Who would have thought living on the 10th floor your balcony would flood. Well it did! So I…read morelooked around at some of the neighbors to see what they installed as way for the water to drain. Now if it was a flat roof, you would want scuppers. If it was an enclosed patio, you would want weep holes. How do I explain what I need to a contractor?? It's really hard to find someone to do a job when it's difficult to explain what you need. Our building manager recommended a Landscaper. But after 6 calls and 2 months of waiting, I assumed they just didn't want to a small job. So I got a recommendation from Chris (contractor at The Montage, downtown Reno) to call Reno Concrete. But he really didn't know anyone personally. So I called my good friend Grant Dalen (Dalen Painting) and asked if he knew anyone at Reno Concrete. Grant knows everyone in Construction and in the Rodeo in Reno. Yes, said Grant, I know Mike (Reno Concrete), I'll give him a call. They didn't do the kind of work I needed, but knew who did. Told me to call Justin Nelson of Morgan Construction, Inc. Concrete Cutting. Who knew there was such a business! Called Justin and received a call back the next day. Made an appointment for the following Monday, he came up looked at the job, gave me a price and said he could do it on Friday. When Leif (laborer) arrived, he was very pleasant, knew exactly what to do and got around to taking care of business. Could not believe how quickly the 4" thick holes were drilled for my "weep holes." It's all in having the right tools for the job. And, of course, knowing how to use them. What they've done here is to drill the holes on a slight angle, then insert a piece (2') of PVC pipe so water drains away from lower level balconies and windows. Leif is downstairs now cutting the pipe. He'll bring them up, clean up the mess on the patio and then silicon the pipe into the holes. Walla! No more floods on the 10th floor ... hopefully, will have to wait for the next major rainfall, but at least now the water has a way out. I'm not sure of the extent of the work they do, but for what I needed they were prompt, friendly, efficient and I think reasonably priced.

My initial meeting with them took about an hour, where we discussed all phases of my desired landscape. I asked about cost and was told that the design fee is $1000, and the landscape should cost about $60,000. I told them that my budget was $75,000, with $10,000 of that being to have a large tree removed, leaving $65,000. The designer came out and charged me $1500??? After a couple months and 2 revisions to the plan, I was presented with a design that I liked. 3 weeks later I got the estimate. There were three significant items on the plan that were not on the estimate, meaning that the estimate would go up substantially. The estimate was for $179,000!!! All that FireSky did for me was to steal $1500 from me for a design that can not be used. I am considering legal action to get my money back.

The waterfall looks nice overall, but a couple of things are disappointing. The black hoses from the pumps are connected with bright white fittings, which really stand out in the pond and don't blend in. Secondly we actually saw them drop a boulder on our concrete patio walkway, leaving a crack from edge to edge. When we brought it up to the salesman's attention, he said the crack was already there - even though both he and the foreman had checked the area before work started and it was fine. He said he'd get back to us, but it's been over a week with no follow-up. They did however, cash our final payment right away. Just wanted to share our experience so that other neighbors know what they could expect. For the price we paid, we were hoping for better attention to details and accountability. SK

They had referred us to Build It Bros and Nick, the owner. He was very friendly, responsive and answered all my questions about the process of rebuilding our wall. He stopped by to check out the repair project scope right away. Nick was also able to schedule time for the repair right after the mitigation process was complete. Robert and Todd, the contractors that did the actual repair, were on-time, courteous, and diligent about installing the wall. Robert was knowledgeable and kept me informed throughout the progress. When he told me he wouldn't be able to finish the job by the end of the first day (based on a time I had set), with a couple hours to go, we worked out a plan on what was my priority. I appreciated his communication. Our water heater needed to be disconnected for the duration of the repair and because I had already scheduled them for the next day, I asked that he just focus on taping up the sheet rock where the water heater needed to go so it had time to dry overnight. Robert returned the next morning, promptly, and finished his work as well as cleaned up all the debris from the job. Nick also dropped by to check in on everything and go through my invoice questions. He was able to reduce my final invoice because of less materials needed and less labor time.
