I've had my account for less than a month and then they closed my account and they didn't give me a reason why My account was in the negative for a little bit, but I put money back in there to bring it back up to positive And then they close my account the next day. When I told them that I was not going to use them as my main bank source Because I have a couple other checking accounts - the lady on the phone seemed peeved that I told her I had other checking accounts. I would not recommend this BANK to Satan himself. They don't offer credit cards and they don't offer loans So I'm not sure what kind of bank this is? But I would advise you to go to a different bank maybe CHASE or Bank of America and I know they have their issues Or maybe even a CREDIT UNION Stay away from this bank !!! Even if you go online like chime bank or capital, one bank or Discover bank they treat you a lot better than this BANK does They treat you like you're a criminal. If you go to the branch locate in Zionsville, they're located right next to a CHASE BANK on the corner Every time I go to this bank and it's only been a few times There's hardly NOBODY in their parking lot. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND Centier bank! Opened 2 business checking accounts at the Mishawaka, IN branch for my new business almost 3 weeks ago now. Didn't realize that they function like a bank from 10 years ago and can't give you business debit cards on the spot like PNC does. They told me 7-10 business days to get it. They sent out the cards from corporate on Nov. 27th. Today is now December 10th, and still no cards. I got bank statements for both accounts already and a pin number for one of the cards, but no debit cards. So it has been almost 2 full weeks now, and still no cards. I am LITERALLY 1 hour away from Merrillville, so how could they have not gotten here by now? I called my branch and corporate, and what is their solution? Do you want us to send out a new card? So how long will that take? Of course, 7-10 MORE business days if it even shows up at all. Super pissed off as not having the cards is holding me up from starting my business since there are things I need to pay for that I need the debit card for. Maybe they should start printing the cards at the branches like almost all banks do now, or at the very least, stop mailing them by first class mail which sucks, and switch to priority mail so customers can get them in 3 days. So mad I didn't just go to PNC like I was going to! read more

DO NOT BANK HERE!!! Three Strikes for me, Centier's out. This is the main corporate branch & definitely the Yelp review of this bank you all will see the most frequently. I have had issues with this bank since I was forced to open it at the badly built Highland Branch (No drive thru, no outdoor ATM, never went back to that location after opening it) due to it being a previous employer's bank (Also was Screwed over by that job paywise, go figure). At the beginning of the pandemic (Late February-March 2020), I became unemployed. I watched my money carefully. At $20 left in my account I was charged my first overdraft fee which caused my ABOVE $0 minimal purchases to cost $35 a pop. That being said, I disputed it & A YEAR AND A HALF LATER, fees were refunded finally. Fast forward a couple months to Strike 2 in November 2021, Centier DELETED deposits in my account that were cleared & THEN charged me overdraft fees. After calling them they explained it was a bank processing error & apologized to my surprise & refunded the fees. I gave them another shot. Big mistake & should have closed my account then. December 2021, I had 2 charges hit my account that should not have. Told Centier that it would cause an overdraft & I wired money to my account instantly that would cover it until the mistaken charges refunded back (They have), but Centier charged me overdraft fees anyway & are actually USING THEIR MISTAKES AGAINST ME & WILL NOT REFUND $105 IN FEES. My money to cover the charges would have left quite a chunk of money leftover BUT it is held up due to fees thanks to my real charges processing out of order of occurrence (another issue but not even a problem compared to the asinine fees). I Can't make any headway & sadly my branch ladies at Hammond, Highland down the street by Round The Clock (again, the locale of the 2 & one being totally usable is beyond me), & Griffith where I closed my account were the only saving grace for this, I even had to make a small deposit to zero balance my account since they won't waive the fees & were jerks about it just to close my account. This bank one day better send me a $105 check to be deposited in my REAL CUSTOMER FRIENDLY ACCOUNT. They are thieves in a corporate poorly run, not customer focused operation. "Small bank" my rear end, have you seen their mega office that I'm reviewing? I Definitely moved on to a better bank & cannot say enough how horrible this bank is to it's customers on the phone with their "policies" such as the branch of account (Highland) can make the choices, not the people I see every time I go in the bank, no matter where it was opened. I can go to any of my other bank's branches & do what Centier cannot. Not worth anyone's time, hassle, or money. Want a real small local bank? Try Hegewisch. This one is too big for it's britches & does not care for the little guys. read more

