I'm concerned about the posts from people forming an opinion based upon very limited information, or misinformation--particularly concerning the homeless situation in Merced. In that regard I believe many of the comments about CPC are unfair, as there are few who have done more to support the Rescue Mission and its ministry to the less fortunate than the members of Central Presbyterian Church (CPC). I know from first hand experience that members of CPC, in addition to providing the Rescue Mission with a facility and financial support for years, have:
1. Hosted the "brothers" at no cost to join the annual church family three-day retreat.
2. Donated the generator and heating equipment for the homeless warming tent.
3. Helped deliver and serve food, for decades, at the Salvation Army free meal program.
4. Slept with the homeless as chaperones in the winter warming tent.
5. Gifted vans to the Mission so they could transport workers and food to feeding sites.
6. Offered to help finance a new facility which will comply with health and safety codes.
Yes, there is much more to be done to help those in need, and CPC is partnering with the Rescue Mission to help this ministry be more effective, but in my opinion, the less fortunate will be better served by more charity and less criticism of those like CPC who are trying to help. read more
