What a find this place is! This is food about as good as it gets and the menu is ever changing…read morebased on what is locally available. The menu is simple and perfect, a choice of a 6 course or 8 course tasting menu; with a wine pairing option. They will happily alter to suite vegetarians etc. Everything we had, from a light broad bean and mint velouté soup, 20 minute sugar/salt cured fresh mackerel blow touched to crisp the skin, local beef and two deserts was outstanding. The staff were very professional, knowledgable and helpful. Decor is modern, clean and very attractive. There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about this place. Apparently others feel the same way, it is becoming extremely difficult to get a reservation. Interestingly the kitchen is open and a hive of activity. Steven Edwards (an award winning British chef) and his team clearly know what they are doing and are not afraid to experiment and surprise. For example; bread is a light, warmed brioche bun with a glossy Marmite glaze. Absolutely stunning, especially considering I do not like Marmite! My wife, daughter and me spent a very enjoyable 3 hours dinning at Etch and left very happy and pleasantly surprised. The 8 course tasting menu is not over indulgent, just right for anyone with a normal appetite. You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Yelp have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places that make me happy and appreciate life. Sure, I have been to some really awful restaurants, but, like I said, life is too short to spend time thinking and writing about them

I'm not a fan of chain pubs in general and The Slug and Lettuce is unlikely to change my mind. The…read moredecor is bland and generic and the atmosphere is nothing special. The two things it has over other chains is outdoor seating for spring and summer days and an extensive menu including sharing platters. Naturally, the dishes lean towards easy fresh and frozen foods but on a sunny day - it's an okay place to catch up with a friend over lunch.

The Slug & Lettuce brand is reliably above average. This particular pub-cum-restaurant is decidedly…read moreugly from the outside, but that just seems to be the case with the majority of the businesses on George Street. This town high street hosts particularly uninspired architecture, which makes the Slug & Lettuce look, well, rather sluggish. Step inside however and you're thankfully transported from the dullness and taken to a place that is gentle and simplistic in its tastefulness. Although more expensive than some other chain pubs, like the terrible Weatherspoons across the way, the Slug & Lettuce does still offer value for money. The food is tasty enough - though best suited for lunch rather than a romantic evening meal. The staff are a friendly enough bunch, though rather quiet, but this is not such a bad thing. Overall this is a solid 3-star affair. If you're on the high street and want a quick drink or bite to eat for less than £10 a head, you're sorted. If you're after a fancier job, then go somewhere along Church Road instead.

We came on half-priced prosecco night, sweet!! We were able to sit and chat and relax after a day of travels. The table next to us happened to order everything on the small bites menu, so we got a good view of the options. The steak pie was outstanding!!! Very tasty and comforting. I didn't need much gravy but it was all delicious. Loved the homemade focaccia and smashed potatoes. This was a perfect option for us!!

An amazing British pub!! With food and service above a traditional pub standard. Came here after a…read moreday of walking around Brighton in crowds of people and loved the local vibe of this pub. The clientele seemed to be regulars that knew each other and the staff. I'd highly recommend getting a seat out in the garden - it is beautiful back there. Tonight the garden was packed so we enjoyed our meal indoors. Started with an elderflower Collins that was refreshing and delicious, and a flavorful Pimm's with cucumber, mint, lime and orange. Dinner tonight was the oyster mushroom bao buns which were super flavorful (though a bit spicy) and the hit at our table for the evening. My friend had the crispy chicken thigh burger which was good but a bit overcooked for her liking. The crispy smashed potatoes were amazing and the fries were perfect with a drizzle of vinegar. Finished the night off with a G'n'T and left truly satisfied. The staff, though very busy, were very attentive and friendly. If I were a local, Connaught would be my regular place to meet up with friends!
