Oh, how I wish I had read these reviews BEFORE signing up for Level 2 Spanish at CEPE-Polanco. The teacher I had here was AWFUL. You could tell that she did not enjoy teaching and helping students progress...was just collecting a paycheck. Equally bad: They crammed 14 people in our class so there was no time for us to truly practice conversation with the "teacher". SAVE YOUR MONEY: You will get better results from an online class than you ever will from CEPE-Polanco. You're welcome! read more

The review that I read by Jen K is so misleading that I just felt compelled to write a review :) I am sure it's a genuine review, But I think this was a bad experience because of one bad teacher. I came to Mexico to learn Spanish. While I was in the US, I researched schools in Mexico city and I found that private schools were heavily advertised. I came here and visited two of them. Frida Language school and International House. Both seemed good but were expensive. Frida was $ 180 a week (approx) and International House was $ 220 a week (approx). International House seemed more professional. But the issue with these schools was that they had 4 hours of classes a day, which for me seemed like a lot. And like I mentioned before $ 220 is a lot for a week, considering that it would take anyone 6 months to learn a new language. CEPE Polonco is amazing. They have different intensity levels, so you can choose to take classes twice a week, 3 time or 4 times. I've taken the 3 times a week for 2.5 hours per class to a total of 7.5 hours a week. That gives me enough time to memorize stuff and think about what was taught. The course is divided into Basico 1,2,3,4. I am in Basico 1 and it will run for 10 weeks totaling 75 hours of classroom time. The cost is Approx $ 360 for Bascio 1. The teacher is amazing and the course curriculum is fantastic. We have escucha (listening), Games to make memorizing stuff easier, there are constant revisions of what was taught and overall it's a fun class. The best part is that we are being taught Spanish in Spanish...with minimal use of English. I found this odd at first, but Now that I've gone through the system, I appreciate it a lot more. I took 2 Spanish courses here. The first one was mediocre. The second was awful. The book had a lot of grammatical and spelling errors and their exams I felt didn't really test my knowledge over what we'd learned in the course. The teacher from my first course was decent. He was knowledgable and affable enough and I felt like I could rely on the validity of his answer when I asked him a question. With my second teacher, this was not the case. She didn't speak clearly or really seem to have much idea what she was doing. The second course left such a bad taste in my mouth that I evaluate this place at one star, even though I would give the first course 3 stars by itself. read more

I am so disappointed with this school. I was recommended here by a Mexican who heard this was the best place to learn Spanish. The school is nice and the staff that registered me was nice and helpful with my Spanish, and placed me in Basico 1. Then I the first day of class, I met my teacher. Where do I begin with this one? She has never, ever been on time for a class. On multiple occasions, she was over 30 minutes late, but during one of the classes, revealed that she lived only a few kilometers away from the school, so what could possibly be her excuse for how late she was? Also, on multiple occasions, if someone in the class asked too hard of a question, she would just tell us that "van a aprender eso en Basico 2" which translates to ' you will learn that in your next class'. I guess I'll just wait a couple months to ask that question? WTF?! I added a photo of a normal class when she wrote on the board, which shows that she misspelled a couple of words... I was somehow appointed one of the "best students in the class" which then made me here b*tch. I had to start out every lesson and had to teach individual students if they didn't understand or help with future lessons. It was awful, since I still wasn't understanding much. And just to show that it was not only me that thought she was awful: 3 students quit her class because they weren't understanding and most other students only show up 1-2 times a week. And as I am aware, only 3 students are moving onto the next course. Seriously, don't waste your money. I have learned more on the streets than I did in that class in the last 3 months. read more
