to deal with my complicated 89 year old mother who is suffering in PAIN. No compassion and serious control issues! Don't go there if you don't have to!
