been a patient for 10 years needed some paperwork filled out. tried to get an appointment and nothing for a month. went to office to ask doctor to fill out my paperwork(would take 10 mins). they wanted $150 to fill out paperwork. office staff got very nasty and started yelling at me. i did nothing but sit there and tried to plead my case for a 10 min visit. she threatened to call the police on me. i have never been involved with the police in any way. I'm generally a pretty easy going person. but this lady who works the desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. don't recommend. when you need some support, you would think you could get it from your psychiatrist. not at this place. read more

Please avoid this place. My aging father is seeing a counselor there who prescribed him two antidepressants and a sleeping pill at the same time. When I went to the pharmacy to pick them up the pharmacist told me there were many dangerous interactions between those medications. I have been trying to get a phone call back from his counselor there for going on a week, no one answers their phones so you have to leave a message and hope they call back. read more

Things to be aware of: -They are chronically without a receptionist, so they will never answer your calls. If having reliable contact with your provider is important to you, do not chose this office. -They have too many patients for the amount of office staff. Paperwork, insurance issues, pre-authorization etc take longer than normal. If you take life saving medications I would advise going elsewhere as their frequent mistakes may cause you to have to go without your medications. If you do choose to go here, make sure your primary care doctor is aware of your current medications in case you need an emergency refill. Otherwise you may have to go to the ER to prevent withdrawal from your medications. -The office manager Kimberly and the revolving door of office staff are stressed and uninformed about common mental healthcare practices. They will lie to you if they do not know the answer to an issue. Kimberly in particular is very short tempered. If you call her out on her mistakes she will quickly resort to raising her voice and hanging up the phone on you. -They do not have a website. The only way to contact them is to leave a voicemail or email. However due to lack of staff, their voicemail box is frequently full. There is no way to email or contact your provider directly. All emails and voicemails are answered by the staff. The messages are relayed to the providers inconsistently. Most of the time I had to wait till my actual appointment to get any questions answered. I had a decent experience with my provider but was unable to contact her in a time of emergency. I would not recommend this place. read more

Don't walk, RUN, away from this practice. They will not listen when you try to advocate for your child and will leave you high and dry when it comes to medication refills. DO NOT RECOMMEND! The practitioner we had, Nelly Kangethe, never sent a lab order to Labcorp and we sat there, waiting our turn, for 3.5 hours, just to be informed that no order was received. Then, the provider tried to say that she wanted to test certain things at another time. I insisted that the order be written for all bloodwork needed and it was a good thing I did because my daughter's ferratin and folate levels came back low. All these docs want to do is throw pills at you instead of trying to discover the real issue! Now my daughter needs iron infusions, NOT WELLBUTRIN. Do your research carefully before entertaining the idea of using this practice for your healthcare needs. When I informed the practitioner that I was going to be finding a new medication manager for my child, she said she would send over a script for 90 days to carry us while I try to find a new provider. That was on 2/26. Today is 3/4 and Nelly has done nothing of the sort. I have also called the practice and left a message (3/1/24) and have not received a callback. Her license should be revoked and I will be reporting her and this practice to my insurance company. read more

I show up for my appointments on time yet I wait an hour to get seen. I tried to reach one of the PA's over the weekend for an emergency, left a VM and never heard back. I'm also being charged for a co-pay that I shouldn't be asked to pay based on my plan description yet they ask me for $65 every visit. Even if it's just for a refill. The therapist is also a little loopy. He spent 20 mins talking about how much he loves to bike. After I mentioned several times that I don't enjoy biking outside, he persists to use our time to research trails on his phone. read more

I am so angry at the staff of Centered Counseling Services, in Towson, that I'm finding it difficult to organize and express my thoughts. My wife is suffering from severe major depression. This means irrational fears, insomnia, not eating or hydrating enough, feelings of uselessness and hopelessness, hesitant speech and social isolation; she doesn't even want to talk to her kids. She was referred to Centered Counseling Services by her Primary Physician. But in order to get an in-person session, the appointment wasn't available for over a month. This is a big day as I was hoping to get her on the right medication. We presented today at the date, time and location of the appointment and were advised by the young man in white t-shirt behind the receptionist desk that the appointment had been canceled because my wife didn't verify and confirm the appointment. Mind you there was no instruction to us that this had to be done when the appointment was scheduled and, because my wife is avoiding all social contact, she is not using her phone and has the sound turned off for calls and notifications and isn't capable of checking emails or responding to texts. She is ill. The young man said we would have to reschedule our appointment and I told him that was impossible and I wanted my wife to see someone if only for 5 minutes and we were prepared to wait. He checked with his supervisor and was told that we didn't follow office protocol and that was that and we would have to leave. I was furious at this callous disregard for her and expressed it. There was no offer of waiting to see if a few minutes opened up this afternoon, no offer of a zoom-type meeting later today, not even a return phone call! Due to the dismissive, uncaring and even smug attitude of the staff I interacted with there today I would never entrust the care of my wife to anyone associated with (self) Centered Counseling Services. read more

