I've been a student here since gr 7, and I'm in grade 9 now, but I just wanna say this school is…read morekinda buttcheeks. I'm not gonna say names but SOME teachers are pdfs, and a couple of the young female teachers pick favourites. Like they'll be laughing their head off at the hockey/soccer boys but as soon as you utter a word to your friend they look at you like you committed a crime. Honestly a lot of people will look at you weird for no reason. Like SOME of the popular girls will laugh behind your back and side eye each other if you dare talk to them, and SOME of the academy boys are sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. "Class clowns" will "ragebait" the poor teachers for 30 minutes cause it's "funny," but it's plain bullying. The year I came was when they banned junior high students from going into the cafeteria for SOME REASON, and every year it seems like they add new useless rules. For example, we're expected to carry 100 pound books with no locker breaks, and if we do we get yelled at by the lady. Idk her name but she pmo. They have a bunch of stupid rules but there's still vandalism on the walls and a swastika everytime you go to the bathroom. On the other hand, some teachers are actually fair and take time to get to know students personally. I've heard really thought provoking speeches from some teachers BUT THEY LEFT!!!!! (MR MCCABE AND MR FORD).

The school has some exceptional teachers, however, the fawning over all of the athletes is well over the top. From my point of view, the school's athletes were hero worshipped by their fellow students, teachers and admin. As a parent, I would much rather have a school that focuses SOME after school time on tutoring and supporting students who need the extra time versus every teacher coaching one team or another.

this school has some truly amazing staff and opportunities. my issues come with the administration…read moreitself. i attended strathcona for 3 years despite nearly being expelled because another student molested me. they were only concerned about protecting their image rather than the actual situation, so far as to go on blocking me on social media. thank god EPS were involved and arrested the student. because of the coverups of my experience, kids and teachers both had bias against me- something that could have been prevented by the staff in the first place. i have spoken to many other students who are terrified to speak up - especially after watching what happened to me.

Although Scona is often made fun of for it's "bathroom" appearance - the walls are green tile and it does have a bathroom feel to it because of that, it's a great school. I loved that Scona had different floors (students get a bit of exercise in between sitting at desks all day). I also love the surrounding grounds. Students are always outside enjoying the sun (when we have sun). It's a really nice area. There are also not as many students at Scona as there at Ainlay. That was a huge thing for me because I don't like being a number. I like knowing my teachers and trusting them. I like a more personal experience. In fact, I went to a memorial a few years ago that was for one of my former teachers from Scona. She passed away from cancer and there were a lot of former students there to honor her. It was nice to see. I also love how Scona emphasizes the student in student-athlete. I always had to keep my grades up to be on the basketball team. And I found that the sports teams (at least the ones I was on) focused more on personal development, hard work and discipline than winning. It was refreshing and it was wonderful! I really enjoyed my years at Scona. It's a great school.

this school is UTTERLY not the best. No joke the kids at school are SOOO mean coming from a student…read morewho goes here. The principals dont do anything really like their punishments are really bad, There was a kid who quite LITERALLY got hatecrimed and that could get you expelled in some places, and yeah the kid got a suspension and had to deal with paying for new recourses for the kid who had that happened to, but a TEACHER had to set that up not the principal. Another example, in 2025 there was this kid who would GROPE other kids specifically girls butts and sometimes BOOBS and he got let off with a warning. Se kids even bring weapons to school. The only reason why my review isnt FULLY a one star review is cause the teachers are nice. Ms May, she's a junior high teacher is the sweetest person ever, Ms Jay is pretty cool too, same with Ms Wallace, Ms Irvine, Mr Arsenault, Mr Lazarick, Mr Mclofflin basically everyone up in junior high is super friendly. but I wouldn't recommend going here PERSONALLY, but come at your own risk. Coming from a student.

