This was my third time at Centro, and at this point I feel pretty confident saying it's just... okay. I know this place gets a lot of glowing reviews, which is why I kept coming back to give it another shot, but I still don't really get the hype. It's not bad, but it's definitely not great either -- it kind of just exists in that middle ground where nothing stands out. The atmosphere is fun and lively, which is probably its biggest strength. It's a great place to meet up with friends. Service is decent, but the QR code ordering takes away from any real connection with staff, so the whole experience ends up feeling a bit impersonal. I've only had non-alcoholic drinks here, so I can't speak to the margaritas or cocktails that people rave about -- but the NA options I've tried have been fine, nothing particularly memorable. The food is where it really misses for me. Everything I've had has been pretty bland and forgettable. The green salsa was underwhelming, and the burritos I've tried have been barely seasoned -- not spicy, not bold, just kind of flat. I understand Minnesota tends to lean mild, but this felt less like "approachable" and more like the flavors just aren't there. This time I ordered the Lunch Crunch with birria, and it was honestly completely forgettable. Nothing tasted especially fresh or flavorful, and there wasn't a single bite that made me think, "I'd come back for this." Had a group here during happy hour on a busy Friday. Bartenders and servers did such a great job getting food and drinks out quickly. We shared a variety of appetizers, but I have to say my favorite of the night was the cauliflower. The green sauce that came with it was chef's kiss delicious. Yucca fries were a close second. It's a fairly large place. I had never heard anything about it before we just happened to be in the neighborhood and were looking for brunch. You seat yourself wherever you'd like and there are QR codes on the table to order everything. There is no wait staff, which isn't a big deal. Food was good, but we just went for brunch on a Saturday and they don't have a large selection. I had the breakfast tacos. They are corn tortillas that are slightly crispy. They are fairly large so two was plenty for me! It comes with salsa on the side. I ordered a side of guacamole as well which I think added a bit more to the tacos because without it, it felt a little bland. The pickled red onions are a nice addition tho! My partner had the chorizo and egg crunch and enjoyed it. It was a good sized portion for him so he was happy with that. The only downside for him was that there wasn't any coffee, Or if there was we did not find it on the menu. I've been meaning to try this place for awhile since I've heard good things. My overall impression is that the vibe of the place was trendy but the food is so-so and there's barely any service. It made me wonder why I didn't just do takeout. It's completely self-service which I didn't realize ahead of time and would not of brought my parents here on Father's Day if I had researched this ahead of time. From ordering, to getting a high chair, to getting our own water, to figuring out where the takeout containers are- it's all on you. I even asked where I could find smaller containers for salsa and the employee kind of yelled across the room to look behind somewhere as opposed to coming over to help me and no one came around to check if we needed anything during our meal. They do walk out and deliver the food but one person's meal came out much later. Came here for dinner tonight and it was so easy to place my order and pay, as everything is done on your phone. I got my drink and food quickly after I ordered it and did not have much waiting time. For dinner I got a NA Paloma and a Centro Crunch sans tomato and crema. I was a little nervous ordering because they have gotten my order wrong in the past but today they did fine and my wrap was even more filled than it usually was! My drink was also amazing and just the right mix of sweet and sour. Overall the ambiance was good. There were many cute kids dining and enough tables were open to where no one had to wait, but I found at times the music could be just a touch too loud. I don't like this place. I mean that in the nicest way possible. The staff, the rare times you interact with them, are pleasant enough. The food is decent. The space is nice. But the mechanism by which you order your food and everything associated with it is awful. I've eaten here a handful of times as my partner likes their spicy margarita and my eldest likes the crunch wrap. You come in and pick a table. In my most recent visit this means finding the one or two tables that are either not occupied or that are empty but have not been cleared - about 5% of the tables are clean and available. You've secured a table, success! Next, order in the most impersonal way possible via a mid QR code interface. Have a question about an item? Too bad, no one is