Brian used to be helpful. Ever since he got his new practice he has become worse and worse. He is literally never on time. I usually wait at least 30 min for my appointment even though I'm on time. I have two insurances but i am still charged a copay. The office i used to see Brian at last year had no copay. Why do i have one now to see the same person? Nothing makes sense. One time i needed to talk to Brian because my medicine made me very sick. Even though i could hear him in the background, he refused to talk to me. Edit: the office manager hung up on me when i tried to ask a question about billing. I tried to call back once and she didn't answer. What kind of business is this? My daughter had an adverse reaction to a new medication and when she attempted to call the nurse practitioner she was working with she was told that she had left for the day (Thursday) and wouldn't be back until Monday. My daughter went off the medication because the reactions she was having were severe and what happened afterward was a nightmare. In order to advocate on her behalf I called and was told that they are a private practice who contract with various nurse practitioners. I was then told they would "leave a note" on her desk. I asked if anyone could assist in her provider's absence because it was dangerous for her not to be on medication and was told no. How can any mental health provider, especially one involved in medication management, not get back to their patients about medication within 24 hours? The person answering the phone also told me that everyone deserves a day off and because of COVID everyone's schedules are really full. Complete irresponsibility on Centered Counseling's part. Avoid this place like the plaque especially if your medication is being worked out. read more

I've been seeing mark for about 4 years and he really helps a lot and cares about his patients. I just started seeing rob and he really works with me and helps manage my medication very well. I don't know what the person who left the bad review was talking about, because the staff here and the providers are really great. read more

i've been a patient of Dr. Rob for 3 years and would never trust anyone else to prescribe psych meds for me. He really cares about his patients and knows his stuff. Has me feeling good after so many terrible psychiatrists over the years made me a mess. All psych docs are not created equal! Front office staff are friendly and efficient. Will get you in for an appointment pretty fast as well. It's a busy practice and sometimes the waiting room can get packed but it is worth the wait time, which is typically nothing compared to what my other docs put me through anyway (I see several other specialists who keep me waiting for hours!). There are some fees for missed appointments and prescription call-ins so be sure to read new patient paperwork so your not surprised. Highly recommend this practice if your looking for help with your mental health! read more

There are truly no words to describe the degree of frustration and anger I have at this moment. When you open the website it welcomes you with the advertisement pinned by words of "nourish and compassion". It is everything but that. The practitioner I have is amazing; however, its the first impression of a phone call by the front desk that sets the tone: disrespect, insensitive and down straight rude. First instance, I was told by Katie the nurse practitioner that my prescription (due to it being a control substance it had to be hand written) it would be at the front desk for pickup. I just got out of a 15 hr night shift at the hospital: drove 30 mins to get there only to be "greeted" by " we don't have it". NO apologies for the inconvenience what so ever; rather; just have a seat ( as if I was waiting in line for deli meat at the market with a ticket number). I requested that they perhaps call her and ask another practitioner to write the prescription as Im just exhausted and did not have the time to wait and drive after another 15 hr shift. Of course, Katie confirmed and stated she forgot. Things happen, I understand, however, an apology goes a long way. Second experience: I had called in attempting to explain that I only have 5 days left for the SSRI Katie had prescribed. Per our last conversation, she said to give her a ring and she would call in knowing how busy my schedule is ( I am a resident physician: literally have off no more than twice a month if lucky). I didn't even get to complete my conversation with Megan, that I understand I have to come in person; however for now as I cannot fit in an appointment for another month; I need a refill on my SSRI as it is extremely dangerous to abruptly discontinue off of it. Her response "I suggest if it's that urgent to go to the ED". I replied: I work in the ED, we do not refill psy meds: as they would not admit me unless I had suicidal ideation. She replied "Im going to hang up the phone now". I asked twice in a calm voice (even though I was in disbelief how insensitive and extremely and inhumanely rude this person was), what is your name? She just hung up! I called back requesting to speak with a manager and expressed my frustration how unacceptable this is that you hang up on people, especially because I was calm ( no curse words no menacing words). The next person, although she listened (after putting me on hold for a good 7 mins, with still no apologies) and found a solution, did not once apologized for how I felt and said "we will have to charge you $20.00 for calling in a prescription". She gave me the name of the person, MEGAN. I don't know how someone like her is working at such a place where people seek help: full of vulnerability. I am only to continue coming to this place because I really like my nurse practitioner Katie. But, this place based on lack of customer service, treating patients like a number at a DMV or check out point at the airport: should be re-constructed replacing employees that obviously only cares about getting a paycheck with people who actually enjoys their job and cares about people. read more

