I loved Chally's Bar and Bistro in the golf club. It's obviously quite new or freshly renovated. We dined on a Friday night at about 5:30 and it was fairly quiet at that point, but could see there were several bookings in place.
Looking at the menu they offered up lots of traditional pub meals. The usual schnitzel choices, there were a couple different steaks, a choice or 2 of a seafood dish. I noticed they offered a couple Asian influenced dishes like a satay chicken dish, which looked amazing from the description, and seemed perhaps a tad westernised. There were a few pizza and pasta dishes. They also did a grilled salmon, which was great to see ... Although I didn't order it this time. I also saw a few specials shown near the bar.
I ordered a chicken parmigiana, as I usually can't look past it ... And it was an amazing dish. I come from Adelaide and this was the best parmigiana I've had out of my hometown. It was the right size a schnitzel should be, with a good amount of chips and salad, whereas I like a good serving of all the elements. I also couldn't finish the whole plate, which is another joy for me. The chicken tasted lovely and tender, thickly cut and fresh. The Napoli sauce tasted quite traditionally Italian, with lots of tomato flavours.
If I was an Ararat local I would definitely be dining here a lot. The meals seemed very inexpensive and great value for what you receive. Next time I pass through I'll stop by and try to try something else on the menu. Very well recommended. read more
