The space was beautiful, and the visuals surrounded the entire room, even stretching across the ceiling, so I couldn't stop looking around. The sound was soothing and paired perfectly with the visuals, creating something that felt both grand and calming. I was so in the moment, I didn't take pics of it. A lot of interesting biblical pieces, glass stained pieces, and a few circus gypsy references. Plenty of comfy benches to sit and resonate. Drawings were displayed as well. A small souvenir bookshop was located next to the museum where I bought a few art postcards and a Chagall museum book. Talented artist and so worth the visit! Must see for sure

Not a fan. Me, on the other hand, I find joy, inspiration and melancholy in Chagall's work. His stained glass inspires. His canvases touch on culture, religion and history, and also weave in colorful influences of a later life spent in the South of France. Tucked in an affluent hillside in Nice, the museum can be booked ahead or tickets purchased in person. They have many large-scale oil paintings, along with stained glass, mosaics, watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Recommended. The museum has an outdoor cafe, for those who want a quick pick me up after the museum, and to linger.

Wow! I had a great experience here on my last day in Nice. It was incredibly hot outside, and…read moresomehow I was in the throes of a bad cold (on a summer trip to the Mediterranean?! Now that's bad luck.). I was looking to kill a few hours before my plane took off, so I decided to check out the MAMAC. As a silly American tourist, I was worried it would be expensive. Ha! I mentioned at the front desk that I was a student, and asked if there was a reduced fee. The woman at the front desk said that all of Nice's museums were 100% free for students, and gave me a printout with tickets to all of them! If only I had had more time! Anyway, MAMAC was great. They were doing an interesting exhibition on artists who were influenced by Nice native Henri Matisse. It might sound like a rather contrived idea for an exhibition, but I think they pulled it off. The permanent exhibits were great, too, with significant pieces from abstract expressionist and pop art styles. Next time I'm in Nice (which hopefully will be soon) I'd love to check it out again, as well as the other museums.

Best room is with the artist who's fascinated with the vibrant blue and women using their bodies to paint on canvases. Everything is translated into multiple languages. Overall it deals with modern Italian art from the 1960-70s. Lots of films in Italian.

The museum even had interesting items like handwritten payroll stubs for Matisse's assistant who may have also been his paramour.