I kindly gave two stars because this provider has been decent and nice in the past. I probably should have just given this office one star because of what happened Monday. They screamed at me about how I owed them money for "no shows". When I did see this provider, he should have realized that I had just been subjected to an unfair (very loud) accusation and was quite shaken up. I wasn't allowed to speak but was screamed at over top of what I was trying to say. I am sorry that I matched that girl at the front desk in volume when I tried to state the truth. I should have turned the other cheek and been much calmer. However, these "no shows" that the office staff claimed, never happened. What happened at this office were their mistakes. Not only did the girl at the front desk not handle it professionally, she argued and screamed every time I tried to speak so that she could cut me off. The young man beside her did not yell so he was not part of the yelling argument. He did back her up. The problem at this office is that - if you have to change the date of your appointment, they do not take the original date off of their books. They have done this a couple of times. One time I caught them because I had to call back in right away and change the date again. I found out they had left the first date on the books and had also added the second date. I informed them that they should have taken the first date off of their books. They didn't seem to realize this. They gave me two appointments apparently back in Jan 2019 for Feb 2019. They leave the date on their books even if you reschedule. In Jan 2019 I rescheduled right away while still standing in the office . I realized I had a conflict in time. I didn't even go home and call in. I was standing right there and told them I couldn't come on that date. So I set a new appointment time while still in the office. Now I find out that they never took the incorrect appointment date off of their books. I had no idea that they would make such a glaring error. The first I heard about this "no show", as they call it, was Jan 4 2021 - two years later. They claim I had two appointments set up at one time and missed one. That doesn't even make any sense. No one would set up two appointments at one time when they don't see that provider that often. I clearly said I couldn't do the first date. What ever happened to common sense? Another "no show" was when their system did not make the internet call I was waiting for from the doctor. I didn't receive anything on computer, so there was no way to answer. I called the office but got reamed out by that girl at the front desk that day. I didn't know what was going on. What was I supposed to do? They claim now that I never answered the doctor back - when I didn't get anything from the provider. He said later that their system wasn't working. I called back again even though the girl at front desks screamed at me already. Somehow I did speak to the provider. In the past this provider was fine. However, on Monday when the attack from that girl happened, he just stated over and over that what happened at the front desk had nothing to do with him. Not a good response when your patient is shaking and quite upset. Also, what does he "heard me" mean? If he heard me and I don't usually come in upset, why didn't he realize I was very distraught from this situation where I was being accused? Also, the office manager was hard to get . First she was in a "meeting". I was told to call back in in two hours so I did. Then I was told that she had left for the day. I let them know I would carry this higher and was specific. I hung up thinking that I didn't know when I would be able to get this nightmare to end. This office manager called me back in three minutes. They don't seem to realize that there is a bigger principle than the extra payment involved. Who likes to have things that are not true screamed at them? I never had any "no shows" and will not say that I did! read more

I have never had any difficulty with the Centered Counseling Services. Brian Anderson is a CRNP and he owns the business. There is a second CRNP Rob Bowen who is excellent. Both of these practitioners take their time with you and always ask if there are any changes, how the medications are working and if patients are having any difficulties regarding the medication or in general. There is a licensed social worker for psychotherapy but I, personally, do not feel that he is proactive enough. He listens but does not give proper feedback in that he does not recommend different ways of handling a given situation or attempting to change. As far as wait time, I have been seen on time. I have only had to wait longer once due to the practitioner being late due to traffic. They all usually work M-TH and have F off. So, make sure to get your follow up appointments for 30 days while you are still at the office. Then you will have no trouble getting an appointment and keeping the time that you want. With one practitioner out for a short time, there may be some wait time but he is trying his very best to see the patients, spend the time needed, and move on to the next patient while documenting in between. PS: The Center takes a variety of insurances but call and make sure that they taken yours before coming for your first visit. I have never called over a weekend for an emergency but common sense says that if you are having an emergency and cannot get in touch with your practitioner, call 911 and their are FREE hotlines for other emergencies. read more

I have an unusual insurance set up (2 insurances that have to be billed in order) and have had no problems. I am waiting a little longer since the practice has picked up more patients. I've not waited longer than 30 minutes though. Brian was the first mental health practitioner that works *with* me regarding my medication. My previous psychiatrist just pushed me to take medication and wouldn't hear me when I said the side affects were impacting my ability to function (just doing basic self care and daily living things was impaired). Brian worked with me to find a medication that works. I recently stumbled into a rough patch and told him my warning signs and we quickly changed my medication and it helped prevent a depressive episode. read more

I had the worst experience at this place today. The receptionist (Kimberly) was extremely rude and threatened to call the "cops" on me for asking why we hadn't been seen for our appointment. I am almost led to believe that it was racially motivated as well, especially since we were the only people of color in the office. What started off as me asking (for a second time), why we had a 2:30PM appointment and it was almost after 3:00PM (and several people who came long after we did had been seen) and hadn't been seen was baffling. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, Kimberly became combative, extremely rude, said she was calling the cops (I told her I would call for her and what was she going to say when they arrived?, that I wanted to know why we were waiting so long for our appointment?). In addition, if this is a counseling center, I saw the same counselor see at least 8-10 people in under an hour? (very suspicious) Of course, we left.
