Decent Gas, But Better For Stocking Up Cooler Ice…read more SITREP This is one of the three (3) gas stops I'll make in St. Maries. [There are 2 other nearby gas stations but their more prices for gas just don't make it worthwhile.] THE SETUP This is the first gas station choice as we come from my uncle's homestead and cross the St. Joe River into St. Maries. Though it's not the best gas price, they have a great ice stock we fully utilized in the coolers back at the homestead. In addition, they have a huge dumpster, so if we had not had an opportunity to visit the dump (since it is the opposite direction), this makes is hella convenient to unload the 2 or 3 bags of trash we have in the back of the pickup that we can unload immediately, without having it bang around in the back of the truck (or taking up space) while running other hardware errands town. THE LOWDOWN A great little service station with extra amenities to make our lives homesteading a bit easier. ;)

Beef Jerky And A Handy Dumpster For That Extra Load…read more STIREP Sitting on the outskirts of downtown St. Maries, the St. Joe Oil Co. is nice quick stop before we head back to the Fountain Bay Homestead. THE SETUP St. Joe Oil has the more reasonably gas prices than it's downtown counterparts and so this makes for a more desirable fill-up. The prices are nowhere near as inexpensive as we found in Montana just the day before. Further, this is really a no-frills sort of stop with a bare-bones mini-mart. They do have a band of beef jerky I like, so I do grab that from time to time. DUMPSTER St. Maries has no trash collection to speak of at the outlying residences, which is where Fountain Bay happens to be along the St. Joe River. We have to actually go to the community dumping ground. But when we are "collecting" garbage in our plastic bag in the truck from our stops at various restaurants, stores, coffee shops, etc., it's nice that we don't have to take this back home, wait for a sufficient size load before we take all of that to the dump. St Joe Oil has a great dumpster on it's premises and while we fill up, it makes for a convenient dumping of the kitchen-size bag that we've collected over a few days. THE LOWDOWN Props to St. Joe Oil Co. for having relatively inexpensive gas and other covenient amenities.

Nice Little Gas Station By The Cemetery Where My Uncles & Grandmother Are Buried…read more SITREP Most of the time when I visit the resting spots of my mother's family, I like to pop in here for gas (best priced downtown St. Maries gas station) and to get ice for my sports cup while spending an hour wandering around the cemetery. And perhaps some gum. Other than than, it's a basic stalward gas station for the community. THE LOWDOWN It's convenient and it's a no frills stop for gas.
