A sprawling well-run medical complex in Trenton bringing together many of the testing, outpatient…read moreand specialty practices working under the Capital Health integrated marketing umbrella. If you need same day help with your cardiovascular system, cataracts and/or compulsive eating disorder this is where you come in a very modern, non-hospital setting. Since my Primary Care doctor is affiliated with Capital Health this is where she invariably sends me for an oil change and transmission work which is always performed in an efficient and professional manner although the sheer size and one stop shopping aspect of the facility is almost too modern and bloodless for my lingering notions of medical nostalgia. However, these types of integrated, large scale operations are the present and future of CFO driven medicine and are known by many different conglomerated names around the country and as a consequence, they do have significant drawbacks. First and foremost, they are creatures of convenience and may not be the most cost-effective option whatever your insurance. Call your insurance carrier and see if there are other more cost-effective providers in the areas, and don't fall for the "we don't know what it's going to cost until we submit the bill." They know, because they can submit it on a test basis beforehand... meaning you could save hundreds in out of pocket costs if their clerical staff bothered to break a sweat. Second, even if the facility is approved by your insurance, not all employees are. Sure the ultrasound may be covered but the technician or physician who performs or reads it may not be, perhaps resulting in separate bills from individuals you never heard of. Ask questions upfront and insist that out of network employees be excluded. It's a pain in the ass but you could easily vacation on the savings. Take it from someone who has been burned, the onus is always on you to clear these issues up beforehand as medical pricing and affiliations continue to be beyond opaque. But back to this facility, it's generally first-rate so my complaints are minimal. Just do your homework, no matter where you live. Your blood pressure will thank you in the morning.

The online portal helps get messages through, though. The doctors and nurses are great and I've been an established patient there so I continue to go, but almost every visit I question why I keep going. ** the OB is just as hard to contact and front desk is equally unfriendly but the midwives are TOP NOTCH and nurses are great as well.