around to help. Place your order and then in seemingly random order, your food appears. Did you order chips and salsa? They may come out before your meal, or with it, or after. Since you have not talked to a human being yet, no one knows the order of your order. Food arrives, but wait there is a problem and you almost have to physically restrain the human whisking your food to your table to say you have the wrong thing. And then you wait. And your whole family eats their meal, and you eat half of yours waiting for the other half to come, and when it does it is cold. And no one ever comes by to see how you are doing, how everything is, if you need anything, if you have any questions. I do not like that. My husband and I visited on a Sunday afternoon specifically to try their version of a crunch wrap supreme - The Centro Crunch. This restaurant is so aesthetic! We were seated right away and there was no wait, which was great. Drink and food ordering is via QR code, which was a little difficult trying to time out our appetizer with our main entrees, but it ended up working out just fine. We started with a mimosa and N/A margarita and the N/A margarita tasted JUST like a regular one - I was shocked! It was slightly sweet but tart - YUM. After perusing the menu, we ordered the centro crunch, the chorizo & egg crunch, and the tater tots with ranch. After taste testing both of the crunch wraps, we surprisingly liked the chorizo and egg crunch better than the seasoned beef crunch! First impression....not a fan of the online ordering. Wish there were actual servers taking an order. The food was good. Tacos are very good, the Braised Beef and Barbacoa are both delicious. The highlight of our meal was the Brussels Sprouts. Get them! The drinks are very good. The Margarita is dam good and they make a great Gin and Tonic. This is the first time I have visited the Saint Paul establishment and I don't think my experience is any different from my times at the Northeast location, which means very good for my case! Food comes out a bit slower here at this location, but that is only because it comes out way too fast at the Northeast one, so if anything, I waited a reasonable amount of time here. Everything was a hit. From the Brussels sprouts which had creaminess and sweetness in one bowl of roasted veggies to the rice & bean burger which was elevated by the sauce included inside it, the food was just delicious. We ordered the black bean enchiladas and yuca fries as well, and they were both as good as I would expect them to be. The green sauce for the enchiladas were spicy and very flavorful. One bite of the enchiladas must consist of the sauce. As for the tacos, they are savory, juicy, and very flavorful. If anything, I thought there was an overabundance of meat and not enough white onion or cilantro, but I bet very few people will be critical about that. Anyway, nothing short of amazing. I wouldn't expect them to taste differently from the tacos at the Northeast location, and it was the case. I got the Hot Takis Crunch with black beans and rice and my bf got the regular Centro Crunch with the beef. We also got the Brussel Sprouts, Horchatas and Tres Leches Cake. The Horchatas were pretty good but honestly you don't get much drink for $6 so I'll probably get something else next time. The Brussel Sprouts were actually so good, and the crunch wraps were filled to the brim that I couldn't finish the whole thing in one sitting. It's slightly pricey in some parts of ordering, including the automatic 10% added to the bill but it's not too big of a deal. Went to Centro with great expectations. WOW were we disappointed. Worst fish and chicken tacos ever. Fish tacos were very fishy and the Tinga chicken tasted like V8 mixed with very bad homemade hot sauce. Taco Bell & Taco John's are way better. I told them about the bad taste and there was no appropriate response. Management obviously isn't tasting their own food. I worry for the health of others fish shouldn't taste like a dirty goldfish tank your kids keep. Chicken tacos shouldn't taste like dried out chicken soaked in tomato dishwater either. I do not see what the hype is about at all. The shrimp tacos were just ok save time go to La Tapatia in Roseville for delicious shrimp Taco's or Boca Chica in South St. Paul for chicken tacos. The chicken burrito was bland but edible try Taco Bell's Cantina Chicken burrito for more flavor. The squash taco was ok but nothing to get excited about. Save your time and money go elsewhere there is so much better south of the border food out there to enjoy. Did not care for the order from phone experience that got easily screwed up too. The order arrived incomplete and they complained about fixing it and bitched about fixing to all in the kitchen....very unprofessional staff and lack of good leadership making inexperienced decisions and a lack of communication. Please don't perpetuated this establishment. The communication is terrible