There was expectations, judgement or uncomfortable moments. When I first came here I was on edge, I was ready to not like something. To last no longer then a couple months as per normal. It's been over 2 years now. Our kids wouldn't let us miss a Sunday even if we wanted too. This church is open, accepting, non judgemental, wear what you want, be who you want. It's a bit odd to review a church, something that I have never done so since the big guy will probably read this review I will be extra nice hahaha In all honesty,St.Marys has everything going for it (as it should because of who its named after)! I love the organ which sounds just huge in the space, and it's even better when they got the full choir to go along with it. They offer full mass services on the weekends and the place can get pretty packed at certain times! The Christmas and Easter services here are well done and leave a strong impression. Now don't expect a european cathedral when you come here, heck Rome has at least 100 churches even bigger and more Magnificant than this! Needless to say its probably calgarys finest, I wish more churches felt like church and didn't try to be something modern or move with the times and for me this fits the bill just fine! They have kind, caring staff who work compassionately respond to poverty in Calgary. They work alongside clients to set goals and offer relief to those living on the streets. The SEED is an oganization i believe in, and I highly recommend getting involved with their important work!

Mustard seed women shelter is a very great place to stay…read more They serve nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most of the staff are friendly, very helpful and sympathetic. I am always looking forward to staff Toyosi's shift, she has excellent conflicts management skills she always made sure everyone is ok . Before I came to mustard seed women shelter, I was hopeless, depressed and fearful of the future. When I started attending the evening fellowship at mustard seed, and listening to encouraging words of faith, prayers and testimonies from the staff , my faith became stronger, faith and laughter became my friend. I have left the shelter to my own place, I was able to access financial and housing resources through the mustard seed women shelter. I am now a better person. Thank you so much!

Can I be a member of your tribe??…read more I have a friend who gave me a tour of this reserve, and I gotta say, I'm totally impressed and envious of how this First Nation has it goin' on! The tribe is located in a very beautiful piece of country, but is also conveniently located to Calgary. The tribe appears to be very fiscally sound and has many good things going for its members. The Tsuu T'ina Nation building is HUGE and very cool and Native looking. And if you ever get the chance, you should check out their pow wow in July. It's the bomb!

When they weren't filling the airwaves, his inappropriately dressed performer wife (clubbing outfit with OTK boots and thigh-high dress) was doing the same with another guy. Very distracting. Bizarre lack of propriety or reverence. Another woman counts the heads in attendance but never cracks a smile or shares a friendly word. Sure doesn't feel like a nice warm, welcoming community to I'd like to join.

Westside Kings is an incredible Spirit filled church. I felt the warm welcome walking in through…read morethe door the first time and it continues throughout the services. There's a contemporary worship section in the beginning that end with a coffee break. A coffee break with lattes! How awesome is that? Then it continues with the sermon from the witty pastors, who makes Bible relevant for today while explaining what happened back in the day. They tie everything to the church and the community and you can really feel that they care.

I've been to Knox United a few times for entirely non church related concerts and the Pecha Kucha…read morespeaker series. I can't and won't speak towards the religious side of this building, but as a seated event venue it's so very cool! It's one of the few impressive sandstone architecture churches in this relatively new city. Large arched ceilings and large arched stained glass windows give any event a classy and powerful cathedral feel. Acoustic music reverberates cleanly through this very live sounding venue and adds it's own unique characteristics to the listening experience. It seats around 600 people in orchestra style pew seating with a second story balcony at the back and second level side seating close to the stage. There's a large and spacious space basement level which makes for a great mingling space during intermissions.

DISCLAIMER: While my Skeptic little self has never experience Knox United Church (or any other…read morechurch, truth be told) as a religious organization, I really appreciate its role in Calgary's music community. It would seem that all of the best shows occur at Knox. It is where I have had the chance to see some of my favourite (has anyone else noticed that Yelp totally spellchecks the Canadian spelling of FAVOURITE? Probably just jealous that we spell it proper) artists perform, such as Owen Pallet, Timber Timbre, Daniel Johnston, Dan Mangan, and the list goes on. I've seen Owen Pallet a few times here, and the acoustics of the church always contain his violin music more beautifully than I have ever witnessed seeing his act at outdoor festivals or larger venues. Daniel Johnston was also completely haunting, which I believe the space contributed to a lot. The church itself aesthetically is absolutely gorgeous, and rich in history, from what I understand. The sound is something I just can't get over. Incredible. There is something about this venue that makes me all warm inside. I actually sometimes attend shows based on whether or not it is at Knox.

I came here to accompany for a couple of Royal Conservatory of Music singing exams. The church…read morestaff are very pleasant and welcoming. However, the parking lot can be a bit confusing, especially if you're coming as a visitor (i.e. there are a lot of spaces designated "church members only","staff only" or "monthly permit holders only"). The church entrance (wheelchair ramp on the side of the stairs) leads to a cozy sitting room/foyer with comfy couches. The sanctuary is like an oven in the summertime (no air conditioning available), so you'd have to rely on an electric fan or cooling unit.
