How are we to "improve the health and nutrition of our low income seniors"? Once again, there seems to be a disconnect between your federally funded "SUNShine boxes" program ("Serving Under Nourished Seniors") allocation: -Cereal -Juice -Vegetables, canned -Fruits, canned -Milk, evaporated -Pasta -Peanut Butter -Protein (Beef, Chicken, or Tuna) -Cheese and our non-profits quarterly food distribution. A reconnect on Second Harvests' part by distributing more nutritious foods remains critical to sustain our communitys' health! Without the above, the financial burden to close the nutritious resources gap continues to fall on our non-profits' shoulders. Being True to your Mission Statements will then earn you more stars. Do you want to do something that will make you feel good? Why not get together with some friends or…read morebusiness partners and go volunteer in your community? Today, one of the professional organizations I belong to sponsored a Community Service Day at CUMAC in Paterson, NJ. Their website describes CUMAC as a "non-profit organization dedicated to feeding people and changing lives. Our team works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County and northern New Jersey." Our team worked on breaking down the fruits and vegetables donated by local supermarkets into individual family-sized bags. What a wonderful feeling it is to help people and make a difference in someone's life. I know we did today. CUMAC also has a thrift store on site, but lots of the clothing are given away to families under stress. Business suits are also available for client's job interviews. It is a very humbling experience to spend a few hours in service to others. Now it's your turn......

In the two hour time span I was at the event you're really working all the way through so I can only imagine what the people that work here on a daily basis go through to make sure that every client has what they need. Simply put, this was a great event. I give this place 5 stars all around for what they stand for and represent. Helping the community is #majorKEY. So, if you're ever in the area stop by, donate, and perhaps check out their thrift shop that they have. Since this is a non- profit organization sometimes supplies and money can be tight. So a lot of the thrift shop money is used to buy other goods, etc. So definitely get out and help if you're able.

Ruben works the outside & gets the names while the rest of us work the inside of the truck handing out breakfasts to the families. The families get to choose cold cereal or oatmeal if it's available. We make up bags of assorted breakfast items. Granola bars, juice, milk, fruit cups., etc. Everything you need including spoons. I really enjoy being able to help out others who are not as fortunate to have a good meal whenever they want. I love the fact that LI Cares affords you the ability to personally hand out the food directly to the people who need it. No wondering where your money goes, hoping it's actually reaching the people. It is. The appreciation shows on their face when you hand them that bag. Everyone is kind & gracious. So for me it's a win win situation. Everyone including the volunteers leaves with a smile on their face. From what I've experienced Long Island Cares is a great organization that directly helps & effects the community. Check them out in your spare time. Giving back is so fulfilling! Especially if you have a great crew like Denis, Ruben, Kate, Melissa, & Paul aka Linda to work with. They make giving back even more fun. 7-2-2016

But let me tell you... it is so fulfilling to see the community you're helping out. Everyone was pleasant and grateful for our smiling faces on the truck giving them their breakfast. Like I will continue to say next time you guys need me just let me know and I'll hopefully be able to help out. My, My, My....how things have changed at Family Church and for the better!…read more Important: If you read nothing else beyond this first line, just know that reviews for churches are SOOOOO subjective because everyone's needs are different. I do my very best to be objective and I encourage you to always visit any church you have your heart set on and see for YOURSELF if it's fits what you need at that particularly point in your life. Updated Review: I remember visiting this church over 10 years ago and I believe the senior pastor's father was the senior pastor at the time. My experience then was not so good as I vaguely recall the pastor preaching and what stuck with me the most was something he said about owning a sports car or some vehicle that he felt he deserved and he got it. I don't want to mince words espciecally based on my aging memory for something that left me butt hurt over a decade ago. All I know is that first visit left a negative lasting impression until I visited again about 4 years ago. My more recent visit 4 years ago and this very year (2021) it was senior pastor Mike, presumably the son of the previous pastor, who was teaching. I have to say my experience years ago and this very year were extremely positive!! Pastor Mike truly brings a message of healing and hope. I'm a seasoned christian (if that even exists) and have heard messages for the past 20+ years and Mike brings fresh invitational messages of hope. The old school ways were very strict in condemnation, judgement and basically the Bible verbatim in literal form. The pastor doesn't waver from biblical truths, he just delivers the message in a way that God knows the people of this world need it now (today) because what was needed years ago might not resonate with the people of today. Isn't God mighty and ALL knowing? Well wether we like it or not the Bible does not change but the delivery of the message could be tweaked to encourage others to seek the truth from within the pages of that very book we all wholeheartedly believe in. I remember even being a christian for over a decade I'd hear a pastor preaching a message that truly felt condemning in a way that made even me feel like, "Wow! I'm doomed and there's no way out, no repentance!" but that's not how people should feel and the pastor at Family Church teaches right and wrong but in a good way. Doesn't the bible have a verse somewhere that says to say things in love? In summary: Check the place our for yourself cause you owe it to yourself to seek out the place that right for YOU; not me or another person reviewing the (or any) church. I say this in all my church reviews because these types of reviews are subjective.