too you don't get a dedicated server. You get what ever person happens to walk by and they don't communicate well with each other unless it's about gossiping about the customer. They have time to bitch but not to help. They said they were going to replace some bad food but that never happened and the manager never apologized or gave a rats ass about fixing it. We finally out of boredom just left after the lack of attention to fixing the bad food. Place was super cute walking in! Centro is self service so you just order food online and then they bring it to your table. The food came super fast in less then 10 minutes. Salsa was ok, not my favorite but I loved the queso. Queso was pretty pricy though. The tacos were pretty good, but not jaw dropping. I guess I don't understand the concept. When you walk into the empty restaurant, one lone bartender playing on his phone asks if you've been here before. If the answer is no, then he quickly tells you to have a seat and order from the QR code. While I was ordering, this happened two more times with newly arriving guests. I ordered three tacos and a Coca Cola, and I noticed there was no indication of a place to add salsa. When they arrived, I mentioned it to the server. She told me I'd have to go back to the QR code menu and order salsa for $3.00, or I could use the crusty old bottled hot sauce on the table. Meanwhile, older adults were struggling with placing an order on their phone and finally approached the bartender, who was playing on his phone once more, and reluctantly took their order. They were not very busy during the weekday lunch rush, and I can only assume, like me, most guests will not return after this one frustrating experience. The ground beef tacos are nothing special and similar to what you would get at Taco Bell. They were not bad, but at least three times as expensive. All three that I ordered I thought were a waste of money. Just go to Taco Bell and at least get food that tastes like something for a fourth of the price. Centro creates a beautiful first impression with their vibrant decor and welcoming set up. There is plenty of seating area and a bar in the middle, with welcoming staff that are happy to get you seated. The Nicollet burger was pretty decent and was served to me pretty quickly! However It was not to busy when I got there. The buns were super soft, and the overall flavor was there. It wasn't as expensive as I expected it to be too, I would definitely try this again! I originally picked centro because I was craving Yuca fries and saw that they have it on their menu, as well as reviews raving about them. However, they were pretty disappointing. They were a bit too chewy and had no flavor at all. They did add spice, however it doesn't really do much if there isn't any salt. The sauce was alright but I prefer the Yuca fries at Iconos. To top it off I had the refreshing hibiscus lemonade. This is probably the best I've had! It was not too sweet and I could taste both the hibiscus and the lemonade, both super refreshing. I loved it and can't wait to have it again! I would definitely come back to Centro and am excited to try more of their menu! Last week I visited the newest location of Centro! They opened Friday the 28th. The vibes in this place are fantastic! The décor, the everything! Parking is street parking Chips & Salsa Trio - a must have for me every Centro visit. Tortilla chips w/ tree house made salsas - alsa roja, salsa verde and salsa cruda. The Salsa Verde is my personal fav. We also added a side of guac. Osyters -East Coast & West Coast Oysters. Served w/ cocktail salsa, mignonette, lime. The Spicy Kick Burger - We had to try a burger and this one sounded really good. It's a single smashed beef patty, habanero relish, Havarti cheese, & spicy mayo between 2 charred brioche buns. If you like spice this one is for you. It defiantly had the heat! Mexican Pizza - Refried beans, seasoned taco meat, lettuce, lime crema, tomatoes, cheese, & pickled jalapeños in between Corn tostadas. This was delish & not a regular thing I get everything, but it defiantly might be now! Tacos: Pescado - MY personal fav and a must have for me. It's beer-battered fish, cabbage, guajillo aioli, & pickled red onion. Guajillo Chicken - This was my first time trying this one. Made w/ Seared Chicken Thigh, salsa roja, white onion, & cilantro. Terrible the 2nd time! We had visitors from Texas and I suggested Centro in Highland after a less than great 1st experience and regret that I did, they returned to my home and said "After spending $50 for lunch tacos, the food was aweful!" I asked if they made a complaint to management about the food, they responded, "To Who" there is no one to tell everything is a QR Code. I have a love hate relationship with the ordering style here, on the one hand I love not working at the speed a server needs me to and making sure to get drinks ordered buy HH cut off but I do miss a survey filling my water glass.