I prefer, often, to use small business. Especially after the megabank meltdown of 2009 I wanted to support a small local bank that had managed to stay above the fray so we decided to use this as our primary bank. One of the first things I learned AFTER opening the account is that I had to deposit checks in person....not into an ATM. When competitors not only allow you to deposit via atm but also using your own phone, that's just nuts. That might have changed by now as I've not deposited money into the account since July, 2013. I agree the with the other review that their online banking system is just so far behind the times. The fact is that Centier does NOT run the online portion itself. It is a 3rd party business. It leads to all sorts of odd situations and a serious lack of functionality. It would make more sense for them to outright purchase a system and run it in-house themselves. I do have to agree that the actual people working at the branches are fantastic and know their stuff. Since I was always going in to deposit checks, I got to know people at "my" branch. Everyone was always friendly and awesome. But I've gone back to the megabank where I can deposit money via ATM nationwide and much more functional online banking. read more

I've only banked with "BIG BANK" my entire life, i.e. Chase, BofA, CharterOne, LaSalle, etc. I've grown tired of the fees and decided to cut the cord. Centier Bank gets customer service right and understands that its YOUR money. It's a nice feeling. Smaller banks pay attention and to me, that's much more important! read more

All the people are friendly, but it seems like they hadn't set up a business account before...then the ATM failed to make my deposit and it took about 2 weeks and 3-4 calls (waste of time) to straighten out...then I found out I cannot take a pic of the check to deposit it, and with a business account cannot use an app to view my account on my phone...however this is available for a non-business account. I DID read all the details, before opening the free account, but I thought we were in 2015 and some things were a given. Every piece you want to use online is an extra and requires and additional set-up...but they don't inform you of this at the start, so its always a surprise...extra set-up to use the online, extra set-up to use the bill pay...if I am even allowed. Just highly disappointed in this local bank. I wanted to support local business. Ugh. read more

I take pride in supporting and banking with a locally (family) owned business as opposed to a chain. It follows that I presumed Centier would be a great place to help me in my small business needs. I have always had a pleasant experience with my personal banking, until the last two weeks. The truth is, Centier is utterly unprepared for helping incubate small business in NW Indiana. The red tape and endless inquisition about obvious things (money in accounts, job descriptions, requiring documents that are not required by state law - needless regulation, understanding how people can work in an industry for a variety of purposes - can't a janitor work for a bank), requirements of things not needed by most other banks, and just the inconvenience of doing business there is really shocking to me. I will continue to do my private banking there because it has been great to us for those purposes, but I will no longer waste my time trying to do any business financing or banking there. My advice, for what it's worth, clean up your mortgage process and streamline your account (KYC/AML) procedures. read more

Enclosed is a copy of the envelope I received from Nicole Remedi at your Merrillville office. I immediately returned the letter to your location. I do not have a copy of the actual letter. When I attempted to retrieve it from my computer. It failed to scan. There are so many scams requesting money for some dead person or a poor person needing money to graduate. There is always a sob story. I do not want to think what other personal and/or financial information she gathered about me. I want punitive action taken to prevent this person from doing it again to me or anyone else. As you can see by the date of my original complaint. Don't get their Overdraft Protection. It doesn't work, they also can "make changes to your account without letting you know." Also, if you have direct deposit and say you are supposed to be paid Friday, you'll get paid...on Saturday..or Monday..or Tuesday. Basically you have no clue when it'll get deposited into your account. Their mobile app is out of date as well, which makes things more difficult. read more

I went through the Portage Willowcreek drive thru today and experienced the worse customer service. My ID, has my maiden name listed and instead of asking for my debit card, she insisted I wasn't on my own account. I was not told I needed to provide my debit card until I went in. I was never apologized to for the inconvenience, but yet they acted as if it was my fault. I will look else where for my personal banking, as well as a different referral for the temp workers we send to open accounts there. I myself work with the public, as an account manager/recruiter and I know this is unacceptable and rude. I was in a rush, because I had to get back to work, but I will contact the cooperate office. read more

This is the first review I have ever done on any business before. But I feel that I must because I do not want other people to be out an appraisal fee and not ending up with getting there refinance to go through. Centier has stricter qualifications for which I did not know at the time of application. I have banked with Centier for many years and I felt confident that my refinance would go through. I am very disappointed in this bank and feel that they do not do enough or have the knowledge or maybe do not bother with refinance customers in working with them. I just wanted to get the word out for customer to go to a mortgage company or another bank first. read more

We went to Centier to refinance our home. We have excellent credit so they offered us a great rate. But, the overall experience was terrible. My two biggest complaints is that 1). I normally do not escrow. They charge a fee to not escrow. So rather then pay them extra money, I went along with the escrow. 2). I didn't find out until after they had my upfront $525 that they require 65% loan to value (most banks require 80%). The problem with this is that it seriously limits the amount of loan we could get (esp. since home appraisals are on the low end due to the housing market). I was told by the loan officer we could either get a loan within the 65% and bring a huge amount of money to closing or, roll the cost into the loan and pay a whopper size fee for going over the 65%. That was a deal breaker. In conclusion, their fees are too many and too high, their upfront communication can use some improvement, and I feel like I was robbed of $525. read more