I'm not in it but I did some math assignment required for the Cogito students to do. Now they use computers just like the regular program. What they teach is also very different. Honestly it depends on who teaches you if a teacher liked the old fashioned way they would probably teach you that way. The students are kind some hold the doors for people and now most have manners, moving when asked, saying thank you and you're welcome. We have many clubs and they help the students learn more. Joining a club could also improve your mental health. It can help you socialize which can help you make new friends. I mean people can be mean and disrespectful but if you ignore them they'll realize that it means nothing to you and they'll stop. Oh and one more thing I kinda do hate the small cramped hallways (I mean they can't really fix that though). P.S I forgot to add my name and where I live so Charlotte Chute Edmonton, AB

The Cogito program is excellent... When I was in grade six I was getting high B's and in grade 7 my test scores flew higher than ever, now I am in grade 8 and I am continuing to strive. The school has high academic standards and its ranking is reflective of that. As for extra curricular programs Edith Rogers has many choices available : Chess club, book club, homework club, student council, after school club and many more The school is also a 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens school which means that students are taught to be active citizens and are taught how to deal with difficult situations, it's a fantastic enriching program especially for kids around the age of 12-15 as they start to face peer pressure and many new changes. Edith Rogers is located in Mill Woods which is a culturally diverse area so the school has an ELL (English Language Learners) class which helps newcomers from all over the globe to expand their knowledge and repertoire. I know some of the students in the ELL class and they say that the class is extremely helpful and without it they wouldn't have the ability to excel and move to higher level classes. Edith Rogers has awesome sports teams and our coaches always help the players and TEACH them what sportsmanship is. All factors considered it is the best school in the Mill Woods area and if not it's the best school in Edmonton.

We're allowed to review our own high schools right? I mean, you can't really give a school a rating…read moreunless you've been there. And I promise to keep as objective as possible. Overall, I don't think I regret spending my "good years" at Shep, even if a lot of my friends went to other high schools on the north side of town. While it wasn't the same without peers I really knew, Shep still had its good qualities. They have an amazing department of staff who really know their stuff. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is available here, full and partial, along with one of the best drama and music school programs in the city. Of course, it wasn't just all about the arts; Shep has a kick-ass football and basketball team too. As a result, it's a very competitive school. I think it's always in silent rivalry with Archbishop and Old Strathcona. The school has two floors, with a library and study space on each level. Cafeteria space is limited but serves decent lunch surprises, if my memory hasn't faded completely. The school gym is also equipped with a full-fledged fitness centre for students, to ensure physical health in addition to mental and intelluctual stimulation. Shep also has a great location, right in between the Woodcroft and Westmount areas. The Westmount shopping centre (notice I didn't say mall) is across the street, and the bus terminal is right outside the school parking lot. The Woodcroft library is just across the football field, and the school is also conveniently located beside the Peter Hemingway pool and fitness centre, and Coronation Park. After all, it's all about location, location, location. So I'm proud to say that Shep was my high school. The IB program really helped me prepare for university, as it got me into my study habits early. I still remember some of my teachers here, from time to time. They're the teachers who really stand out in my memory, and who I believe helped make a difference in my life. Thanks for the memories, Ross Shep!

Hi! I personally think MAC is hit or miss. I am going to this school right now and I have had some…read moregood and bad experiences at this school. I think it really depends on the teacher on whether you get a good education and learning experience in that class. I have a social teacher this year who is amazing and goes super in depth in topics, it has made me appreciate social studies so much. But my other teachers have been hit or miss. One teacher was extremely ego centered and I don't think we could go five minutes without them bragging about how good they were in that subject. It made it extremely difficult to learn and want to learn that subject. One thing I really appreciate about MAC is the passion teachers have. I used to go to St. Mark Junior High and it was the most awful experience, so going here made everything feel so much better and I felt like I belonged with my peers and teachers being more passionate about school. I do have some concerns about the English department, but I don't think it's affected me as much as my peers since I've always been stronger in English. I would also say that MAC is not nearly as hard as they say it is. I know there is a huge pressure coming to this school and you have to apply, but a lot of kids aren't getting 90s all the time. Half the time most people aren't even fully getting 80s. So don't feel too much pressure. Overall I would recommend this school! Some of the teachers aren't as nice, and if you are coming by yourself it can be challenging to make friends. But if you are open to putting yourself out there and not being solely focused on academics then I think you'll do good at MAC. One thing you need to know: there will be so much unnecessary pressure from your peers. Just focus on yourself and achieve to the best of your abilities! Don't try and work yourself to the bone. 9/10 that only makes the stress, no sleep, and anxiety about tests and schoolwork worse. Most importantly: just because your at MAC doesn't mean you need top marks! Just try your best! ONE THING I WOULD CHANGE PLEASE: As someone who is Scottish, I find it extremely offensive to have a PERSON as a mascot. Why not an animal like normal schools? This just seems off and everyone I know at the school has said something about how creepy and offensive it is.
