This Yelp listing has a different address than the Polentoteca Chalet Gabriele that we went to last night, but it's got to be the same place, so we're just going with it.
It's a very charming and beautiful setting at the top of the mountain overlooking the lake, and our table was right by the window. Positive: there's a little playground area outside. Negative: they let dogs wander freely--like right up to the table, which is disgusting! When the proprietor noticed one of us was none too pleased about it, she did shoo them away, which was appreciated. And for the record, she was amazing by being completely on top of our table the whole time, patiently explaining everything, and very sweet. Their slightly effervescent house white is perfect.
We were a party of 8, and we ordered A LOT of food. We have to say that almost everything that we had was very good, but it's heavy, and you better love butter and oil. Some highlights: the traditional "tooc" we had served as an appetizer (fried instead of stew-like), which was creamy and delicious. Also, one of us tried horse (!!!!) for the first time--it tasted like pork since it was in sausage form. We LOVED the traditional pizzocherri pasta, which was made with buckwheat noodles, spinach, and potatoes, but the dish was so rich that we killed most of our appetites with it. Our daughter actually ordered one of the best items that we tried--the chinois. It's essentially a hot pot steak situation that they serve with an array of incredible sauces So good, and a sleeper hit. Other highlights: the sautéed spinach, french fries, and "regular" polenta. We enjoyed the beef more than the venison on the mixed meat plate, and didn't love the polenta it was served with as much as the solitary version of it. There were a couple more nice gnocchi dishes and some others that we're forgetting, but everything we ate was very good. Not blow-your-mind-THIS-IS-ITALY good, but lovely home cooked food served with love. And they pride themselves on almost all local ingredients.
We finished with some tiramisu while our kiddo was gifted a massive chocolate gelato that she easily devoured. All in all, we enjoyed the meal and ambience, and would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the Bellagio area and don't mind a frightening drive up a winding mountain road. Four happy stars. read more
