I went to Medicare office in Leichhardt to get medicare contribution to the doctor's fee, which was sent to my by his receptionist, as a cheque. The receptionist has made a mistake of issuing the cheque in the doctor's name, instead of mine. So I showed the Medicare's consultant the copy of the receipt emailed to me, for the full payment to the doctor and the incorrectly issued cheque, and asked for refund. Yet she refused and demanded that I give her a printed version of the receipt issued by the doctor. So I asked if I can email it to her and she could print it, please. Or if I can use the computers available in the office and print it this way, which didn't work for some mysterious reason.
So the consultant decided to refuse sorting it out for me.
I am a 81 years old woman with no car. Trip to Medicare offices for me means half a day of wested time by public transport. Firstly the doctor's receptionist made a mistake by incorrectly incorporating medicare refund in my full payment of the doctor's fee. Secondly the Medicare consultant could yet declined to assist me and sort this out for, what I consider bureaucratic or trivial reasons.
This is why dealing with Australian bureaucracy makes people lives a misery. Lift up your game Medicare! Train your staff to be helpful and focus on solutions rather than problems, PLEASE. read more
